CNN’s Jake Tapper presses Biden’s national security adviser on ‘priority’ of American hostages held by Hamas

Latest & Breaking News on Fox News

CNN’s Jake Tapper questioned President Biden’s national security adviser on Sunday about whether hostages taken by Hamas were a “priority” for the Biden administration.

“Is rescuing the hostages a priority at all? Israeli news media like Haaretz, they say it doesn’t seem like it at all,” Tapper asked. “And frankly, Jake, if my kids were being held hostage in Gaza, and as you know, there are Americans being held hostage in Gaza right now, I’d want you to send in the Navy SEALs. What’s the conversation like in the White House about the U.S. conducting any sort of operations in order to save Americans being held hostage in Gaza?”

Sullivan responded and said Biden’s been clear about wanting to get Americans back to the U.S. safely.

“The Israelis are bombing the crap out of Gaza, I mean, it doesn’t seem like saving the hostages are a priority at all right now,” Tapper said.

WHITE HOUSE SAYS ’20 OR MORE’ AMERICANS ARE MISSING IN ISRAEL AMID HAMAS ATTACKS

“Well, for President Biden, they are a priority. They’re the highest possible priority. And he has sent hostage experts to coordinate and consult with the Israeli government on hostage recovery efforts. He’s also made sure that our diplomats are in touch with third countries in the region to explore avenues for their safe release. I have to be cautious about how much I can say about certain efforts he’s undertaking, because we want to protect those efforts to give us the best possible chance of getting our people home,” Sullivan responded.

He added that the administration does not at this point have the location of the Americans taken hostage by Hamas.

“So we have to continue to refine our understanding of where they are, and who they are. Because we know there are 15 unaccounted for Americans, but we cannot confirm the precise number of American hostages being held by Hamas at this time,” he continued.

Sullivan said all they can do is continue to work with Israel on hostage recovery and said they have not discussed the idea of a possible prisoner swap with Hamas.

ISRAEL-HAMAS WAR: US SPECIAL OPERATIONS PERSONNEL ON THE GROUND AS AUSTIN PLEDGES INTEL ASSISTANCE

“I will say that President Biden has shown over the course of the past few years, that he will make hard decisions to get American hostages home. In this case, our focus is on working through those third country channels and I’ll leave it at that for now,” he said.

White House National Security spokesperson John Kirby was also asked about American hostages on Sunday.

“We are actively trying to find out where they are,” Kirby told Fox News’ Shannon Bream. “We don’t even know how many exactly. A small handful we know, but there could be more than we know. They could be in different groups. They could be moved around. I think you can understand. I hope everybody can understand – we’re gonna be careful about what we say publicly about our efforts to get those hostages home.”

Colorado's I-25 is partially closed after a coal train derailed off a bridge and killed a semi-truck driver, authorities say

CNN
 —

A portion of Colorado’s Interstate 25 has been shut down in both directions after a coal train derailed off a bridge and onto the roadway Sunday afternoon, killing a semi-truck driver, state authorities said.

Crews are working to clear toppled train cars and spilled coal at the the derailment site near the city of Pueblo, which lies about 45 miles south of Colorado Springs, the Colorado State Patrol said.

The train operator, BNSF Railway, said its personnel are assisting in the cleanup.

Images of the scene posted online by the state patrol show at least ten train cars had slid off the tracks and over the side of a bridge and nearby embankment, blanketing the ground with coal. The bridge, which extends over both lanes of the interstate, appears to be partially collapsed with a semi truck crushed underneath it.

The male driver of the truck was killed, state patrol spokesperson Gary Cutler told CNN. No other details on the victim were provided. There were no reported injuries among BNSF crew members, the rail company said.

The interstate closure extends approximately 12 miles beginning at Exit 100B in Pueblo and extending northward to Exit 110, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. Both northbound and southbound lanes are closed.

“This will be an extended closure. Drivers heading between Pueblo and Colorado Springs must detour,” the transportation department said in a closure notice.

The National Transportation Safety Board announced it is investigating the incident.

Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg said he has communicated with Colorado Governor Jared Polis about the incident and has been briefed by the Federal Railroad and Federal Highway Administrations. US Department of Transportation staff were headed to the scene Sunday night, he said.

“State & local authorities are leading the immediate emergency response, and we will be ready to help in any way needed to support a swift return to normal use for the highway and rail routes affected,” Buttigieg said.

Israel accuses Iran of ordering Hezbollah attacks along northern border with Lebanon

Latest & Breaking News on Fox News

Israel’s military is accusing Iran Monday of orchestrating attacks by the militant group Hezbollah along the Lebanon-Israel border over the weekend.

“Hezbollah carried out a number of shooting attacks yesterday in order to try and divert our operational efforts from the south, this under the direction and backing of Iran while putting the state of Lebanon and its citizens at risk,” Israel Defense Forces spokesman Rear. Adm. Daniel Hagari wrote on X.

“The IDF is strongly deployed and organized in the north,” he added. “We have increased our strength and we react offensively to any activity against us in a determined way.”

The statements come as the IDF and Israel’s Ministry of Defense announced a plan Monday to evacuate residents located near the Lebanese border to state-funded guesthouses.

LIVE UPDATES: ISRAEL AT WAR WITH HAMAS

“The National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) of the Ministry of Defense and the IDF are announcing the implementation of a plan to evacuate residents of northern Israel who live in the area up to 2 kilometers from the Lebanese border to state-funded guesthouses,” a joint statement from the agencies read.

As skirmishes broke out between Israeli forces and Hezbollah militants along Israel’s northern border on Sunday, a United Nations mission said a rocket struck its headquarters in southern Lebanon.

ROCKET STRIKES UN PEACEKEEPERS’ HQ IN SOUTHERN LEBANON AS FIGHTING ESCALATES AT ISRAEL’S NORTHERN BORDER

Hezbollah spokesperson Rana Sahili told the Associated Press that the fighting was “only skirmishes” and just a “warning.”

National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on Sunday also warned that Hezbollah militants pose a “real risk of escalation” at Israel’s northern border.

Sullivan, making the rounds on several Sunday TV news shows, also noted Iran’s possible involvement, as the regime has long bolstered the Hezbollah terror group in Lebanon.

“We are concerned. We see a real risk of escalation on the northern border,” he told ABC’s “This Week.” “And that is why President Biden has been so clear and forceful in saying that no state and no group should seek to exploit this situation to their advantage or should escalate the conflict.”

Fox News’ Landon Mion, Stephen Sorace and Danielle Wallace contributed to this report.

Landlord charged with hate crimes after fatally stabbing a 6-year-old and wounding his mom because they were Muslim, authorities say

CNN
 —

A Chicago-area landlord was arrested and charged with murder and hate crimes after authorities said he stabbed and killed a 6-year-old boy and seriously wounded his mother, allegedly because the tenants are Muslim.

Joseph M. Czuba, 71, was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, two counts of a hate crime and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, the Will County, Illinois, Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. The US Justice Department has also opened a federal hate crime investigation into the attack, US Attorney General Merrick Garland announced Sunday.

The sheriff’s office said Czuba did not make a statement to detectives but investigators determined the victims were “targeted by the suspect due to them being Muslim and the on-going Middle Eastern conflict involving Hamas and the Israelis.”

The family is Palestinian and “came to America seeking what we all seek—a refuge to live, learn, and pray in peace,” according to the White House.

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden said they were “shocked and sickened” over the attack and offered their condolences to the family in a statement released by the White House Sunday.

Authorities were called to the residence in unincorporated Plainfield Township, roughly 40 miles southwest of Chicago, shortly before noon Saturday after a woman called 911 saying her landlord had attacked her, according to the sheriff’s office.

When deputies arrived, they found Czuba sitting on the ground, near the home’s driveway, the release said. The two victims were found in a bedroom, each with “multiple stab wounds,” and were taken to the hospital, according to the release.

The boy was stabbed 26 times and succumbed to his injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

The 32-year-old woman, who had more than a dozen stab wounds, is recovering at the hospital and is expected to survive, the office said.

