Who doesn’t get TikTok videos sent to them by friends or family via text or email, leading us to watch them on our current web browser? ‘Even if you don’t have a TikTok account, it can make you vulnerable to them.
Bellamarie M, who frequently watches TikTok videos outside of the app, wrote to me concerned about this very issue:
“None of our devices have the TikTok app but my husband uses Facebook and occasionally will view a TikTok video, mostly using the phone. Can his data/usage be captured by just viewing or does the app need to be installed on the device being used? Our phones do have a security app installed that scans for security issues but wanted to get your input on the matter.”
When it comes to our personal information on social media, we really have to be careful, especially when it comes to TikTok. You see, TikTok is owned by a Chinese company, ByteDance, which is required by law to give data and information they collect to the Chinese government at a moment’s notice. TikTok’s fairly advanced algorithm can easily track your search history, leaving me wondering just how much the Chinese government knows about those of us using TikTok.
Does TikTok follow you outside of the App?
Bellamarie M’s concerns are valid, as TikTok has been known to be a more significant threat to one’s privacy and security than any other social media app available today. TikTok is known for tracking the behavior of all its users, namely the types of videos they view, like, and share.
INDIANA BLOCKS TIKTOK FROM STATE DEVICES, JOINS 19 OTHER STATES IN LEGISLATION AGAINST THE APP
In addressing Bellamarie’s question regarding watching TikTok videos on Facebook, you should be aware of a few things:
1) Sometimes, you’ll see videos with the “TikTok” logo on it playing on Facebook. If you watch that video on Facebook, it may be an extracted video living on Facebook. This extracted video does not connect to TikTok; therefore, TikTok can’t track you in any capacity.
2) You may see a thumbnail with a play icon within Facebook, with a grey bar below it indicating that the source is TikTok. If you click that play icon, it will bring you to TikTok on their webpage or in their app.
Now, if you have an account with TikTok and you’re brought to your logged-in page or app to watch this, then some tracking is happening.
However, suppose you are brought to the non-logged-in TikTok web page to view the video without logging in to a TikTok account. In that case, TikTok might still be tracking you.
GREENWALD CALLS OUT TIKTOK FOR CENSORING ON BEHALF OF US GOVERNMENT, NOT JUST CHINA
According to a Consumer Reports study, TikTok does track certain information, such as your IP address and select browsing history, while you are using the app or website, whether you are logged in to a TikTok account. A spokesperson confirmed, however, that they are only tracking people without a TikTok account for “aggregated reports,” not intended to barrage them with ads – instead to “improve the effectiveness” of TikTok’s own advertising service by examining their likes and dislikes.
What information is TikTok collecting?
As far as we know, TikTok is not trying to hack into your bank accounts or tamper with your social security. Instead, they follow your behavior on the app and across the internet to determine your interests, likes, and dislikes.
LAWMAKERS RAMP UP WARNINGS ABOUT TIKTOK, CALL FOR NATIONAL BAN: ‘THIS IS DIGITAL FENTANYL’
Through pixels, other companies can use this information shared with TikTok for promotional purposes. Should you be watching TikTok videos exclusively on another platform, such as Facebook or Instagram, and have never created a TikTok account, they have access to far less of your information than they would otherwise.
Use TikTok at your own risk
All concerns regarding using TikTok are certainly understandable, and while for some it is irresistible, keep in mind that the smartest way if you are going to use TikTok is to limit as much information you can that TikTok can access from you.

Find out just how much TikTok knows about you
Anyone who does have a TikTok account has a right to request all data TikTok has collected from them. To do this:
JOE ROGAN SLAMS TIKTOK: ‘IT ENDS WITH CHINA HAVING ALL OF YOUR DATA’
Keep in mind there is a lot of data TikTok is collecting that could be used later against you. The more you use TikTok, the more they know what causes a reaction in you. TikTok learns and records which videos capture your attention most, and what videos you interact with or like. All it takes is for communist China to decide to take over TikTok to feed you propaganda. The scariest part is that you’ll never know it happening.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) did not rule out running for reelection for his congressional district seat in 2024 as he is about to step down from his leadership role after nearly 20 years of serving as the No. 2 House Democrat.
