Swiss first class awards now bookable with United miles, but there’s a catch

The Points Guy

If you’ve dreamed of flying in Swiss’ highly-rated first class, we have good news.

Related: Swiss Perfection: A Review of Swiss First Class on Its Flagship Boeing 777-300ER

Flying first class on Swiss typically requires paying cash or holding elite status with Miles & More from Lufthansa Group (which owns Swiss) for the privilege of booking a first-class ticket using miles.

But now, United MileagePlus members can book Swiss first class award tickets. That said, there are some big caveats you should be aware of. This news was first reported by Live and Let’s Fly.

How to book Swiss first class with United miles

The biggest thing to know about booking Swiss first class award tickets with United miles is that they’re only bookable within three days of departure. In turn, you can only use this for last-minute award tickets.

Additionally, only connecting itineraries show first class awards on United’s website. You can’t book a flight directly from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Geneva Airport (GVA) as a Swiss first class award. However, you can book JFK to Munich International Airport (MUC) via GVA. The JFK-GVA flight would be in the Swiss first-class cabin, with the second flight in business class since there’s no first class cabin on that flight.

UNITED.COM

This example award costs 121,000 United miles, plus $32.60 in taxes and fees.

Right now, Swiss first class awards are not showing on other Star Alliance partner websites such as Air Canada Aeroplan or Avianca LifeMiles.

Caution: We’ve seen this before with sad news in the end

It’s also worth pointing out that, over the past five years, we’ve seen Swiss first class become available for brief periods using partner miles. On some occasions, Swiss canceled those bookings, claiming it was a mistake.

Until now, the only guaranteed way to book Swiss first class with partner miles has been the airline’s three-hour flight between São Paulo-Guarulhos (GRU) and Buenos Aires-Ezeiza (EZE).

UNITED.COM

This route is a continuation of the route between São Paulo and Zurich and is open to partner award bookings regularly. It doesn’t require booking only a few days in advance.

Finally, there’s no guarantee that this isn’t a glitch on United’s website. These awards could go away at any time, so book quickly if you see something you want to fly.

Bottom line

If you’re flexible and longing to try Swiss first class, you can book it using United miles — at least for now. Just remember that you can only book connecting tickets and you must book within three days of departure. But even then, award space can be tough to come by.

The Polestar 3 Will Be The First Car On Earth To Use Google’s New HD Driving Maps

Carscoops

Volvo and Polestar announced today at CES that they will be the first automakers to introduce Google’s new high-definition mapping technology to their vehicles. Starting with the Polestar 3, the automakers claim that the technology will improve advanced driver assistance technologies.

“Building on our long history of mapping the world, Google’s new HD map is designed specifically for automakers and provides comprehensive lane-level and localization data that is crucial to powering the next generation of assisted and autonomous driving systems,” said Jorgen Behrens, VP of Geo Automotive, Google.

After the Polestar 3, the new Google technology will also be found in the upcoming Volvo EX90. Thanks to HD maps’ high precision data, featuring details like road signs and lane markings, the technology will help the automakers develop better advanced driver assistance functions.

Specifically, Volvo says that the technology will help features like lane change assistance and its Pilot Assist technology. Looking forward, the HD maps will be an important tool in the rollout of autonomous driving technologies.

While onboard LiDAR and radar sensors, as well as cameras will help Volvo and Polestar’s coming vehicles navigate their immediate surroundings, the detailed data provided by Google’s HD maps will help vehicles prepare for what’s farther down the road.

“The addition of Google HD Maps in our future car line-up marks an expansion of our strategic collaboration with Google, reflecting our commitment to work with technology leaders,” says Javier Varela, Volvo’s COO and Deputy CEO. “Implementing Google HD Maps in our upcoming cars will help us offer our drivers a more enjoyable driving experience and in future contribute to the introduction of safe autonomous driving.”

Elsewhere, Polestar announced today that it will now begin rolling out remote actions through Google Assistant on the Polestar 2. With that, the EV’s owners will be able to use any device with Google Assistant capabilities to check their vehicle’s battery status, unlock doors, or start warming up their cabin, among other features.

“These developments are the direct result of our strong relationship with Google and show the advantages of integrating the innovative Android Automotive OS in our cars,” said Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath .

Is the Elliptical Out of Style? Here’s What Happened to the ’90s Cardio Craze

Well+Good

When the elliptical machine first hit the fitness scene in the 1990s, it was all the rage. But over the last few years, more attention has gone to flashier, higher-tech options with touch-screens and built-in instructions (think: Mirror and Tonal). And at-home fitness pioneers like Peloton have bypassed the elliptical entirely in favor of the bike, treadmill, and rower.

But are ellipticals actually less popular than they once were, or are they just getting less PR?

The short answer is no, elliptical users have not jumped ship. Elliptical machines are in as high demand as they have ever been, according to certified personal trainer Chris Freytag, founder of GetHealthyUTV.com and former manager of a Minnesota-based gym. “There are as many people using the elliptical at the gym as there are people using the treadmill,” she says, noting that the two machines are tied for gold.

The data on gym equipment sales echoes these sentiments. In 2020, treadmills were the only gym purchase that earned more money than ellipticals, raking in $1.535 billion compared to ellipticals’ $927 million. In comparison, exercise bikes and rowing machines brought in $789 million and $135.4 million, respectively. Further, in 2021, wholesale elliptical sales brought in $969 million, the highest number since 2007, suggesting the machine is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Yes, there are benefits of using the elliptical

Why are people still using the elliptical? Simply put, it can help us effectively and safely achieve our fitness goals.

Given that it’s a cardio machine, it should come as no surprise that the elliptical’s main claim to fame is that it ramps up your heart rate. “Using the elliptical can improve your cardiorespiratory health, which is the health of your heart, lungs, and blood vessels,” says exercise physiologist and certified strength and conditioning coach Sharon Gam, PhD, CSCS. “Over time, this can help protect against chronic disease and support a long and healthy life,” she says.

The elliptical can also be used to build muscular endurance—the capacity for your muscles to keep working over a long period of time—in lower body muscles like the glutes, hamstrings, quads, calves, says Gam. If your elliptical machine has handles (and you use them!), it can also build strength throughout your back, shoulders, biceps, triceps, and grip muscles. Improving muscular endurance on the machine prolongs your stamina during day-to-day activities and adventures, she says.

Okay, so how does the elliptical compare to other cardio machines?

Most of the other machines in the cardio room (treadmill, stairmaster, stationary bike, etc) will get your heart rate up and can work similar muscles to the ones the elliptical works, says Gam. “So really, which you use should come down to personal preference and what feels best for your particular body,” she says. After all, staying healthy and fit throughout your life is about finding a routine that you can stick with.

That said, the elliptical is generally a better option for people with pre-existing knee, hip, or ankle injuries, according to Freytag. “The elliptical is gentle on your joints,” she says. There is no pounding or jumping associated with each stroke or stride, as there is with the treadmill, ski erg, or stairmaster.

But to be clear: While the elliptical is lower impact compared to other machines, that does not mean it is necessarily lower intensity. You can still go hard on the machine, and use the incline, decline, and resistance functions to get in a serious sweat, says Freytag.

While form is important across cardio machines, ellipticals are generally easier to master compared to a machine like the rower or ski erg, according to Freytag. Indeed, ellipticals are even easier to use than stationary bikes, which require users to understand which seat and handlebar height is safest for their individual height and limb dimensions, she says. This means ellipticals tend to be a better option for someone who is new to machines, and for people who will be using their machines at home without the supervision of a fitness professional.

Finally, the elliptical is also a good option for anyone who might be… *technologically challenged*. While there are higher tech elliptical options on the market, they tend to be an easier machine to operate compared to something like the Mirror or Peloton, which often require a moderate knowledge of touch screens.

The bottom line on ellipticals

These babies are not only as popular now as they were three decades ago—market sales show they’re more popular. As Freytag puts it, “Ellipticals are a worthy piece of cardiovascular equipment that have proven themselves time and time again.”

So, if your fitness routine needs a little zhuzhing up, or you’re looking for a kind-to-your-joints, easy-to-use, cardio-building addition to your exercise routine, consider hopping on an elliptical. It may not be the buzziest machine on the gym floor, but it’s a tried-and-true standby that’s not going anywhere.