Joseph Czuba was charged with murder and hate crimes, authorities said.

The Chicago office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) identified the victims in a news release as Hanaan Shahin, and her son, Wadea Al-Fayoume.

The Bidens said the “horrific act of hate has no place in America, and stands against our fundamental values: freedom from fear for how we pray, what we believe, and who we are.”

“As Americans, we must come together and reject Islamophobia and all forms of bigotry and hatred,” the statement from the White House read. “I have said repeatedly that I will not be silent in the face of hate. We must be unequivocal. There is no place in America for hate against anyone.”

The family had lived on the house’s ground floor for two years without “previous notable issues” with Czuba, CAIR said.

But in texts to the boy’s father from the hospital after the attack, Shahin said the landlord “knocked on their door, and when she opened, he tried to choke her and proceeded to attack her with a knife, yelling, ‘you Muslims must die,’” according to the CAIR statement.

The attorney general said the Justice Department “will use every legal authority at our disposal to bring to justice those who perpetrate illegal acts of hate.”

“This incident cannot help but further raise the fears of Muslim, Arab, and Palestinian communities in our country with regard to hate-fueled violence,” Garland said. “The Department of Justice is focused on protecting the safety and the civil rights of every person in this country.”

After Wadea’s killing, the Illinois State Police urged vigilance Sunday but assured residents that, “At this time, there is no actionable intelligence regarding any credible mass threats in Illinois.”

On Saturday, Israel’s military said its forces are readying for the next stages of the war in response to the unprecedented October 7 attacks by the Islamist militant group Hamas, which controls Gaza. At least 1,400 people were killed during Hamas’ rampage, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) told CNN on Sunday.

In response, Israel has pounded Gaza with airstrikes that have killed more than 2,600 people, according to the Palestinian health ministry. And conditions there have deteriorated into a “complete catastrophe,” aid workers say, as tens of thousands of Palestinians try to flee south.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said in a statement, “To take a six year old child’s life in the name of bigotry is nothing short of evil.”

“Every single Illinoisan – including our Muslim, Jewish and Palestinian neighbors – deserves to live free from the threat of such evil,” the governor said. “Today, MK and I join our Muslim and Palestinian brothers and sisters in mourning this tragic loss and praying for the recovery of Wadea’s mother.”

“May Wadea Al-Fayoume’s memory be a blessing.”

Wadea had celebrated his birthday shortly before his death, Ahmed Rehab, CAIR-Chicago’s executive director, said in a news conference Sunday.

“He was a 6-year-old boy, he loved everything,” Rehab said of the child, recalling how Wadea’s father had described him.

“He loved everybody, he loved his toys, he loved anything with a ball, basketball, soccer, he loved to color, he loved to swing around, he loved his parents, he loved his family and his friends, he loved life and he was looking forward to a long, healthy, prosperous life,” he added during the news conference.

“He has no clue about these larger issues happening in the world but he was made to pay for it,” Rehab added.

Wadea’s mother and father had moved to the United States 12 and nine years ago, respectively, and their son was born here, Rehab added. They were from a village in the West Bank, he said.

In a statement on X, formerly Twitter, CAIR National wrote they were “shocked and disturbed” to hear of the boy’s death, and said, “The Islamophobic rhetoric and anti-Palestinian racism being spread by politicians, media outlets, and social media platforms must stop.”

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry said it “strongly condemns the heinous act of racism and hatred that led to the death of a 6-year-old Palestinian child and the serious injury of his mother.”

“The ministry also condemns the incitement campaigns, attacks, racist statements, and provocative positions that have been directed against Palestinian citizens and several Palestinian embassies and ambassadors in some countries,” it said in a statement, adding that it “calls on all nations to confront these actions and to hold their promoters and those behind them accountable.”

Czuba was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility and is awaiting his initial court appearance, according to the sheriff’s office. It is unclear if he has an attorney.

