New York crowds gather for sunset ‘Manhattanhenge’
Each year the Sun aligns with New York City’s gridiron street layout and people gather to watch it set between the skyscrapers.
The ‘Manhattanhenge’ sunset can be seen from 14th, 23rd, 34th, 42nd and 57th streets in Manhattan as well as across the East River in the Long Island City section of Queens.
This year’s dates are 28 May and 13 July, when half of the Sun’s disc is visible on the grid at sunset. ‘Full Sun’ dates are on 29 May and 12 July.