Want to add an elliptical to your home gym? Here are 3 options:

Bowflex Max Trainer M9 — $1,699.00

Originally $1999, currently on sale for $1699, or $95/month

The interactive console requires a membership, but it will keep your pedal sessions spicy. Every purchase comes with a one-year free trial.

ProForm Carbon HIIT H10 — $1,403.00

Or $39/month

This elliptical comes with thousands of studio classes where the equipment automatically adjusts for you, changing the resistance as you go.

Schwinn 430 Elliptical — $800.00

Originally $900, currently on sale for $800

If you’re just looking for the basics (at a lower cost), this model doesn’t have interactive classes, but it is a beginner-friendly option.

The Dark Empath Personality Merges Empathy With Dark Triad Traits—And That Spells Big Trouble

Well+Good

When it comes to personality types and traits, there are two takeaways that run along a parallel path. First up is to proceed with caution when interacting with folks who exhibit the dark triad cluster of personality traits: Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and narcissism. Second is that empaths are the opposite of narcissists in that they are healers who absorb the emotions of others in a benevolent, loving way. But according to recent research published in Personality and Individual Differences, those two learnings can be melded in a singular personality type. Say hello to the dark empath, who mixes the traits of the dark triad with an ability to understand others’ emotions. A master manipulator, the dark empath might be the most dangerous personality type there is.

What is a dark empath?

While it’s common knowledge that avoiding dark triad energy vampires is wise, a dark empath is different. This type of person doesn’t drain human energy the way a typical narcissist might; rather, they just brood while caring about others’ feelings. A dark empath is someone who has difficulty with emotional empathy, says Sanam Hafeez, PsyD, a New York City-based neuropsychologist and director of Comprehend the Mind. In other words, they can’t feel the emotions of another person. She adds that dark empathy is not a diagnosable mental health condition, but rather a personality trait.

Here’s the kicker: while a dark empath doesn’t emotionally connect with someone else’s feelings, they do identify the other person’s viewpoint and use that to their advantage. “A dark empath uses the emotions another person exhibits and turns that into manipulation,” says Dr. Hafeez. “The dark empath will guilt trip you into thinking you’re at fault for something you’re not. They often crave attention but do not gain pleasure from social rewards and desire to have a sense of power.”

What makes a dark empath so dangerous?

According to mental health professionals, the dark empath might be more emotionally hazardous to folks than those with other dark triad personality types. “A dark empath may actually be more dangerous than a more cold and unfeeling dark triad type, because the so-called dark empath can draw you in closer—and do more harm as a result,” says Ramani Durvasula, PhD, clinical psychologist and author of “Don’t You Know Who I Am?”: How To Stay Sane in an Era of Narcissism, Entitlement, and Incivility. “The closer you are to someone, the more you can hurt them.”

For Dr. Durvasula, the term “dark empath” itself doesn’t sit well in describing its potential for emotional destruction, largely because of its use of the word “empath.” By her definition, genuine empathy must have an intrinsic emotional and prosocial element. For example, it would mean that hearing someone else’s pain makes you want to help them, and hearing someone’s joy makes you want to support them. This empathy is void of malevolence. Such is not the case, though, with the empathetic quality associated with dark empaths. What these folks seem to experience is more so cognitive empathy, or being able to understand someone’s emotional state, but not necessarily connecting to it in a way that propels an emotional, prosocial output.

“The way the term is being used in the ‘dark empath’ variant is as manipulation,” Dr. Durvasula says. “It’s giving a surgical, almost razor-precision focus on another person to understand what makes them tick with the goal of almost mining data that could be used to the advantage of the dark empath.” Mirrored empathy can put the other person at ease, and they “may relax and [become] putty in the hands” of the dark empath.

What are the most common dark empath traits to look out for?

1. They’re extroverted, agreeable, and neurotic

So since the general consensus is that dark empaths are bad news, how can we spot them in order to take note and steer clear? Well, when researchers surveyed 991 participants and measured their traits using the Big Five model of personality traits, they found dark empaths to be more extroverted, agreeable, and neurotic than their companions in the dark triad. Based on these data points, it’s not hard to see how they’d relate to others more than your garden variety self-absorbed narcissist.

