Tennis great Martina Navratilova said Monday that she has been diagnosed with throat cancer and breast cancer.

In a statement released by her representative, the 18-time Grand Slam singles champion and member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame said her prognosis is good and she will start treatment this month.

“This double whammy is serious but still fixable, and I’m hoping for a favorable outcome,” the 66-year-old Navratilova said. “It’s going to stink for a while but I’ll fight with all have I got.”

She said she noticed an enlarged lymph node in her neck while attending the season-ending WTA Finals in Fort Worth, Texas, in November, and a biopsy showed early stage throat cancer. While Navratilova was undergoing tests on her throat, she said, the unrelated breast cancer was discovered.

Navratilova was diagnosed with a noninvasive form of breast cancer in 2010 and had a lumpectomy.

She won 59 Grand Slam titles overall, including 31 in women’s doubles and 10 in mixed doubles. The last was a mixed doubles championship with Bob Bryan at the 2006 U.S. Open, a month shy of her 50th birthday.

Navratilova originally retired in 1994, after a record 167 singles titles and 331 weeks at No. 1 in the WTA rankings. She returned to the tour to play doubles in 2000 and occasionally competed in singles, too.

Navratilova was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2000. She has worked as a TV analyst in recent years.

The statement issued Monday said Navratilova would not be a regular part of Tennis Channel’s coverage of the Australian Open later this month “but hopes to be able to join in from time to time” via video conference.

Nike shows its serious about growing slip-on shoe trend with new Jordan brand easy-entry line

Business Insider

Nike’s Jordan brand’s 23/7 slip-on sneakers

Nike’s Jordan brand on Tuesday unveiled a line of slip-on sneakers for kids.
The market for easy-entry footwear is booming, with numerous brands bringing shoes to market.
Nike’s also an investor in Kizik, a company that makes and licenses hands-free shoe technology.

Nike’s Jordan brand on Monday unveiled its first line of slip-on sneakers for kids.

The collection comes as numerous brands, including venture- and Nike-backed Kizik, look to capitalize on the booming demand for hands-free sneakers.

“Slip-on silhouettes have been all the rage throughout 2022,” Sneaker News wrote last week in reference to a new Adidas shoe.

The new Jordan line, called the 23/7, is designed for easy entry and all-day use. In addition to slip-on entry, it also features an adjustable upper that can be widened.

“Part of why we designed the 23/7 is because we wanted to create a shoe that is an everyday part of a kid’s world,” said Tate Kuerbis, Jordan brand design director for kids footwear, in a news release. “Kids want to get into their shoes quickly to get out and play — this shoe enables them to do just that.”

Kuerbis designed the Air Jordan signature models 18, 19, and 31 through 36.

Nike has been dabbling with easy-entry shoes for years. In 2015, Nike released the FlyEase, a slip-on shoe. In 2017, it held a design contest for a sneaker for athletes with physical limitations. It also sells slip-on versions of its popular Metcon training shoe.

Nike’s an investor in Kizik, a Utah company that makes slip-on sneakers and licenses its technology. The company announced a $20 million Series B round this year. Nike invested in its Series A round and licenses its technology. Kizik recently announced the opening of its first retail store and reported 270% annual sales growth.

“Slip-on sneakers are ready to make a comeback,” according to a recent post about sneaker trends on Glam, a website covering beauty, lifestyle, and fashion.

The Jordan 23/7 line launches on January 16.

Hope Hicks said ‘we all look like domestic terrorists now’ after January 6 and that another White House aide was a ‘genius’ for getting out early

Business Insider

US President Donald Trump poses with former communications director Hope Hicks shortly before making his way to board Marine One on the South Lawn and departing from the White House on March 29, 2018.

Hope Hicks said the Capitol riot made her and other aides “unemployable” and “untouchable.”
Hicks’ texts were among a trove of documents released by the January 6 committee.
Hicks also said Alyssa Farah Griffin was a “genius” for leaving the administration early.

Hope Hicks said she and others in the Trump administration looked like “domestic terrorists” and would be unemployable after the Capitol riot, according to text messages released Sunday by the January 6 committee.

Hicks, who served as White House communications director and a counselor to the president under former President Donald Trump, appeared to have been texting Julie Radford, who served as chief of staff to Ivanka Trump. The text messages were released among a trove of documents related to the committee’s final report.

As the riot at the Capitol unfolded on January 6, 2021, Hicks sent a series of texts lamenting the ramifications the riot may have on their career prospects.

“In one day he ended every future opportunity that doesn’t include speaking engagement at the local proud boys chapter,” she wrote in a text that appeared to reference Trump, adding: “And all of us that didn’t have jobs lined up will be perpetually unemployed.”