Rob Gronkowski reiterates that he is definitely retired: ‘I’m washed up’

Latest & Breaking News on Fox News

Rob Gronkowski is only five months older than Travis Kelce, but the former is in his second full year of retirement while the latter remains the best tight end in football for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Even in Gronk’s last season, which came in 2021, he had 802 receiving yards in 12 games played – that’s a full season’s pace of more than 1,100 yards. So, when he hung up the cleats, he definitely walked away with something in the tank.

Gronkowski retired after the 2018 season, but hardly anyone was surprised when he returned for 2020 to team back up with Tom Brady with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That year, Brady won his seventh Super Bowl, and Gronk won his fourth.

The 34-year-old retired again in 2021, but since he came back once, there have been rumors that teams have reached out to pay for his services post-second retirement. Considering Kelce’s dominance at the same age, Gronkowski would be more than serviceable.

But he doesn’t think so.

“I’m done. I’m washed up right now,” he told Fox News Digital in a recent interview. “I can’t go any more man.”

Gronk still hits the gym plenty, but admittedly only to “look like I can play every once in a while.”

“I’m frickin’ going through the car wash to get extra shiny these days …” he says. “I like to be in shape, though, still. I love to work out and get those endorphins going.”

“But no, I’m good. I put my 11 years in, my man. I put my 11 years in and had a great 11 years.”

It sure was a great 11 years, nine of which he spent with the New England Patriots. In his career, aside from the aforementioned four rings, he was a five-time Pro Bowler and was a four-time first-team All-Pro.

In 142 career regular-season games, he had 621 catches for 9,286 yards and 92 touchdowns.

His 17 scores in 2011 are still an all-time record for tight ends in a single season, and he led all tight ends in touchdowns four times.

Poles Vote in Huge Numbers for Centrist Opposition after 8 Years of Nationalist Rule

Europe – Voice of America

The majority of voters in Poland’s general election supported opposition parties who promised to repair the nation’s constitutional order and its relationship with allies, including the European Union and Ukraine, according to projections Monday.

After a bitter and emotional campaign, voters turned out in droves on Sunday to make their voice known. Turnout was at the highest level in the country’s 34 years of democracy, surpassing the 63% who turned out in the historic 1989 vote that toppled communism.

The final result was not expected for many hours. But a so-called late exit poll by Ipsos suggested that voters had finally grown tired of the ruling nationalist party, Law and Justice, after eight years of divisive policies that led to frequent street protests, bitter divisions even within families and billions of dollars in funding held up by the EU over rule of law violations.

The poll showed that three centrist opposition parties that campaigned on a promise to reverse the illiberal drift of the government had together secured around 248 seats in the 460-seat lower house of parliament, or Sejm — a clear majority.

“I am really overjoyed now,” Magdalena Chmieluk, a 43-year-old accountant, said on Monday morning. The opposition “will form a government and we will finally be able to live in a normal country, for real.”

Still, Poles on Monday were facing weeks of political uncertainty. Law and Justice won more votes than any single party and said it would try to keep governing.

“No matter how you look at it, we won,” Law and Justice campaign manager Joachim Brudzinski said Monday morning in an interview on the RMF FM radio broadcaster.

He said that his party would try to build a government led by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

President Andrzej Duda, an ally of Law and Justice, must call the first session of the new parliament within 30 days of the election and designate a prime minister to try to build a government. In the meantime, the current government will remain in a caretaker role.

The tradition in the democratic era has been for the president to first tap someone from the party with the most votes, but he is not required to do so.

It was not clear how Law and Justice could realistically hold onto power, unless it managed to win over some lawmakers from opposition parties, something it did in the past to maintain the thin parliamentary majority it held for eight years. But that seemed unlikely given the large number it would be required to change allegiances.

The Ipsos poll showed Law and Justice with 36.6% of the votes cast; the opposition Civic Coalition, led by former European Council President Donald Tusk, with 31%; the centrist Third Way coalition with 13.5%; the Left party with 8.6%; and the far-right Confederation with 6.4%.

The electoral commission said it expected to report the final result by early Tuesday.

Tusk on Sunday evening declared that it was the end of Law and Justice rule and that a new era had begun for Poland.