2. They have a malicious humor

The tradeoff is that dark empaths were found to have higher degrees of malicious humor, a term that refers to laughing at someone (and often groups) you think is beneath you. Dr. Hafeez adds that a dark empath’s biting humor and sarcastic commentary are indirect ways they affect, bully, and belittle others.

3. They gaslight and guilt trip others

Dark empaths also rate higher when it comes to guilt induction, or being able to guilt others. Along with guilt-tripping, gaslighting is another manipulative dark empath trait. “They will use these tactics to continue staying in control,” Dr. Hafeez says. “Dark empaths have no emotion as to how the other person feels and will twist the scenario around to work in their favor. If the ‘victim’ catches on to the dark empath’s tactics, the latter will likely question your sanity instead of taking accountability.”

4. They use other people

Using other people for personal gain is another manipulative tactic dark empaths employ. “Since dark empaths have the ability to read people so well, they sense what others need and play the complementary role to satisfy their own personal agenda,” Dr. Hafeez says.

5. They fake sincerity

Dark empaths are pros at faking sincerity as a way to mask their manipulative motives. Although a dark empath’s emotions may come off as empathetic, Dr. Hafeez says there is always a lack of genuineness in their expression, so don’t be fooled.

How do I recognize and deal with a dark empath in my relationships?

Dark empaths exhibit all the above traits in their relationships. On the surface, you’ll see their connected, extroverted nature. They’ll come off as understanding and agreeable. However, Dr. Hafeez says these traits serve as distractions to their aforementioned dark traits of malicious humor, gaslighting, guilt-tripping, and maintaining emotional distance from others.

In other words, you have to really read between the lines when it comes to spotting dark empaths in relationships. “Their sense of control and self-absorption bring dark empaths joy and others pain, however, these manipulation tactics do not come off as obvious as a narcissist’s manipulative tactics,” Dr. Hafeez says.

If you do spot the signs, Dr. Hafeez advises not letting them emotionally manipulate you, and if the relationship is not in a healthy place, it may be best to distance yourself.

FAQs: What else do I need to know about dark empaths?

How common are dark empaths?

Dr. Hafeez says this is a tricky thing to quantify since it’s a relatively new term and because being a dark empath is not necessarily a trait you’re born with. Rather, she says it’s a mix of experience, biological makeup, and character, making it difficult to put a number to how common the dark empath traits are in a person.

Do dark empaths have a conscience?

Dark empaths do have a conscience but it’s ultimately up to them whether they pay attention to it or not. “Dark empaths may identify what one is going through and choose not to feel sympathy or any desire to assist,” Dr. Hafeez says. “This can give them an advantage, as they can either listen to their conscience and do good or use their skills to get what they want without remorse.”

Are people with dark triad traits a lost cause?

“They are a difficult cause,” Dr. Hafeez says. In order to change, they must first recognize themselves as someone within this personality group and be willing to undergo intensive therapy. The reason, she says, is because dealing with and understanding the three traits that make up the dark triad is challenging for a professional in the mental health field, let alone a lay person.

Is a dark empath more dangerous than a psychopath?

Generally, a psychopath is more physically dangerous, Dr. Hafeez says, while a dark empath is more emotionally dangerous but typically won’t cause bodily harm to others. She adds that the psychology field is still researching to better understand the difference between the two, but one point of differentiation is that a psychopath can’t understand the feelings or thoughts of others, while a dark empath can and uses that information to manipulate others.

How do you know if you’re a dark empath?

Dr. Hafeez recommends asking yourself if you exhibit the telltale traits of a dark empath such as being extroverted and charming, being in tune with the experiences of others yet feeling emotionally detached, and behaving vindictively (e.g. emotionally manipulating, bullying, gossiping, gaslighting, ghosting, love-bombing, or playing the victim). While there is no official dark empath test, there is a dark triad personality test you can take online for informational purposes. However, if you’re truly concerned you may fit the personality type, Dr. Hafeez says it’s best to find a licensed therapist qualified to administer and analyze the findings.