“I’m so mad and upset. We all look like domestic terrorists now,” she continued.

Hope Hicks texts from January 6, 2021.

Hicks reiterated she thought they were all “unemployable” and “untouchable” and said Alyssa Farah Griffin was right to get out of the administration early. Farah Griffin, who served as the White House director of strategic communications, resigned in early December 2020, as Trump was pushing the lie that he won the election.

During the Capitol riot, Farah Griffin tweeted at Trump, pleading with him to condemn the attack. The day after, Farah Griffin told Politico she had stepped down because she “saw where this was heading.”

“Not being dramatic, but we are all fucked. Alyssa looks like a genius,” Hicks wrote in a text on January 6.

Farah Griffin went on to become a politics contributor for CNN, and in August 2022 became a co-host of The View.

Hicks left the White House on January 12, 2021, though CNN reported the departure was planned before the riot. It was the second time Hicks had exited the White House, having resigned as communications director in 2018 after acknowledging she had told white lies in her post.

Testimony provided by Hicks was also released recently by the January 6 committee. Hicks said Trump asked her on January 11, 2021, if the Capitol riot was as bad as everyone said and that she told him it was.

“I think he felt like it wasn’t fair — the response to it wasn’t fair,” she said.

[World] Ukraine claims hundreds of Russians killed by missile attack

Footage, apparently from the scene of the attack, was posted by the Ukrainian military

Ukraine says around 400 Russian soldiers have died in a missile attack on the occupied Donetsk region.

Russian officials have contested the figure, admitting to only 63 of their troops being killed in the blast. Neither claim has been verified.

The attack hit a building in the city of Makiivka, where Russian forces were thought to be stationed.

Meanwhile in Kyiv, air raids sounded on Sunday night, as the latest wave of strikes from Russia continued.

In a statement on Monday, Russia’s defence ministry said Ukrainian forces fired six rockets using the US-made Himars rocket system at a building housing Russian troops. Two of them were shot down, it added.

Daniil Bezsonov, a senior Russian-backed official in the occupied parts of Donetsk, earlier said the missile struck Makiivka two minutes after midnight on New Year’s Day.

“A massive blow was dealt to the vocational school,” he said. “There were dead and wounded.”

Although access to Russian-controlled areas is restricted, a number of Russian commentators and bloggers acknowledged the attack – but suggested the numbers were lower than claimed.

Vladimir Solovyov, a Russian presenter, shared a Telegram saying “losses were significant… but not even close” to 400.

But Igor Girkin, a pro-Russian commentator, said hundreds had been killed and wounded, although the exact number was still unknown because of the large number still missing. The building itself was “almost completely destroyed”, he said.

He added that the victims were mainly mobilised troops – that is, recent conscripts, rather than those who chose to fight. He also said ammunition was stored in the same building as the soldiers, making the damage worse.

“Almost all of the military equipment was also destroyed, which stood right next to the building without any disguise whatsoever,” he wrote on Telegram.

Girkin is a well-known military blogger, who led Russian-backed separatists when they occupied of large parts of eastern Ukraine in 2014. He was recently found guilty of murder for his part in the shooting down of flight MH17.

Despite his pro-Russian stance, he regularly criticises the Russian military leadership and their tactics.

According to the Ukrainian military, 300 were wounded in addition to the estimated 400 killed.

Ukraine’s army claims, almost daily, to have killed dozens, sometimes hundreds, of soldiers in attacks, so caution is needed. But if the claims are confirmed, this could be one of the deadliest attacks by Ukraine on Russian targets in the war.

Ukraine has not confirmed the strikes were carried out with Himars missiles, maintaining a long-held strategy of not releasing details about its attacks.

It merely said, sarcastically, that the deaths were the result of “careless handling of heating devices, neglect of safety measures, smoking in an unidentified place”.

The Russian-installed administration said at least 25 rockets were fired at the region overnight on New Year’s Eve.

Hours after the strike in Makiivka, Kyiv came under fire. A drone and missile attack targeted critical infrastructure, the Ukrainian capital’s regional governor Oleksiy Kuleba said.

One man in Kyiv was injured by debris from a destroyed Russian drone, the capital’s mayor added.

Mr Kuleba said the weapons were Iranian-made Shahed drones, adding that they were “targeting critical infrastructure facilities”.

“The main thing now is to stay calm and stay in shelters until the alarm is off,” he said.

All 39 Iranian made drones were eventually shot down by Ukraine, the military said. But Vitaly Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, said energy facilities were damaged, disrupting power and heating supplies.

