9 High-Protein Breakfasts You Can Buy at the Store Right Now That Aren’t Eggs

Well+Good

One of the biggest challenges to eating enough protein at breakfast is either not liking eggs or getting tired of eating them every day. That’s why we teamed up with dietitians and nutrition experts to learn exactly what high-protein breakfasts that aren’t eggs they recommend. You can find these products at the store right now and start fueling your mornings with more balance.

As a dietitian, I’ve been accused of being the “protein police,” and while I understand that everybody seems to be harping on the benefits of protein, it is for good reason. Protein helps keep us full, stabilizes our blood sugar levels, and can even reduce cravings at night. In particular, protein at breakfast tends to be an important part of setting yourself up for success for the day. Some research even shows that a high-protein breakfast can reduce hunger and cravings at night and reduce the overall energy intake we consume in a day.

The best high-protein breakfasts that aren’t eggs, according to experts

Applegate Chicken Maple Sausage

While sausage is delicious, eating it every day can rack up some serious calories and saturated fat that may not support your health. Applegate makes a delicious chicken sausage that is lower in total fat and calories compared to traditional options. I love their chicken maple sausage for a quick, high-protein breakfast side that you can microwave and eat in a pinch.

Banza Protein Waffles

Previously known for their chickpea pasta products, Banza has released a high-protein, high-fiber frozen waffle line. With 10 g of protein per serving of two, these are hard to beat compared to traditional waffles. Try topping this with a drizzle of peanut butter, Chia seeds, and honey for a balanced breakfast that contains everything you need for long-lasting energy: protein, fiber, and healthy carbs.

Good Culture Organic Cottage Cheese

Cottage cheese is having a moment, and I love it as a protein base for your breakfast. It’s a fantastic high-protein food that’s perfect for breakfast, adds Lindsey Janeiro, RD of Nutrition to Fit and Healthy*ish Recipes. “Good Culture’s low-fat cottage cheese contains a whopping 14 grams of protein per half-cup serving,” she adds. “One of my favorite things about using cottage cheese at breakfast is how versatile it is: You can scoop it over whole grain toast, enjoy it sweet with fruit or savory with marinated tomatoes, stir it into scrambled eggs, or blend some into a smoothie. You can also buy individual containers of cottage cheese for a convenient, on-the-go protein source.”

Simple Mills Almond Flour Protein Pancake Mix

These almond flour-based protein pancakes are easy to make ahead and have a plant-forward, protein-packed breakfast option ready to heat up in the mornings. “A serving size of these plant-based pancakes will add 11 grams of protein to your morning meal. They are also a good source of potassium and iron, providing 10 percent of the daily value of each nutrient,” says Kiran Campbell, RD.

Smoked salmon

If you like Lox, you can enjoy the benefits of a protein-packed breakfast option with the added benefit of healthy fats for your heart. “One of my favorite savory breakfast meals is smoked salmon, with a smear of mashed avocado, on top of a toasted whole wheat bagel,” offers Roxana Ehsani, MS, RD, CSSD, LDN, registered dietitian nutritionist and board-certified sports dietitian. “Smoked salmon is ready to eat, provides a high-quality source of protein, is loaded with anti-inflammatory omega-3s DHA and EPA and immune-supporting vitamin D.”

“I always choose wild sockeye salmon out of Alaska, as it’s guaranteed to be wild and sustainable, and sockeye tends to have more vitamin D than other types of salmon,” she says. “Just consuming a bagel with cream cheese for example doesn’t pack enough protein to keep you full for longer, but when you add smoked salmon on top, you bump up your protein at that meal, will stay full for longer, and reap its nutrient-dense benefits at the same time.”

Food for Life Ezekiel 4:9 Organic Sprouted Grain Cereal

Sometimes you just want a bowl of cereal in the morning, but you don’t want to feel hungry right after eating. High-protein cereals offer the perfect solution to enjoying your favorite comfort breakfast foods without the sugar crash.