I Rubbed Frozen Aloe Vera on My Face Every Morning for a Week, and It Gave My Pricey Skin-Care Products Some Serious Competition

Well+Good

TikTok will have you putting some wild stuff on your body. From conditioning your hair with onion water to using lube as a makeup primer, the possibilities are seemingly endless… and often very unappealing. But when I saw beauty influencer Jaclyn Hill share that she rubs homemade frozen aloe vera on her face every day, I thought to myself: “That’s a DIY hack I’d actually be willing to try.” Aloe is a tried-and-true skin-care ingredient, so I knew that this wouldn’t hurt. And according to Ivy Lee, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in Pasadena, California, it could actually be beneficial.

“It’s probably incredibly hydrating, and, especially when you have it cool, incredibly soothing,” says Dr. Lee. “That’s why we’ve used aloe for eons for post-sunburn relief. I can see the chilled aspect and the benefits of aloe vera being a hydrating, relaxing addition to your morning routine.”

So, I decided to give it a try. For one week, I committed to rubbing frozen aloe vera on my face every morning to kickstart my day. Here’s how it went.

How to make frozen aloe vera

To make frozen aloe vera, I followed the steps Hill demonstrates in this video:

@jacattack Easy peasy guys! #fyp #aloevera #beauty #skincare #skincareroutine #MadewithKAContest ♬ original sound – Jaclynhill

1. Secure an aloe leaf

This hack works best with fresh aloe, which means you need a leaf. I picked up a big leaf at my local grocery store, but you can also use cuttings from an aloe vera plant.

2. Cut the leaf

To get to the goo on the inside of the leaf, start by trimming off all the pointy edges. Then, once the sides are off, you can see the aloe gel inside. To get that off, lay the leaf flat on the table, and apply a bit of pressure to the top of it. Keep your knife parallel to the table, and slice the leaf in half longways (or, in elementary school terms, “hotdog style”). This will leave you with two sides that each have a hard green shell and a soft gooey inside.

3. Scrape out the gel

Using a big metal spoon, scrape out every last bit of gel from the leaf into a pile.

4. Place the gel in a blender

Next, pick up the goo and place it in the blender. For me, this was the worst step—it felt like the world’s largest pile of mucus. But I tried to think of it as nature’s skin-hydrating mucus, which made this part of the process slightly less terrible.

5. Add water and blend

Add a splash of cold water to the aloe and then blend it until mixed. It should get super foamy.

6. Let it sit for 20 minutes

To give the foam a chance to settle down, take the top off of your blender and let the mixture settle for about 20 minutes.

8. Pour it into your mold

For this step, Hill used plastic ice pop molds ($15). This is, undoubtedly, the best option because it gives you a handle to hold on to while you swipe the frozen aloe vera across your face. If you’re like me and don’t want to commit to getting the molds, you can make freeze your aloe in a regular ice cube tray. Just know that your fingers will be very cold when you apply the gel.

Wyok Popsicle Mold Set — $15.00

What it was like rubbing frozen aloe vera cubes on my face every morning

Hill rubs frozen aloe on her face at night, and at first, that’s what I also wanted to do. It seemed like a soothing step to take before bed, but I couldn’t commit. My morning skin-care routine is where I put most of my energy, and hyping myself up to rub cold aloe on my face when I was sleepy was just not happening. Once I switched to a.m. application, though, it clicked—I finally understood why Hill and so many others on TikTok love this hack. It feels so, so, so good, and is the perfect way to wake up my skin.

Hill’s method involves rubbing the aloe on her face until the popsicle fully melts, dabbing with a towel when the aloe gets too drippy. I tried this and my skin was not into it. Layering on so much aloe made my skin a bit itchy. The sensation went away, but I still didn’t enjoy it. Next time, I kept it light, rubbing the ice cube on my face for about a minute, enjoying the cool sensation all over my face. Even with less aloe, there was just so much left on my face. I didn’t want to just dab it away, so I reached for my reusable silicone mask ($19) from Experiment Beauty to use the aloe like a sheet mask.

Experiment Beauty Avant Guard — $19.00

I stuck with this method for the rest of the week, wearing my DIY sheet mask for 10 to 20 minutes while I made my latte, styled my hair, and puttered around. Once I took off the mask and rinsed it off, I sat down at my vanity and was able to pat the aloe into my skin. With my skin still damp, I continued with the rest of my skin-care routine.