Hoyer, 83, told CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union” that he may run for a 22nd term.
“I may, I may,” Hoyer said.
“Your not ruling it out?” Bash asked.
“No,” Hoyer responded.
“You’re not on the exit ramp yet,” Bash said.
“No. This is my conference room,” Hoyer said during the interview in his House office.
Hoyer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced in November that they were leaving their leadership roles but would remain in the House as a new generation of leaders take over.
The Maryland Democrat is the dean of that state’s congressional delegation. He was first elected to the House in 1981 in a special election after serving in the state legislature. He has also served as House minority whip and was the chair of the House Democratic caucus.
Hoyer acknowledged in the same interview that he would have liked to become Speaker one day but said he does not think he could have done as good of a job as Pelosi did.

Donald Trump is the only Republican who has made a ’24 run official.
But many others have been floating the possibility of entering the GOP contest.
From Pence to Haley, here’s how Republicans are laying the groundwork for presidential runs.
It’s beginning to look a lot like 2016.
Former President Donald Trump is the only Republican so far who has announced a 2024 presidential run, but numerous others are signaling that they’re toying with the same idea.
They’re doing all the things they’re supposed to do to test their chances: Visiting early primary states, writing books, showing up on the Sunday shows, campaigning with other Republicans ahead of the 2022 midterms, and weighing in publicly on President Joe Biden’s policies — and even Trump’s latest controversies.
The next step will be hiring teams in Iowa and New Hampshire, Doug Heye, a longtime GOP aide and strategist, told Insider.
“You have got a stable of people who are essentially putting themselves all in the starting gates and all have their own timetable about when and if they decide to run,” he said.
December would be a “frustrating month” for political watchers because “no one is going to move that much,” said Kristin Davison, vice president and general consultant at Axiom Strategies. But hopefuls would be floating what she called “trial balloons” — in which they publicly raise the prospect of a run to see how donors and the press will react.
Whoever seizes the nomination will likely face Biden, though he has yet to formally declare his candidacy. But, Heye said, “it’s a real possibility” that the GOP lineup will be large like it was in 2016.
The stakes for losing the nomination aren’t all bad, even if Republicans might come out of it with an unforgettable Trump nickname. After all, one of the people running for president could end up getting chosen as running mate or get a seat on the new president’s Cabinet.
And there are other perks to formally seeking the White House, such as raising one’s profile and having a better shot at the presidency during a future cycle. Candidates could also wind up selling a lot more books or leave politics to get a prime TV or radio show.
“It’s a long, difficult process,” Heye said, “and you’re more likely to lose than not.”
Trump’s legal, political, and personal liabilities have been piling up in the last month, leading many in the GOP to say the party needs not just a fresh face but to be led by a candidate who can actually win.
Insider identified 17 people who could seek the Republican nomination in 2024, including Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas, Josh Hawley of Missouri, and Tim Scott of South Carolina who are up for re-election this cycle and will therefore be in campaign mode anyway. Each will have to effectively answer the “why I’m running for president” question and find their lane in the party — which will inevitably include defining, or redefining, their relationship with Trump.
“I don’t think you can discount any of them at this point,” Heye said. “It’s too early to determine who outside of Trump is a frontrunner.”

In case you missed it, our Wellness Trends predictions for the new year launched recently. A culmination of expert interviews, qualitative research, and market analyses, our predictions provide a glimpse into what 2023 might have in store for us in regard to beauty, fitness, food, and health. When it comes to sexual wellness, the future is clear: Destigmatizing pleasure is in. Previously shrouded in mystery, shame, and taboo, sex toys have *officially* gone mainstream as tools for sexual health and fulfillment.