Russia has been targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure for several months, destroying power stations and plunging millions into darkness during the country’s freezing winter.

Relatives of inmates react outside the prison of Ciudad Juarez number 3 after an attack in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua state, on January 1, 2023. – Gunmen attacked a prison in the northern Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez on Sunday, leaving 14 people dead and allowing 24 inmates to escape, the Chihuahua state prosecutor’s office said. Ten guards and four inmates were killed early Sunday when gunmen in armored vehicles attacked a state prison in Ciudad Juarez across the border from El Paso, Texas, according to state officials.

The Chihuahua state prosecutor’s office said in a statement that around 7 a.m. various armored vehicles arrived at the prison and gunmen opened fire on guards. In addition to those killed, 13 people were wounded and at least 24 inmates escaped.

Mexican soldiers and state police regained control of the prison later Sunday. The state prosecutor’s office said its personnel were investigating.

In August, a riot inside the same state prison spread to the streets of Juarez in violence that left 11 people dead.

In that case, two inmates were killed inside the prison and then alleged gang members started shooting up the town, including killing four employees of a radio station who were doing a promotion at a restaurant.

Violence is frequent in Mexican prisons, including in some where authorities only maintain nominal control. Clashes regularly erupt among inmate of rival gangs, which in places like Juarez serve as proxies for drug cartels.

Shortly before Sunday’s attack on the prison, municipal police were attacked and managed to capture four men after a pursuit, according to the state prosecutor’s office statement. Later, police killed two alleged gunmen traveling in a SUV.

Prince Harry states he wants his father and brother ‘back,’ alleges planting of stories in upcoming interviews

Latest & Breaking News on Fox News

Prince Harry will be sitting down for two tell-all interviews this upcoming weekend.

In one of the sit-downs, the Duke of Sussex states he wants his brother and father “back,” while also alleging stories were planted as he and his wife, Meghan Markle, attempted to step back from royal duties. Both interviews are set to air ahead of the release of his memoir, “Spare,” on Jan. 10.

Harry’s two interviews will premiere on Sunday, Jan. 8, when he will be speaking with ITV’s Tom Bradby as well as Anderson Cooper for his first U.S. interview on “60 Minutes.”

“They’ve shown absolutely no willingness to reconcile,” Harry is seen saying in a promo clip for his ITV interview. “I would like to get my father back. I would like to have my brother back,” he added of King Charles and Prince William

Harry was also shown saying that “they feel as though it is better to keep us somehow as the villains” – though it was not clear who he was referring to.

PRINCE HARRY PLEDGED TO SUPPORT PRINCE WILLIAM BEFORE THEIR FEUD, AUTHOR CLAIMS: ‘THEY WERE INSEPARABLE’

Prince Harry also touched upon leaked stories by the palace in a new one-minute segment shared by CBS News where Cooper is seen asking Prince Harry about his decision to go public as he stepped away from the royal family.

“And every single time I’ve tried to do it privately, there have been briefings and leaking and planting of stories against me and my wife,” Prince Harry is seen answering in the clip.

Harry goes on to state that the palace has meetings with the media where the reporters are “spoonfed information” to then write a story.

MEGHAN MARKLE AND PRINCE HARRY ‘LACK SUBSTANCE AND DETAIL’; DUCHESS ‘NOT THRILLED’ WITH FINAL NETFLIX EDIT

The royal also alleged the palace stated it could not release a statement to “protect” him and his family while doing the opposite for other royal family members.

“There becomes a point when silence is betrayal,” Prince Harry told Cooper.

Harry also made similar bombshell claims about the palace covering for other royal members in the couple’s latest Netflix docuseries, “Harry & Meghan.”

Prince Harry stated he and Markle were victims of “institutional gaslighting” while also alleging the palace was “happy to lie” to protect his brother, Prince William.

15 WAYS MEGHAN MARKLE AND PRINCE HARRY MADE HEADLINES IN 2022

Harry and Meghan’s popularity among the British public has taken a hit since the docuseries was released, with a recent poll by YouGov in the United Kingdom on behalf of The Times finding that almost half of the respondents believe the prince should be stripped of his royal title.

The “tell-all” book is set to hit shelves just two days after Harry’s two interviews.

Royal expert Shannon Felton Spence previously told Fox News Digital that the royal family will be watching the release of his book “closely,” as the contents of the memoir could prove to be detrimental to the family’s reputation.

Tesla To Remove Steering Wheel Nag For Some Full Self-Driving Beta Users

Carscoops

According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, some Full Self-Driving Beta users are getting relief from a somewhat annoying feature this month. That feature is referred to as the steering wheel nag and soon, some FSD Beta users will have the option to turn it off. The change could spark hotter debate about autonomous driving features.