The verdict: although making frozen aloe vera and rubbing it on my face felt extremely extra, I came to love it. It helped to perk me up and made my skin look dewy and radiant. If you also have dry skin, are looking to calm an irritated complexion, or just want to play with a new beauty hack, try this out ASAP.

First Production 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV Could Sell For Millions

Carscoops

The GMC Hummer EV is an incredibly advanced flagship pickup truck. Now, a couple of years after its release, GMC is beginning production of the three-row SUV variant and the very first one is going up for auction at Barrett Jackson. It could end up selling for millions just like its pickup truck sibling did back in March of 2021.

That very first GMC Hummer EV truck with VIN 001 sold for $2.5 million and the proceeds benefited the Stephen Siller Tunnels to Towers Foundation. The proceeds of the sale of Hummer EV SUV VIN 001 will benefit Tread Lightly Inc. The firm leads a national initiative to “protect and enhance recreation access by promoting outdoor ethics to heighten good stewardship.”

That’s certainly a good cause and the 2024 Hummer EV SUV promises to be just as epic of a vehicle as its bed-laden brethren. It leverages three electric motors to provide a total of 830 hp across all four wheels. Just like the pickup, this SUV features four-wheel steering and a unique ‘Crab Walk’ setting to help it navigate out of tricky situations off road.

More: Mengshi’s 1,000HP M-Terrain EV Could Become China’s Answer To The GMC Hummer EV

This particular Hummer EV SUV is part of the Edition 1 trim which GMC has priced with an MSRP of $105,595. Clearly, it’s going to go for quite a bit more than that and we wouldn’t be totally shocked to see it eclipse the price of the first Hummer EV pickup due to inflation and other factors.

Interestingly, this Hummer isn’t the most expensive trim level that GMC is building. One step above it is the Edition 1 with the available Extreme Off-Road Package. That version will start at $110,595 and adds 18-inch wheels, 35-inch mud-terrain tires, rock sliders, under-body armor, heavy-duty ball-spline half shafts, underbody camera views and more.

GMC will auction off the build slot on January 28th at the Barrett-Jackson collector car auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. Presumably, the new owner can add whatever they want once the deal is done. We can’t wait to see what it goes for.

What’s The Best New Kia In Terms Of Bang For The Buck Today?

Carscoops

There are a lot of great cars out there today but finding a good value is considerably harder. That’s one reason that of all the brands out there we framed this QOTD around Kia. Many of their vehicles intend to offer great bang for your buck but which one is best?

Basically, the entire lineup offers the same excellent 10-year powertrain warranty in combination with a five-year limited warranty so that aspect won’t play too much of a role here. What’s different is what you think of as the most value for your money.

Kia offers everything from the huge family-friendly Carnival minivan to the going-out-of-production Stinger GT sports sedan. It also sells the seemingly timeless Soul subcompact starting at under $20k and the dapper-looking Telluride SUV starting at $35,690.

Read: These Are The Most And Least Satisfying Cars, According To Owners

Those who want an electrified powertrain can get it too. The Niro, which we drove late last year, is a great little car and comes in three flavors of electrification. The Sportage and Sorento also feature hybrid powertrains and we haven’t even talked about the EV6 yet.

While the EV6 might be the second-most expensive Kia on offer, it’s one of the most well-rounded in its class. We liked the regular version that we drove around this time last year and we loved the extremely fast EV6 GT that we drove in Las Vegas just about a month ago. For about $61k it’ll embarrass supercar owners who don’t know how to launch their cars.

In fact, if we had to pick one ourselves, it would probably be the EV6 GT or the Stinger GT Tribute Edition since each will likely hold its value fairly well. Across the entire lineup though, these cars tend to punch above their weight in terms of quality, comfort, and styling. So which of the group do you think is the best bang for the buck? 10 of the brand’s cars start at under $30k which already gives them a leg up on competitors that start at much higher figures.

