New ad targets Jordan, Republican supporters over 2020 election, Jan. 6

A left-leaning watchdog group released an ad Monday targeting Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and supporters of his Speakership bid for Jordan’s role in former President Trump’s attempts to stay in power after the 2020 election and for Jordan’s connection to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

“Every Republican who votes for Jim Jordan to be Speaker of the House should be held accountable for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election, support for the attack on our country on January 6th, and attacks on our democracy,” the Congressional Integrity Project wrote in a post attached to the video released on X, formerly Twitter.

The ad, released on Monday by the Congressional Integrity Project, is a compilation of footage from news reports, as well as recent remarks from Republicans who have spoken out against Jordan – including former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) and Cassidy Hutchinson, who testified before the committee investigating Jan. 6 about what she witnessed as chief of staff to Mark Meadows, Trump’s White House chief of staff.

“Jim Jordan knew more about what Donald Trump had planned for January 6 than any other member of the House of Representatives,” Cheney said in a clip included in the ad.

“Jim Jordan was privy to nearly everything if not everything about and pertaining to January 6. Jim Jordan can’t be trusted with the Constitution,” Hutchinson said in a clip in the ad.

The ad comes right before the House is expected to vote for a new Speaker on Tuesday. Jordan is the GOP nominee, and while he does not yet appear to have the necessary 217 votes to win the gavel on the House floor, he gained significant momentum on Monday and is inching closer to reaching that threshold.

“Right now, the leading contender to become speaker and second in line to the presidency is a co-founder of the far-right House Freedom Caucus election denier Maga extremist. He’s arguably the member of Congress most involved in Donald Trump’s attempted coup,” the ad began.