Look for brands that contain at least 8g of protein per serving and are made from a variety of whole grains, nuts, and seeds for added fiber, says New Jersey based dietitian Erin Palinski-Wade, RD, CDCES, author of 2-Day Diabetes Diet. For example, Food for Life Ezekiel 4:9 Organic Sprouted Grain Cereal incorporates almonds, pulses, and sprouted grains for a nutrition-packed breakfast with 8g of fiber per serving, she adds.

Fairlife Core Power Protein Shakes

With 26g of protein per serving, you can’t go wrong with a premade protein shake that tastes like chocolate milk. Fairlife makes its drinks from real milk that it filters until it’s low in carbohydrates and high in protein. The best part? The taste!

Oikos Pro Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt is an excellent source of protein in the morning as an alternative to eggs. Great in smoothies, yogurt bowls, or on its own if you’re in a pinch, Oikos Pro contains more protein than most yogurt brands on grocery shelves.

“It’s packed with 20g of high-quality dairy protein which is a lot for a little 5.3 oz cup, says Amanda Blechman, RD, CDN, director of health and scientific affairs at Danone North America. “I love it as an easy and convenient breakfast addition, and I like to add some granola and nuts for crunch, plus berries for a little added nutrition without any prep.”

Kodiak Oatmeal Power Cup

Kodiak has made a name for itself in the breakfast foods grocery aisle with products like its protein pancake mixes and frozen protein waffles. Their Oatmeal Power Cup offers a solid 14g of protein that you can quickly heat up in the microwave when you just add water.

“These single-serve oatmeal cups are made with 100-percent rolled oats and added pea protein and whey protein isolate for more protein,” explains Toby Amidor, MS, RD, CDN, FAND award-winning nutrition expert and Wall Street Journal best-selling author of Up Your Veggies: Flexitarian Recipes for the Whole Family. It’s a perfect breakfast to tote to work, bring to a hotel, or even a college dorm.” In addition to the 14g of protein, each cup provides 230 calories and 4g of fiber, she adds.

Fancy A 2011 HSV Clubsport R8 Tourer To Drive On U.S. Roads?

Carscoops

A rare Clubsport R8 Tourer built by Holden Specialty Vehicles (HSV) in Australia in 2011 is heading to auction but it is no longer located Down Under. Instead, this HSV is being auctioned off through Mecum’s sales event in Chattanooga being held over the coming two days.

The auction reveals that this is 1 of 100 examples of the Holden Commodore-based Clubsport R8 Tourer that was built by HSV and asserts that it is one of just 13 built with Black paint and an automatic transmission. We’re not sure where Mecum got the 100-unit figure from as anyone who lived in Australia in the early 2010s will tell you these cars were a common sight on local roads and many thousands were produced across the car’s entire production run.

Nevertheless, there’s no denying that the Clubsport R8 Tourer is a very rare car on U.S. soil. The auction house hasn’t mentioned when or how the car was imported into the United States nor why the seller has decided to keep it in right-hand drive, rather than converting it to left-hand drive. Whatever the case may be, few would deny that this is one of the coolest V8-powered station wagons you’ll find in the U.S., right up there with the Cadillac CTS-V Wagon but perhaps even more desirable given its forbidden fruit status in the States.

The listing notes the car is powered by a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine with a custom tune and is emissions-compliant in all 50 states. When new, this HSV creation delivered 425 hp (317 kW) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque but the tune, long tube headers, high-flow cats, and stainless steel exhaust of this car probably means it has more grunt than that.

The car has 118,419 miles (190,576 km) under its belt and while there’s quite a lot, it has been resprayed since landing in the U.S.

A $150 Tesla CyberBeer Will Help Wash Down The Pain Of Waiting Four Years For A Cybertruck

Carscoops

The Tesla Cybertruck is still nowhere to be found, but that hasn’t stopped the company from cranking out some new merchandise. The latest is CyberBeer and it’s virtually impossible to escape if you’ve logged onto X today.

Putting that aside, the CyberBeer + CyberStein Limited Edition Set costs a whopping $150. However, this isn’t your run-of-the-mill beer as it pays tribute to the “angular exoskeleton” of the Cybertruck and comes in a bottle that features a distinctive gloss black sleeve.