This Affordable Rolling Rack From Amazon Helped Me Streamline My Home Gym—And It’s 25% Off Now

Well+Good

When I moved into my new home in July, one of the things I was most excited about was my expansive utility room, which housed my washer and dryer, extra fridge and freezer, and seemed like the perfect place to set up my first-ever home gym. After years of fitness experimentation and being a health and fitness writer, I had accumulated an awful lot of equipment, ranging from jump ropes, resistance bands, and yoga mats, to trendy Bala Bangles, dumbbells, and boxing gloves.

When I first moved in, I kept my gym equipment in the same, large woven baskets from HomeGoods that I previously had in my apartment, leaving me to dig through a pile of stuff to find what I needed when I needed it. In my apartment, that storage method worked well given the tighter parameters, but in a room with much more space, I wanted to spread everything out so that I could clearly see what I had. After a few Google searches, I settled on the Mythinglogic Home Gym Storage Rack ($120), which has over 500 5-star reviews.

Mythinglogic, Home Gym Storage Rack — $120.00

Originally $160, now $120

Available in black or white.

The Mythinglogic Home Gym Storage Rack is sold in black and white (I got black) and features three metal mesh shelves, three sets of hooks, and a back and side compartment for yoga mats, foam rollers, and other larger items. The rack, which requires simple assembly, sits atop four 360-degree wheels, two of which are lockable, so you can move it around your space should you need to. Personally, I like to keep mine next to my wall, but sometimes I’ll roll it over to my matted area if I want my equipment closer during workouts.

While the storage rack itself is very lightweight, it’s quite sturdy and able to withstand ample weight (though, a specific weight limit isn’t listed.) I’ve filled mine to the brim with 54 pounds of dumbbells, a 10-pound Bala Power Ring, eight pounds of Bala Bangles, two yoga mats, a foam roller, and two little plastic bins filled with various ropes and bands, as well as the chonky extension cord to my Higher Dose Infrared Sauna Blanket ($599). Point being, she’s weighed down, but still rolls around smoothly.

Photo: Rebecca Norris

From a size perspective, this cart has a footprint of 40.4”(L) x 15.7”(W) x 34.3”(H). In that way, it’s rather compact, despite holding so much. To say that I’m a fan is an absolute understatement. It’s a huge step up from my woven baskets, keeping everything neat, tidy, and accessible mid sweat sesh.

I’m not the only one who loves this simple storage rack. A quick scroll through more than 500 Amazon reviews will prove it’s worth the purchase. “I am a personal trainer and have a lot of equipment,” one shopper reveals. “I teach many classes and clients virtually. My stuff was all over the place. Now I finally have a place to keep everything! I was able to store a Gymboss timer, two mats, four foam rollers, a yoga ball, a yoga block, four sets of dumbbells, seven kettlebells, a yoga strap, two long resistance bands, a jump rope, a TRX, a buddy trainer, push-up assisters, a bag of small loop resistance bands, a resistance tube with handles, my attendance/workout book, my Macbook Pro, and a pump for my Bosu and large stability ball… LOVE this thing and it was really easy to put together!”

“I’m very happy with this rack,” another shopper reveals. “It was well-priced and easy to set up. I managed to organize all my yoga gear and weights, and my exercise space is now so much more manageable and tidy. Recommended.”

The best part? Right now, the Mythinglogic Home Gym Storage Rack is on sale for $120 (normally $160). Trust me—your home gym will never look or feel better. Add one to your Amazon cart here to finally tidy-up your workout space.

JetBlue boosts London network with all-new daytime flight from New York

The Points Guy

If you want to eat breakfast in New York and have supper in London, JetBlue has a new option for you.

The New York-based carrier announced on Thursday that it’s adding an all-new daytime flight from New York to London, launching on March 25, 2023.

The flight will leave John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) at 8:30 a.m. local time, and arrive at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) at 8:45 p.m. The westbound service will leave at 8:25 a.m. and arrive at 11:40 a.m.

This new daytime flight will give travelers the option to spend an entire day working or enjoying entertainment on JetBlue’s swanky Airbus A321LR before landing in London for a full night of sleep.

Traditionally, airlines operate eastbound transatlantic service at night — leaving the U.S. at night and arriving the following morning in Europe.

While these red-eye flights give business travelers the ability to work a full day in both cities, it comes at the expense of sleep — many flights from the Northeast U.S. to London take around six hours.