Some Polish media were more cautious on Monday, only reporting that the opposition could take power.

Cezary Tomczyk, vice-chairman of Tusk’s party, said the governing party would do everything to try to maintain power. He called on it to accept the election result, saying it was the will of the people to hand over power to the opposition.

“The nation spoke,” Tomczyk said.

[World] Poland election earthquake: What happens next?

BBC News world

Image caption,

A politician from Civic Coalition – one of the opposition parties with the numbers to form a majority – grins after the exit poll

A second exit poll in Poland has predicted the governing right-wing populist Law and Justice party won the most votes in Sunday’s election but will lose its majority in parliament.

If the official result, expected on Tuesday, confirms the second exit poll prediction – which has a 2% margin of error – it’s up to President Andrezj Duda, a former Law and Justice MP, to appoint a new prime minister to form a government.

Who gets first shot at forming a government?

It’s customary – and President Duda has said he would do this – for the president to choose the leader of the largest single party, in this case Law and Justice, to have the first shot at forming a government and securing a vote of confidence in parliament.

However, Law and Justice appears to have no clear route to forming a government with a majority, whilst a diverse opposition coalition of Civic Coalition, the Third Way and the Left does seem able to form a government with a majority.

According to the second exit poll, Law and Justice would win 198 seats, well short of the 231 needed for a majority. Its potential coalition partners are limited as even with the far-right Confederation party, they would muster only 212.

The opposition could count on 248 seats.

If President Duda lets Law and Justice have the first go and it fails, then parliament gets the second shot at forming a government, which if the result confirms the exit polls, would give a majority to the opposition coalition.

President Duda could also decline to ask Law and Justice to try to form a government given the parliamentary maths.

What if nothing is agreed?

If that second parliamentary attempt fails, then President Duda selects another candidate for PM, and if that fails, he can call fresh elections.

If all these stages pan out, Poland could be without a government into November and December – and/or heading towards fresh elections.

What do the opposition parties disagree on?

If the opposition coalition is appointed and confirmed in a vote of confidence, it will not have an easy time.

Firstly, it’s politically diverse, from the moderate conservatives of the Third Way to some hard-left MPs in the Left.

For example, both Civic Coalition and the Left support liberalisation of the rules on abortion. Civic Coalition and the Left campaigned to allow women to choose to terminate their pregnancies up to 12 weeks.

The Third Way takes a more conservative approach, saying it wants to overturn a 2020 court ruling outlawing abortion in cases of severe foetal defects – which effectively banned all legal pregnancy terminations – but would then put the issue of any further steps to a referendum.

The Left wants to significantly reduce the influence of the Catholic Church on state institutions, something that Third Way MPs may be uncomfortable with.

What obstacles could a coalition face?

The opposition block has pledged to restore the independence of the judiciary and the public media.

The European Commission and multiple international bodies say Law and Justice’s reforms have undermined judicial independence and media pluralism. Under Law and Justice, the state media has been transformed into party (Law and Justice) media.

But again, such change could face opposition from two important actors – President Duda, and Poland’s top court the Constitutional Tribunal, which is now controlled by judges who are sympathetic to Law and Justice.

Both have the power to veto an opposition government’s legislation.

An opposition coalition would not have the three-fifths majority in parliament required to overturn a presidential veto, so President Duda could make life difficult for them.

MLB, Team Israel pitcher saddened over Hamas attack reactions: ‘Not a good showing for humanity’

Latest & Breaking News on Fox News

The world woke up on Oct. 7 to the news that Hamas terrorists had entered Israel, indiscriminately killed civilians and took others hostage.

The footage of the atrocities could be seen on social media as Israel declared war on Hamas after the terrorist group invaded southern Israel and launched rockets from the Gaza Strip.

While most reacted in horror, declaring that Israel had the right to defend itself, there were some who attempted to justify or put blame on Israel for the unprecedented attack.

Zack Weiss, a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox and a member of the 2021 Team Israel Olympic team, spoke with Fox News Digital and expressed sadness over those attempting to provide a justification.