The kit includes two 11.2 ounce (330 ml) beers that are 7% alcohol by volume (ABV) and brewed by Buzzrock Brewing. Tesla describes them as a “Helles Lager with European Noble Hops Saaz and Hallertau Mittlefruh.” The automaker goes onto say the beers are “accentuated by notes of herb and spice and more notable aromas of tea and citrus.”

Since drinking out of the bottle is passé, the kit includes two matte black ceramic beer steins that were “glazed and fired to mirror the form of [the] Cybertruck and finished with a gloss interior and signature Tesla logo.” While they look like edgy pitchers, they’ll likely become a collectors item.

Tesla is currently accepting orders and it appears the kits are limited to people who live in the United States and are at least 21 years old. Orders are slated to ship later this month, although the $150 price tag doesn’t include tax or a $15 shipping charge. As a result, those two beers and mugs will set you back $176.63 overall.

Police Arrest Four Juveniles Going 115 MPH In Stolen Hyundai For TikTok Clout

Carscoops

Police in North Carolina nabbed a quartet of teens who initiated a high-speed chase in a stolen car and got caught. According to the suspects, they ran from authorities so that they could post about it on TikTok. Officers used stop sticks to end the chase and then found two guns including a stolen one.

All four juveniles ended up in custody after a nine-minute police chase in Monroe, NC. Initially, officers tried to pull the car over on Concord Highway but the driver decided to run. Over the course of the chase, the kids ended up at speeds of 115 mph (185 km/h), police say.

When they didn’t pull over, police put out a spike strip and disabled the vehicle. That vehicle just happened to be a Hyundai. Authorities didn’t say if it was one of the ones involved in the now infamous TikTok Boys Kia/Hyundai theft phenomenon. Regardless of how the teens obtained the vehicle, it clearly wasn’t theirs to begin with.

Once police stopped the car the teens, aged 14 to 17, admitted that they were “making a TikTok video” according to local news outlet WSOC. Evidently, these kids didn’t realize just how serious the crime was and for whatever reason weren’t in school despite the fact that the chase happened around noon on a Monday.

During the search of the vehicle, police found two different handguns including one that was stolen. “It’s sad, it’s very sad. It put a lot of people in a lot of danger. For these kids to be out – and they referred to TikTok – they were thinking this was some kind of TikTok fun. They thought it was a joke,” said Monroe Lt. Morgan Malone.

Being juveniles, the police didn’t release any of their personal details. Nevertheless, they’ll face criminal charges through the Department of Juvenile Justice in North Carolina.

Earn 8 Marriott points per dollar this month with the Eat Around Town dining program

The Points Guy

Editor’s note: This is a recurring post, regularly updated with new information.

If you’re going to dine out, you might as well earn lots of points and miles. Using one of the best credit cards for dining is a good start, along with joining restaurant loyalty programs. But you can earn even more points and miles by enrolling in a dining rewards program and then dining at participating restaurants, clubs and bars.

This month, the Eat Around Town by Marriott Bonvoy program is a particularly compelling option because all members will earn 8 Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar, and there’s also a new member bonus. Here’s what you need to know about Marriott’s Eat Around Town program.

How to join Marriott’s Eat Around Town dining rewards program

The Eat Around Town by Marriott Bonvoy program is free to join. Go to the Eat Around Town website, where you may see a new member bonus. For example, if you enroll and link an eligible credit or debit card to your account by Dec. 31, you can earn up to 6,000 Marriott Bonvoy bonus points during your first 60 days in addition to the points you’d normally earn.

MARRIOTT.COM

To join Eat Around Town, click “Join Now” and sign in to your Marriott Bonvoy account. Once you sign in, Marriott will pre-fill your email address and ZIP code in a form. Check the terms and conditions box and click “Join Eat Around Town” to move to the next step.

Next, you must link at least one credit or debit card to your account. Ideally, it should be a card that earns bonus points on dining. Use this card when dining at participating restaurants, bars and clubs to earn extra Marriott Bonvoy points through Eat Around Town. If you use a debit card, you must request that it be processed as credit. That way, the transaction qualifies for earning points with Eat Around Town.