Even if you decline meal service on a red-eye flight, you’re only getting around four to five hours of uninterrupted sleep.

Here at TPG, many of our reporters are big fans of the eastbound daytime flights to London. Perhaps the biggest downside is that there are limited connecting opportunities when arriving in London at night.

JetBlue‘s new daytime service will go up against existing daytime flights from the New York City area operated by American, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and United.

JetBlue’s new flight is enabled by a slot pair that the airline acquired specifically for the late-night arrival and early-morning departure at Heathrow. One slot provides an airline with a landing or takeoff spot, while a slot pair is needed to operate one round-trip flight.

It wasn’t immediately clear how JetBlue acquired these slots, especially considering that a slot at Heathrow can go for as much as $70 million dollars. When JetBlue first launched flights to London, it was operating with temporary slots acquired during the demand downturn associated with the pandemic.

Last summer, the airline picked up permanent slots at Heathrow, and now it appears that the airline has secured another pair.

While JetBlue is adding a new transatlantic service, it comes at the expense of one of the airline’s daily flights from JFK to London Gatwick Airport (LGW).

You’ll find JetBlue’s full summer 2023 London schedule at the bottom of this post.

In addition to the New York service, JetBlue launched flights from Boston to the U.K. last year, and there are no changes to those two daily flights.

JetBlue’s transatlantic network is also growing later this year, with the addition of flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG). The airline hasn’t yet published a schedule or introductory pricing for Paris, aside from confirming that the route will launch first from JFK this summer, followed shortly thereafter with flights from Boston.

Nearly all of JetBlue’s transatlantic flights are operated by the Airbus A321LR, or long-range, aircraft. The jet is outfitted with two Mint Studios, 22 Mint suites and 114 economy seats, 24 of which are in an extra-legroom Even More Space configuration.

While some travelers may prefer a wide-body plane for transatlantic flights, JetBlue‘s single-aisle Airbus jets boast a bunch of amenities. The airline offers an extensive collection of movies, TV shows, live TV and other entertainment options, along with free, high-speed Wi-Fi, tasty meals and even a walk-up pantry bar.

YangWang U9 Is A $145,000 Electric Supercar From China That Hits 60 In 2.0 Sec

Carscoops

During the presentation of the U8 electric off-roader, YangWang, BYD’s newly launched luxury EV brand, had a surprise for us in the form of the U9 battery-powered supercar.

The upcoming performance model incorporates the brand’s “Gate of Time and Space” design language. It has a low-slung silhouette with two doors and complex aero components. At the front, the C-shaped LED headlights are quite large, hugging the F1-style nose in combination with the vents on the pronounced fenders. The splitter has integrated fins and yellow accents just like the side skirts and the rear diffuser.

Black elements around the bodywork like the ones next to the side air intakes create a duo-tone finish, contrasting the bright yellow shade. Another highlight is the transparent fin sticking out of the vented rear windshield that looks like a Lamborghini engine cover. The inlets below the full-width LED taillights are a typical design trait of supercars but in Yangwang’s case, they appear to be blocked.

The Yangwang U9 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in a claimed 2 seconds flat which is only 0.1 seconds slower than the rival Aion Hyper SSR from GAC. BYD didn’t reveal the power output but confirmed it will be equipped with the “Yisifang” tech for its quad motor setup. This will be a shared feature among all Yangwang models, with the independently controlled electric motors allowing sophisticated torque vectoring functions.

In the Yangwang U8 off-roader, each of the four electric motors produces 295-322 hp (220-240 kW / 299-326 PS) and 320-420 Nm (236-310 lb-ft) of torque, which means that the combined output is over 1,100 hp (820 kW / 1,115 PS). That sounds more than enough to endow the lighter and more aerodynamic supercar with mind-blowing performance. In the U8, the “Yisifang” system offered crab walk and tank turn capabilities but in the road-focused U9, it could introduce different functions aimed at improving handling and performance.

Interestingly, BYD’s Yangwang U9 is not a concept but a production vehicle. When it launches in China, it will be priced over ¥1,000,000 ($145,340). This puts it right against GAC’s Aion Hyper Hyper SSR which starts from ¥1,286,000 ($186,870).