MLB GREAT STEVE GARVEY OFFERS SUPPORT TO ISRAELIS AFTER HAMAS ATTACKS: ‘OUR HEART BREAKS FOR YOU’

“I would say, No. 1, is just disappointed, sad,” Weiss told Fox News Digital.

“It’s a bummer that there is some sort of justification for what took place,” Weiss continued, expressing carefulness in his word choice. “I think anybody who has seen the videos of what’s happened is familiar with any of the stories that you’ve heard from people, that’s just one-on-one disgusting terrorism at its core. It’s personal, it’s inhumane, it’s just so direct. And that action, in my opinion, is just rooted so deeply in hatred that I don’t really see how we’re seeing political organizations justify it in a political sense.”

“And I think that’s the point that’s really disappointing and disheartening a little bit is whatever your opinion is on the regimes in place, what we saw was horrific, devastating, should never occur human to human, and you’re seeing a justification. And I think that’s pretty disgusting.”

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) expressed “solidarity with Palestine” in a post on X, formerly Twitter, saying that Oct. 7 “events” were a “direct result of Israel’s apartheid regime — a regime that receives billions in funding from the United States.”

“We unequivocally condemn the killing of all civilians,” the post continued. “It is imperative for international human rights law to be respected. But we cannot forget that the Israeli state has systematically denied Palestinians the right to self-determination for decades.”

ORIOLES’ ISRAELI-AMERICAN PITCHER DEAN KREMER SAYS FAMILY WILL BE ON HIS MIND DURING POSTSEASON START

“This was not unprovoked. For over 60 years, Palestinians have faced ethnic cleansing, torture, bombings, and housing demolitions. Gaza is still under a blockade.”

Beyond the posts on social media, pro-Palestinian rallies were seen in parts of the country last week, with the New York chapter of the DSA promoting a pro-Palestinian rally in New York.

Demonstrators at the rally burned and stomped on an Israeli flag and taunted Israel supporters with an image of a swastika. Others exhibited signs that read, “Palestinian return by any means necessary,” “Israeli apartheid & genocide funded by the U.S.” and “End all U.S. aid to Israel!”

Shortly after the attacks, more than two dozen Harvard student organizations declared in a statement that they held “the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence.”

“This chant that you keep hearing, ‘From the river to the sea Palestine will be free,’ that’s just another way of yelling Israel needs to be wiped off the map,” Weiss told Fox News Digital. “Because if you’re familiar with the geography of the region, that’s the land you’re describing. The state of Israel is included in that.”

“I’m not arguing against the people of Palestine being free and treated fairly, but I think to situate the blame exclusively with Israel without a recognition that Hamas is a terrorist organization bent on extermination of the Jews and eradicating the world of the land of Israel, I don’t think those are minced words. And I think chanting that, maybe to a lot of people who are uneducated and unfamiliar with the situation and the geography of the region, might not realize quite what they’re saying, but that’s what you’re saying.”

Weiss was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the sixth round of the 2013 MLB Draft out of UCLA and has played for three teams in his MLB career, appearing in 12 games for the Red Sox and the Los Angeles Angels during the 2023 MLB season.

Weiss was a member of the Team Israel baseball roster at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, telling Fox News Digital that his participation meant a great deal to him.

“It’s really important to me. I’ve always had a strong Jewish-American identity, and getting the opportunity to represent Israel was super special,” Weiss said.

“When we went to the Olympics, we don’t just stay in any building,” he continued. “We stay in a secured, centered building. We have private Israeli security with us. We’re beeped in and out, nobody can get to our floor, obviously after what happened in Munich [in 1972]. So, the whole experience is just different as an Israeli. And so, obviously, it was a great sense of pride to get to do it. We wanted to represent the country well, and I think we did it well as [a] people.”

The 2020 Olympics marked the first time that Israel had sent a baseball team to the games.

“I proudly wore Israel across my chest. It was meaningful for my family,” Weiss said. “I think a lot of people suffered a lot to see the establishment of a Jewish state throughout – we’ll call it just history in general – with the Jews never really having a homeland and kind of all of our holidays basically celebrating ‘they tried to kill us, and they didn’t get us all.’ That’s the majority of the Jewish holidays.”