“Gone are the days where we’re going to see more products in pink and blue, for women or men,” Bloomi CEO Rebecca Alvarez Story previously told Well+Good. “The whole concept of full-body pleasure is something that more big box retailers will lean into as well.”
Before diving into the new year (and all of the groundbreaking adult toys it’s bound to reveal) , take a walk down memory lane with us as we look back on the best sex toys of 2022. Amongst a sea of different vibrators, suckers, and thrusters, these 8 adult goodies rose above the competition– and took our climaxes to new heights.
A mini version of the iconic Magic Wand massager debuted this year, and naturally, we couldn’t keep our hands off of it. The Magic Wand, formerly known as the Hitatchi Wand, is world famous for its large, bulbous head and deep rumbling vibrations. Unlike its bigger, older sibling, the Magic Wand Mini is completely portable and wire-free, making it a great travel companion.
Well+Good reporter Gabrielle Kassel sang the Magic Wand Mini’s praises in her June product review. Despite a slight decrease in vibration power (6,300 RPM vs. 6,000 RPM), Kassel says that the Mini helped her achieve a faster “O” than the original Magic Wand. “Small, high-intensity, and outfitted with intuitive buttons, this vibrator has many of the features I look for in a wand vibrator,” says Kassel.
Whether you’re indulging in ‘me time’ or playing with a partner, the WeVibe Chorus aims to please. The Chorus is a hands-free, multi-use vibrating toy that can be used as a clitoral massager, a stroker, or a G-spot stimulator.
This toy is a great companion for couples, as it can be worn inside the vagina during intercourse, heightening sensations for both partners. It’s waterproof, rechargeable, and can be controlled via app or remote, allowing for discreet, sneaky fun.
The revolutionary Ohnut Vibrating Ring is both a toe-curling sex toy AND a comfort aid. This soft, stretchy vibrating ring can be stacked with Ohnut Buffer Rings to provide a soft cushion between the vaginal opening and sizable penises or toys. The buffer lets users decide just how deep they’d like to be penetrated, while the rumbly vibrator adds direct clitoral stimulation.
This handy device further proved to us that there’s nothing sexier than comfort.
For those uninitiated, the famous and top-rated Womanizer uses short bursts of air to tease the clitoris rather than vibrations, resulting in super-powerful orgasms. The Womanizer Starlet 2 is the latest-and-greatest iteration of the Womanizer Starlet, the petite version of the OG Womanizer. Its soft silicone head perfectly wraps around the clitoris, providing direct stimulation to its 8,000 nerve endings.
There’s a reason why this toy made our list of editor-approved sleep products; one earth-shattering orgasm with the Womanizer Starlet 2, and it’s lights out.
The beautiful Lelo Dot is part modern art sculpture, part multifunction luxury vibrator. It’s as innovative as it looks: the wavy teardrop shape allows you to precisely pinpoint small, specific areas of your anatomy (around the clitoris or along the frenulum, for example). The inch-thick hole at its center acts as a handle, allowing you to grip and grind to your preferences.
Kassel reports that its sharp tip can simulate the tongue-flicking sensations of oral play when handled correctly (yum!).
A sharp deviation from the art-like shape of Lelo Dot is the JimmyJane Ascend 3. This 7-mode handheld vibrator proves that when it comes to shape, sometimes simplicity is the spice of life. Its thin, flexible oval shape expertly fits to the contours of the body (think: all-over vulva action or buzzy stroking agent). It’s completely waterproof and comes with a remote, perfect for couples who want to kick things up a notch.
Regardless of your experience level in the—*ahem*—posterior department, the Lovers Anal Plug Training Set has something for everyone. At $39, this trio of smooth silicone plugs is by far the best bang (sorry) for your buck when it comes to anal toys. Their wide flare bases offer comfort and safety while their flexible necks make inserting and removal a breeze.
Whether you’re an anal newbie or a seasoned pro, this set belongs in your goodie drawer (or closet, if you’re lucky).