How to earn points with Marriott’s Eat Around Town dining rewards program

Members earn points with the Eat Around Town dining rewards program when using an enrolled card at eligible restaurants, bars and clubs. Simply register a credit card (preferably one that earns bonus points on dining) and use it at a participating restaurant. You can search for eligible locations on the Eat Around Town website.

MARRIOTT.COM

How many points you earn through Eat Around Town typically depends on your Marriott Bonvoy elite status:

4 points per dollar spent for Marriott Bonvoy members without elite status.
6 points per dollar spent for Marriott Bonvoy elite members.

But Marriott frequently offers promotions that may allow you to earn more points when you dine. For example, throughout October, all members will earn 8 points per dollar spent. Plus, thanks to the Frequent Diner bonus, you can earn an extra 1,000 bonus points every time you complete 10 eligible dines of $30 or more through Dec. 31.

You’ll usually need to opt in to receive Eat Around Town emails to earn bonus points through promotions. And you can usually only earn bonus points on one bonus-qualifying visit per restaurant per day. Your Eat Around Town account will expire if you don’t earn rewards for 36 consecutive months.

You should allow one to two weeks after dining for points to appear in your Marriott Bonvoy account. And bonus points from promotions can take even longer to reach your Marriott Bonvoy account. So, while the Eat Around Town program is an easy way to earn Marriott points, it isn’t a quick way to top off your Marriott Bonvoy account for an upcoming redemption.

Cards to use with Marriott Eat Around Town

YAGI STUDIO/GETTY IMAGES

You can enroll almost any credit or debit card in the Eat Around Town by Marriott Bonvoy program. However, you’ll want to enroll one or more of your best credit cards for dining to maximize your earnings. Here are some cards to consider:

American Express® Gold Card: Earn 4 Amex Membership Rewards points per dollar spent at restaurants, plus takeout and delivery in the U.S.
Chase Sapphire Preferred Card: Earn 3 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent on dining.
Chase Sapphire Reserve: Earn 3 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent on dining.
American Express® Green Card: Earn 3 Amex Membership Rewards points per dollar spent at restaurants, plus takeout and delivery in the U.S

The information for the American Express Green Card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

To earn even more Marriott Bonvoy points, you may want to enroll a Marriott Bonvoy credit card in the program. You’ll earn Marriott Bonvoy points from your credit card and the Eat Around Town program if you do so. Specifically, you may want to consider the following Marriott cards:

Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card: Earn 4 Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar spent at restaurants.
Marriott Bonvoy Bevy™ American Express® Card: Earn 4 Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar spent on up to $15,000 in combined purchases each calendar year at restaurants and U.S. supermarkets (then 2 points per dollar spent).
Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card: Earn 3 Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar spent at restaurants worldwide.
Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card: Earn 3 Marriott Bonvoy points per dollar spent on the first $6,000 in combined purchases each calendar year on grocery stores, gas stations and dining.

Of course, the rates listed above are what you’d earn from spending on your credit card. You’d also earn Marriott points from the Eat Around Town program when you dine at participating locations.

Is Marriott’s Eat Around Town dining rewards program worth it?

MSTUDIOIMAGES/GETTY IMAGES

Even if you live in an area with few participating restaurants, it’s usually worth enrolling in a dining rewards program. After all, registering doesn’t take long, and you may periodically pick up some bonus points.

However, you can only enroll each card in one Rewards Network-operated dining rewards program at a time. So, the more critical question is whether Marriott’s Eat Around Town dining rewards program is best for you.

After all, many other loyalty programs have dining rewards programs. And some of these programs may give you a more significant spending return. Here are some of the other popular dining rewards programs:

Hotels: Hilton Honors Dining, IHG One Rewards Dine & Earn and Choice Privileges Eat and Earn.
Airlines: American AAdvantage Dining, United MileagePlus Dining, Delta SkyMiles Dining, Alaska Mileage Plan Dining, Southwest Rapid Rewards Dining, JetBlue TrueBlue Dining and Free Spirit Dining.
Transferable rewards programs: Bilt Dining.