“I think getting to represent that was really special, and I have a strong sense of community and family with not only … Jewish Americans but Israeli Jews as well.”

Purely from a humanity standpoint, Weiss was saddened by some of the reactions after the Hamas terrorist attack, though not completely surprised.

“I guess unfortunately, probably not,” Weiss said when asked if he was surprised by the rallies and the posts attempting to justify the attack. “I think somehow the Jews make up 0.2 percent of the population, yet [billionaire George] Soros is the boogie man in America. There seems to be antisemitic [tropes] in a lot of what you hear, from kind of everywhere. So, I guess I’m not stunned, but I think I’m disappointed in just the humanity of it because … this is just so different in a human response.”

PRO BASKETBALL PLAYER JARED ARMSTRONG DESCRIBES LIVING IN ISRAEL DURING HAMAS ATTACK

“To see what you saw and applaud it, that’s not human. That’s not how our emotions should work when you see families slaughtered indiscriminately. And these people are posting videos of it, they’re proud of it, they’re parading, they’re taking hostages. This isn’t war. It’s terrorism at its most disgusting level.”

“I’m just saddened. It’s just not a good showing for humanity,” Weiss added.

Since the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks, Israel has declared war on Hamas and launched airstrikes in Gaza, leading to more deaths.

Fox News’ Kyle Morris and Lindsay Kornick contributed to this report.

5 health benefits you’ll see from 30 days without alcohol

Latest & Breaking News on Fox News

Abstaining from alcohol consumption, even just for 30 days, can provide lots of physical and mental health benefits.

October is a popular month to put drinking to a halt with “Sober October,” a challenge originally started in the United Kingdom as a fundraiser for fighting cancer.

Moderate drinking is considered two drinks a day or less for men and one drink or less for woman, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Binge-drinking, according to the same source, is quantified as five or more drinks on an occasion (lasting two to three hours) for men and four or more drinks on occasion for woman. Excessive alcohol consumption can leave you feeling less than ideal for a long time, with brutal hangovers often accompanying a fun night out.

THESE ARE THE WORST DRINKS FOR YOUR HEALTH, ACCORDING TO NUTRITIONISTS

If you are looking for a way to improve your physical and mental well-being at any point of the year, taking a 30-day break from alcohol can lead to many health benefits.

Below are five health-related improvements you may see if you spend 30 days alcohol-free.

Drinking alcohol can increase the risk for many different diseases. One of these is liver disease.

Regular alcohol consumption has a negative effect on the liver. Drinking negatively impacts the liver cells and can lead to liver disease. By not drinking, the liver has the chance to regenerate and improve its function. Even just 30 days of sobriety can greatly increase the liver’s function.

No alcohol consumption leads to better sleep, and better sleep leads to improved overall health. When alcohol is consumed close to the time you go to bed for the night, quality sleep can be interrupted.

This loss of quality sleep will give you a groggy feeling the next day.

Once alcohol is removed from your routine, your sleep cycle will start to get back on track, leaving you more alert and refreshed in the morning.

Excessive drinking may lead to weight gain, so the opposite holds true when cutting alcohol out of your system. Alcohol slows down your metabolism and is extremely high in calories (especially those super sweet drinks).

These two factors make it more difficult to lose weight with regular consumption. Cutting it out of your diet can assist with weight loss.

Do you ever have an upset stomach after drinking? Experience acid reflux? You’re not alone. Just like drinking can cause inflammation in the liver, it can also cause inflammation of the stomach lining.

A sober month gives your stomach a chance to get back to normal, and properly digest foods as it is meant to.

Thirty days of being alcohol-free can drastically improve brain function and your overall mood.

Alcohol takes a toll on the brain, and can cause short-term damage, such as poor decision-making and long-term damage like memory issues.

Heavy drinking can deeply impact your mood, making you feel anxious and foggy. Giving your brain a break can help improve its function and possibly prevent memory issues in the future that could be associated with heavy alcohol intake.