No need to choose between external and internal stimulation; the Zalo Rose Rabbit Vibrator is the best of both worlds. This waterproof rabbit-style vibrator expertly targets the clitoris and G-spot at the same time. The curved shaft vibrates with deep, powerful rumbles, while the top targets the clitoris with sucking patterns.
Bonus: its rose-shaped handle and gold accents are simply gorgeous.

At the stroke of midnight Don Lemon and revelers in New Orleans were dancing to Juvenile’s “Back That Azz Up” on CNN rather than celebrating the start of 2023 with toasts and kisses.
Spectators of the network’s New Year’s Eve took to social media after the countdown in the Central time zone was missed.
“CNN has redeemed itself by ringing in the new year in New Orleans with ‘Back That Azz Up’ and not acknowledging the stroke of midnight in any way,” Timothy Burke tweeted.
“As the clock ticked over, Lemon is seen throwing beaded necklaces into the dancing crowd, only moments later seeming to realize that the countdown and announcement had been missed,” Business Insider reports.
FOX NEWS CHANNEL HAD LARGEST CABLE TV AUDIENCE FOR 7TH-STRAIGHT YEAR IN 2022
The network was already under a watchful eye due to a much-discussed on-air booze ban following host Andy Cohen’s admitted to being “overserved” during last year’s broadcast.
Some viewers speculated the technical mistake this year was a result of Lemon not being able to hear his producers through his earpiece.

People are being encouraged to sing Amazing Grace on New Year’s Day to mark the 250th anniversary of the day its words were first delivered. How did the famous hymn come to be written in a Buckinghamshire market town?
Long known for hosting the world’s oldest pancake race, Olney also has an association with one of the world’s best-known hymns.
The “Welcome to Olney” sign proudly proclaims it as the “Home of Amazing Grace”.
The hymn was written in the town by curate – and former slave ship captain – the Reverend John Newton, for his sermon at St Peter and St Paul Church on 1 January 1773.
The words reflect his journey back to his Christian faith.
Newton (1725-1807) ended up in Buckinghamshire after a life at sea travelling between Liverpool, Africa and the West Indies as part of the transatlantic slave trade.
In March 1748, he was captain of a ship that was caught in a severe storm near the Brazilian coast, which he later credited with the start of his return to Christianity.
After a life on the seas, he was ordained in 1764 and appointed a curate in Olney, where he collaborated with poet William Cowper to publish The Olney Hymns in 1779.
It was in this volume that his Amazing Grace sermon’s words, originally titled Faith’s Review and Expectation, was published.
Tim German, a volunteer at the Cowper and Newton Museum in the town, said while Newton said he rediscovered his childhood faith during the storm, the words of Amazing Grace were not an apology for his role in the slave trade but “about his redemptive journey back” to Christianity.
“The ship nearly fell apart and some people died, but he was rescued and had a transformation religiously… his Christian faith started to come back,” he said.
“In Olney, they used to have services every New Year’s Day and it was a tradition where they would look back and look forward.
“He wanted to illustrate the story he was telling [in his sermon] which was reflecting his own life and his transition back to Christianity.
“His journey to saying ‘my role in slavery was totally wrong and I regret it’, came later.”
In 1788, Newton published a pamphlet called Thoughts Upon the African Slave Trade, which began with that apology and described what he had witnessed during his time as a trader.
Newton subsequently became an abolitionist and a mentor to William Wilberforce, leader of Britain’s abolitionist movement.
Dr Sean Lang, senior lecturer in history at Anglian Ruskin University, said Newton is now considered a “very important figure” in abolitionist history as he was one of the first people to point out the humanitarian problem with the slave trade.
He was also in the “perfect position” to do it because as a former slave ship captain he had a “unique knowledge of how the system worked”.
“Most people at that time didn’t see a problem with it,” Dr Lang said.
“People knew it was happening but did not know all the details – in fact, many thought they were rescuing Africans, saving them and doing good.
“Churches played an important role in beginning to change opinions and make people see what was in front of their eyes in a new way.