Marriott’s Eat Around Town program differs from most other dining rewards programs in one crucial way: Most programs base your earning rate on how often you dine with the program and whether you’ve opted in to receive emails. But Eat Around Town usually bases your earning rate on your Marriott Bonvoy elite status (although this October, all members will earn the same). So, if you have elite status with Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott’s Eat Around Town program may be your best option.

Bottom line

You can already earn plenty of rewards when dining out with the best credit cards for dining. However, you should also enroll your credit cards in a dining rewards program to maximize your earnings.

Since you can only enroll each card in one Rewards Network dining rewards program, it’s essential to determine which dining rewards program is best for you. Marriott’s Eat Around Town program is particularly appealing to Marriott members with Bonvoy elite status, as these members earn at the highest rate regardless of how frequently they use the program.

The Movement Mantras That Nike Trainers Use to Motivate Every Flow, Run, or Sweat Session

Well+Good

Everyone’s been there: You’re in the middle of a hard workout after a long day, when suddenly the thought “I don’t think I can do this” floats into your mind.

Sure, sometimes you can just muscle past those intrusive thoughts, but other times you need a helping hand to keep your motivation on lock—and that’s where movement mantras come in handy. Movement mantras are positive affirmations designed to simultaneously help you ward off negative thoughts and motivate you to kick your workout’s butt.

The best part? You can customize them to any workout modality, whether you’re feeling a yoga flow or a HIIT workout. For example, while you might opt for a more grounding sentiment during a vinyasa flow, it might be closer to “beast mode” energy for a lifting sesh.

Need some inspo to help you come up with some? We tapped two Nike Well Collective trainers, Clarissa Karunaratne and Briana Thompson, to give us the DL on their favorite movement mantras for their preferred workout modalities.

Mantras for yoga

When it comes to yoga, Karunaratne is a seasoned pro who uses flows to get out of her head and focus on her breath—that’s why her movement mantra during a yoga sesh is “just be.” “We’re constantly doing so much,” she says. “When I’m on my mat, it helps me tune out everything else around me and focus on my movement, breath, and fully unplug. This mental stillness also translates into my day, especially when I feel like there are things I cannot control, I come back to stillness and zoom out.”

Thompson, who uses yoga to release tension and focus inward, is a yoga newbie and says classes can feel intimidating. When she’s having doubts during a flow, she repeats “stay in my flow” to herself. “I have to consistently talk to myself to remember to remain present in my own experience,” she says.

Mantras for strength training

There’s nothing better than feeling strong during a strength training sesh, but it’s also an easy modality to psych yourself out about when you’re staring down a heavy-laden squat rack or set of dumbbells. When Karunaratne needs an extra push to keep lifting, she says “how you do anything is how you do everything” to silence the doubts. “Even on days I don’t want to try to lift heavier, I remember it’s a choice to challenge myself and see what new heights I can reach,” she says.

Mantras for cycling

Every cycling enthusiast knows there are ups and downs during every class (literally, when you’re doing hills), and when Thompson needs motivation to keep pedaling, she’ll repeat the mantra “embrace the journey.” “When I’m on the bike, I’m reminded that the ride belongs to me, and I have the freedom to chart my own course,” Thompson says. “The class is a metaphor for life’s journey, allowing the mind to wander through the destinations and aspirations I want to pursue beyond the bike.”

Mantras for running

Karunaratne turned her frenemy relationship with running into one of love by doing two things: First, by finding the right shoes (she recommends Nike’s Vaporfly 3s) and second, by telling herself “if I want something I’ve never had, I must do something I’ve never done” when she doesn’t feel like running. “I know I feel better afterwards, but sometimes the act of getting on the treadmill or putting on my running shoes for an outdoor run is challenging,” she says. “I remember that my future self needs me to choose differently.”

Mantras for Lagree

Lagree—a type of workout similar to Pilates that targets multiple muscle groups at once—is Thompson’s preferred form of strength training. The “time over tension” mentality of the class provides a welcome relief from her busy life, which is why her Lagree mantra is “time is mine.” “It’s in this unhurried pace that the magic of the workout unfolds,” she says. “I appreciate the ability to take control of the clock in this format, allowing me to escape the day’s rush while remaining firmly anchored to my fitness goals.”