The nag is intended to ensure that drivers are keeping their hands on the steering wheel of a Tesla. The intent is that they’ll be ready to react in the event that they need to. As it sits, it’s far from a perfect system though. Some drivers report that getting the car to recognize their hand on the wheel can sometimes result in accidental disengagement of the car’s autonomous driving features.

A Twitter account under the name Whole Mars Catalog tweeted out to Musk a proposal. “Users with more than 10,000 miles on FSD Beta should be given the option to turn off the steering wheel nag.” Musk himself replied, “Agreed, update coming in Jan.”

More: Over 285,000 Beta Testers Have Bought Tesla’s Full Self-Driving

Users with more than 10,000 miles on FSD Beta should be given the option to turn off the steering wheel nag. @elonmusk

— Whole Mars Catalog (@WholeMarsBlog) December 31, 2022

What exactly the final form of this software update will look like, we don’t know. Will mileage be the only qualifier? Will other features like Tesla Vision be utilized more heavily to ensure that the driver is paying attention and in a position to react if need be? Both could be the case. Nevertheless, traffic safety advocates and regulators are unlikely to love the idea of more FSD Beta users without their hands on the wheel.

Even in a perfect world where this feature is used properly, there are still a few concerns about its implementation. What happens when a Tesla owner who has surpassed the 10,000-mile mark trades in their car for another? Unless their personal FSD history can be moved over to their next vehicle, they’d lose that no-nag feature until they surpassed 10,000 miles again. As of this writing, Tesla doesn’t offer the ability to transfer it to a new vehicle.

In addition, there’s a concern that someone without those miles logged could buy a used Tesla and immediately have access to the feature. Tesla itself often removes paid-for features on the cars that it resells as used but it’s possible to buy from a third party or a private individual without losing FSD Beta access.

One thing we’re confident about though is that whenever this update drops, there will be a number of FSD Beta users with a fresh new incentive to use the software to get to whatever milestones they need to reach to gain access to the ‘no-nag’ steering wheel.

West was the host of “Sports Collectibles” on the Shop at Home Network and later pitched knives to those who shopped from their couch. He was with the network from 1991 to 2001, when he left to start a local sports show in Nashville. By 2002, Jeff Jarrett had offered him a spot in Total Nonstop Action (TNA) as a color commentator alongside Tenay.

TNA was born out of the ashes of WWE’s purchase of its competitor World Championship Wrestling. Jarrett, a longtime WCW member who got his start in WWE, then known as the World Wrestling Federation, founded TNA. The company later rebranded as Impact Wrestling.

Hogan cites his toughest challenges during time as Maryland governor

Just In | The Hill

Outgoing Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) said managing the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2015 riots in Baltimore and his cancer diagnosis were the greatest challenges he faced during his time as governor.

Hogan met with the Washington, D.C.-based Fox affiliate FOX 5 for an interview to reflect on his time as governor as his second term comes to an end, saying the pandemic was probably the “toughest” challenge he faced.

But he said handling the violence that occurred in Baltimore following the killing of Freddie Gray and his battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma were also difficult.

“We had all these plans and things we were going to focus on, turning the economy around, getting Maryland to be more competitive, and we focused on that, but 89 days after being governor, we had the worst violence in 47 years break out in our largest city,” he said.

Hogan sent in 4,000 members of the National Guard and 1,000 police officers to maintain order in Baltimore after the 25-year-old Gray died in police custody as a result of spinal and neck injuries he sustained while being transported in a police van. He later fell into a coma.

The medical examiner ruled Gray’s death a homicide.

The protests initially were overwhelmingly peaceful but turned violent, leading to rioting, looting and damage to the city. A state of emergency was declared and eventually lifted after more than a week.

Hogan said he had only been governor for five months when he was diagnosed with cancer.

“It was pretty bad. This hit me from out of the blue, but I had 40 or 50 tumors all over my body,” he said. “It was about as far as you could get without it being a very difficult situation at stage 4.”

He said he did five or six months of off-and-on chemotherapy, and he kept working through it. He was eventually considered free of the cancer after undergoing the treatment.

Hogan will leave office later this month after two terms as one of the most popular governors in the country, especially as a Republican leading a reliably blue state.

He said he is satisfied with what he accomplished as governor and “left it all on the field.”

“It’s not like we solved every single problem that was out there, but I feel a sense of satisfaction that we actually got a lot of things done that we said we were going to do,” he said.

Democrat Wes Moore will take over the governor’s mansion on Jan. 18.