“[Newton] began to give people new eyes… but it took a long time to change [their] outlook.”
Dr Lang pointed out that there was a generation – about 40 years – between Newton’s ordination and the Slave Trade Act of 1807 which prohibited the trade in the British Empire.
“[Abolition] was a huge thing to do, it was a massive business and a daunting task to stop it. You couldn’t do it without changing attitudes and he was one of the first to start doing that,” he said.
“He is to be admired because it’s difficult to be in a minority.
“It was a long slow process and he stuck with it.”
Over the past 250 years, Amazing Grace has become an international anthem, inspiring countless stars from Elvis Presley to Aretha Franklin and Andrea Bocelli.
The US Library of Congress holds more than 3,000 published recorded performances by different individual musicians or musical ensembles – but the famous tune came later.
Dr Martin Clark, head of music at the Open University, said: “The tune we now find inseparable from the words, emerged from the USA in the early decades of the 19th Century and has only really come to popularity in Britain within the last 50 years.”
He said he thinks it is the relationship between the words and the music that makes it enduringly popular.
“I think some of the words that it focuses on, ideas about grace and hope and redemption are things that speak to people across time,” he said.
Prof James Walvin, Professor Emeritus in history at the University of York, said the hymn “has an unusually profound significance, both devout and secular”.
“It provides solace in times of stress, hope for the downcast and the prospects of salvation for the needy.
“Few other hymns can claim such importance,” he said.
Amazing Grace – the first verse
Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I’m found
Was blind but now I see.
John Newton, 1773
On New Year’s Day, a special service is being held at the church where it all began.
Led by the Right Reverend Dr Alan Wilson, the Bishop of Buckingham, people from all four churches in the town have chosen hymns to sing as a combined choir.
“It’s going to be quite remarkable,” Mr German said.
“It’s a big thing in Olney… it’s one of the most popular hymns in the world, so it’s only right that we celebrate that.”
The Right Reverend Dr Rose Hudson-Wilkin, Bishop of Dover, who will deliver the Amazing Grace sermon at the event, said it was an “iconic hymn for black people”.
“[That is] pretty strange in the sense that it was written by a white man who himself was involved in the slave trade,” she said, “but somehow he managed to write something that speaks of God in a way that as a black woman, and for many black people, in particular African Americans, they could see that God.”
As well as the service, singers across the world are being encouraged to join the Amazing Grace 250 Big Sing.
The museum has contacted churches, choirs and community groups to ask them to sing it and share their performances on social media.
Paul Collins, who chairs the museum’s board of trustees, said the Cowper and Newton Museum wanted to “reflect the universal appeal of this hymn”.
Craig McLeish, conductor of gospel choir, Sweet Sound, which has been created especially for the Big Sing, said it is a song that is “available to everybody”.
He said: “I just love the fact that it works in so many contexts and everybody has their own take on it and their own personal story – it belongs to us all.”

The Philadelphia Eagles were already dealing with the injury bug coming into their Week 17 matchup against the New Orleans Saints and appeared to take another huge blow.
Josh Sweat, an emerging pass rusher who racked up 11 sacks so far this season, was carried off the field against the Saints on Sunday after he hit his head while trying to wrap up running back Adam Prentice on a tackle in the first quarter of the game.

The fifth-year defensive end leaned headfirst into Prentice’s 6-foot, 245-pound frame and went down. The cart came out for Sweat and he was put on a stretcher and placed onto the back of the vehicle. His Eagles teammates came out onto the field, showing their concern for the defender.
The Eagles said Sweat was transported to the hospital with a neck injury for precautionary measures. The team said he had “movement in all extremities.”

Sweat, 25, has been a big reason why Philadelphia was 13-2 on the year and ranked No. 2 in yards allowed and No. 10 in points allowed on the 2022 season.
Sweat’s 11 sacks were a career high. He also put up career-high numbers in tackles (47), tackles for a loss (15) and QB hits (15). He didn’t earn a trip to the Pro Bowl, though.