No matter what kind of exercise you enjoy, creating your own movement mantras (or borrowing one of Karunaratne or Thompson’s) will help give you the motivation to power through your workout and show yourself that you can do it.

92-Year-Old Bernie Ecclestone Buys His Way Out Of Jail For $792 Million

Carscoops

The former head of Formula One, Bernie Ecclestone, has pled guilty to tax fraud with U.K. authorities. The 92-year-old motorsports personality will now have to pay £652.6 million ($791.8 million USD at current exchange rates) in taxes, interest, and penalties, but avoids jail time.

The decision comes as part of a civil settlement with His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC), which said it was misled about overseas assets worth more than £400 million ($485 million USD) by Ecclestone. The tax authority says it was misled about these assets between 1994 and 2022.

Ecclestone pled guilty to a single count of tax fraud by false representation a little over a month before he was set to stand trial, Reuters reports. Although he tried to avoid the trial by getting a letter from his cardiologist saying the stress of a court case meant that he was “more likely to die than not during the trial,” Judge Simon Bryan ruled that it posed no immediate danger to Ecclestone’s life.

Read: Bernie Ecclestone Claims He Would “Take A Bullet” For Putin, F1 Says Be Our Guest

The case dates back to 2015, when at a meeting with HMRC, the former F1 CEO said that he had established just one trust for his daughters, and that he was not a beneficiary or settler of any other trusts.

However, the HMRC found that he was the settler and beneficiary of a variety of them, including one trust that held a company that sent £416 million ($505 million USD) to a bank account in Singapore in 2010.

Ecclestone’s lawyer told the court that he “did not know the true position” of the trusts, and claimed that his answer to the HMRC was an “impulsive lapse of judgment.” The tax authority maintains that he lied.

“This conviction demonstrates no-one is above the law and HMRC will work tirelessly to ensure the tax system is fair to all and pays for our vital public services,” said Richard Las, chief investigation officer and director of the Fraud Investigation Service at HMRC.

Although Ecclestone must pay hundreds of millions of dollars as part of the settlement, he avoids having to spend time locked up as a result of it. Although he was sentenced to a 17-month prison sentence, it was suspended for two years. As a result, he won’t go to jail unless he commits another criminal offense.

VW ID.Sharan Render Imagines A Sleek Electric Minivan We Never Knew We Needed

Carscoops

The Volkswagen Sharan met its end in 2022 after a 27-year run, with the retro-styled ID.Buzz effectively taking its place. The demand for minivans, or MPVs as they’re known in Europe, has waned in recent years, largely due to the overwhelming popularity of SUVs and crossovers.

However, independent designer Sucarchow has embarked on a mission to imagine how a modern incarnation of the Sharan could find its place in Volkswagen’s electric ID. lineup, even in a landscape dominated by high-riding models.

The fictional VW ID.Sharan borrows all of its design cues from the ID.7 sedan, incorporating features like slim LED headlights, T-shaped bumper intakes, and a curvy character line along the profile. This design direction is consistent with the previous generation of the Sharan, which essentially mirrored the styling of the Passat B7 as a minivan version.

The second-gen VW Sharan (above) compared to the sleek rendering of the fictional ID.Sharan (below).

Rendering: @SugarDesign_1 / Instagram

The electric minivan features a more aerodynamic silhouette, making it look sleeker and sportier compared to its bulkier predecessor. At the same time, the stretched wheelbase, sliding rear doors and large greenhouse are carried over, promising a spacious cabin in combination with the beneficial packaging of the EV-dedicated MEB architecture. If such a vehicle was to become reality, it would definitely come with a three-row 7-seater layout, honoring the legacy of VW’s largest Euro minivan.

The VW Sharan debuted in 1995, alongside its rebadged siblings, the Seat Alhambra and Ford Galaxy. A second generation followed in 2010 alongside the Seat Alhambra, but not the Galaxy as Ford parted ways using its own underpinnings for the S-Max and Galaxy minivans. Years passed and SUVs became the new norm, making large minivans feel like dinosaurs close to extinction – at least in Europe. As a result, Seat discontinued the Alhambra in 2020 and VW ended production of the Sharan in 2022, without any planned successors.

In the modern era, civilized commercial van-based offerings like the Caddy, Transporter T6.1, and Multivan T7 have successfully taken the role of large family haulers in Volkswagen’s range, alongside high-riding SUV models. Add the cool-looking fully electric VW ID.Buzz into the equation and you’ll understand why there is no room for an ID.Sharan to blossom. Still, traditional minivans are quite popular in markets like China, where VW offers the Viloran – the largest MQB-based model in the world. Could an electric successor look like Sugarchow’s render? Only time will tell.

Note: The renderings in this story are not related to nor endorsed by VW.

Man Who Tricked Tesla Into Giving Him Five EVs Without Paying Gets 4 Years Prison

Carscoops

A 34-year-old man from Shelburne, Vermont will be spending the next four years behind bars after admitting to taking delivery of five new Tesla vehicles without paying them as part of a simple order loophole he discovered.

In September 2018, Michael Gonzalez placed an order for a Tesla Model 3 costing $58,000 through the company’s website. He provided a $2,500 deposit and was notified the following month that the car was ready for delivery. He then provided Tesla with bank account information and took delivery of the car. Tesla also gave him a certificate of ownership.

The only issue is that Gonzalez knew the bank account information he had provided Tesla was for an account without the necessary funds to pay for the car. Tesla followed up the following week notifying him that the transaction couldn’t be completed. Gonzalez ignored Tesla and soon sold the Model 3 to a used car dealer for $42,000.

advertisement scroll to continue

Prosecutors revealed that Gonzalez repeated these steps four additional times, each time for a high-end Model X. In some cases, he would enter the name of a girlfriend or ex-girlfriend as the buyer, provide Tesla with account details with insufficient funds, and then take delivery of the vehicle. Market Watch reports he sold one Model X on Craigslist for $108,000 and one on eBay for $97,000.

Read: Tesla’s New Base Model S And Model X Are $10,000 Cheaper, But There’s A Catch

The 34-year-old’s scheme reached a crescendo later in 2019 when he took delivery of a Model X without paying for it but was not provided with a certificate of ownership by Tesla. So, what did he do? Well, he decided to drive the car out onto the frozen Lake Champlain and set it on fire. He then filed an insurance claim for it but failed to appear for an interview when the insurer asked him to make an in-person visit.

In another case, a repo man was sent by Tesla to take back a Model X that had been delivered to Gonzalez. He fled and stored the EV in a storage unit.

The man was scheduled to face trial but in April, pled guilty to five counts of possessing and disposing of stolen vehicles. This week he was sentenced to four years in prison and ordered to pay back Tesla $493,000 and forfeit the $231,900 he made by selling three of the five cars.

StriVectin Discovery Series: Brighten & Restore — $40.00

Vitamin C is arguably a derm’s favorite vitamin—especially when it comes to preserving skin. This set is chockful of vitamin C, and the serum features another powerful ingredient: retinol. “[The combination of vitamin C and retinol] can be a game-changer for improving signs of aging like fine lines and evening out skin texture,” dermatologist Jeannette Graf, MD, previously told Well+Good. Multitasking beauty products are always a win.

Too Faced Lip Injection Lip Plumping Quad — $49.00

Ever been curious what you’d look like with lip fillers? Nix the needles, but get the plump with this set of lip glosses. “It has several ingredients that contribute to its success as a lip plumper,” facial plastic surgeon Michael Somenek, MD, previously told Well+Good. “It contains capsicum frutescens resin, which is a wild chili pepper, and cinnamal, the oil that gives cinnamon its spice. The irritants in these two ingredients cause a tingling or burning sensation when applied to the lips and can temporarily increase the size of the lips.”

Add a few of these steals to your cart ASAP to get the most out of the QVC beauty event—you’ll be thankful for the pick-me-up they’ll provide when the busyness of the holidays starts up.
