What’s Not To Like About This Color-Shifting 2021 McLaren Elva?

Carscoops

A glorious 2021 McLaren Elva is expected to sell for between $1.8 million and $2.4 million when it will hit the auction block by RM Sotheby’s in November.

McLaren only ever built 149 examples of the Elva and this particular example is number 122. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this Elva. Mecum Auctions listed it for sale at last year’s Monterey Car Week and had expected it to sell for $2.75 million. However, it doesn’t appear as though it was sold.

Making this Elva special is that it is painted in Pacific Colour Stream, a complex iridescent color-shift paint that includes tones of Magenta, Violet, and Blue. The paint was a $37,898 option and has been perfectly complemented by a set of purple brake calipers that were a $4,950 option.

The cabin of the Elva is also special. In addition to the Pacific Colour Stream paint adorning the transmission tunnel, the cabin includes purple contrast stitching on the black leather seats. A purple 12 o’clock accent is also found on the steering wheel as are a host of gloss carbon fiber accents on the door panels, instrument cluster, and dashboard.

RM Sotheby’s notes that the Elva in question has been driven just 93 miles (149 km) from new and was delivered new to McLaren Charlotte in North Carolina. It includes the original window sticker and would be a fitting addition to even the most exclusive and comprehensive car collection.

Underpinning the Elva is a lightweight carbon fiber monocoque while power comes through a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged with 804 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. This grunt is fed to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Arkansas Police Pit Harley-Davidson And Send It Into The Air

Carscoops

Some motorcycles are so fast that law enforcement officers won’t even chase them. Cruiser bikes like Harley-Davidsons aren’t typically so quick though and in the case of the fleeing suspect in the following video, it was far from fast enough to keep him out of jail. Instead, the pursuing Arkansas State Trooper tapped him just hard enough to cause a complete loss of contact with the ground.

This chase took place in the far southwest corner of Arkansas and then moved into Texas as the motorcycle rider tried everything they could to escape. According to the report in the video description, multiple calls led ASP Trooper Cullen Young to the bike in question. Other road users said the rider was “flipping people off, braking hard in front of people,” and “trying to get run over.”

The motorcyclist was traveling at 78 mph (125 km/h) in a 65 mph (105 km/h) construction zone when the Trooper first spotted him so a traffic stop was initiated. The rider, who police later found to be David Roark, pulled over. Then, as the trooper approached the motorcycle, Roark sped away. That tactic has certainly worked in the past with the Arkansas State Police but not here.

More: Sweet Instant Karma As Hit-And-Run Driver Meets The Law

Despite other strategies employed by Roark like speeding above 100 mph (160 km/h) and driving the wrong way on the interstate, officers always retained sight of him. In fact, Roark went as far as to pass a semi-truck on the grass to escape but to no avail. Then, as he used exit 213 and began to turn right, Trooper Young bumped the back of the bike, specifically the saddle bag, and the chase came to a halt.

Of course, it only did so because the tap from the trooper led Roark to lose control of the bike and jump the curb. As he did, the bike somersaulted end over end, throwing Roark from the Harley and into the grass below. Officers found a handgun on him and said he admitted to taking drugs before the ride.

An ambulance took Roark to the hospital to attend to his injuries. They do not appear to be life-threatening.

This 1949 MG Has Covered Just 833 Miles Since New

Carscoops

MG is back in the sports car business this year thanks to the launch of the Cyberster electric roadster. But the fact that it’s electric and made in China, rather than in the classic Abingdon factory that closed in 1980, means some fans will still be wishing they could somehow go back in time and buy a brand new ‘real’ MG. Well, this is their chance.

Okay, so this 1949 MG TC isn’t completely unused. But it’s the next best ting, having covered an incredible 833 miles (1,341 km) from new. That works out at 11 miles (18 km) for each of the 74 years it’s been around. Sure, you could buy a restored car, and it will look even more perfect, but as the saying goes, they’re only original once.

According to the seller’s notes on the Car & Classic advert, the TC was built in 1949 at a time when MG’s sales were booming in America thanks to huge interest from soldiers returning from Europe. But this TC didn’t head west from the UK factory, but south, to South Africa, where it was bought by a car collector who apparently used it sparingly for a few MG Car Club events.

It was soon sold to another collector, whose other cars included Rolls-Royces, Bentleys, a Porsche and a later MGA, then in 1998 made its way to New Zealand where it has lived ever since. The seller got hold of the MG around seven years ago but found that it was too nice to put miles on and so uses his MGB for days out. He’s recently had the wheels repainted and wisely replaced the tires, whose sidewalls were perished after holding the car up for so long. Yeah, not sure I’d trust 74-year old tires, either, even with only 1,250 cc and 54.5 hp (55.3 PS) under the hood.

You know you’re talking about a slow car when the power figure is quoted to one decimal place – zero to 60 mph (96 km/h) took almost 23 seconds, though that was actually fairly brisk for a British car of the time. The new Cyberster, for context, can shave 20 seconds off that time in its top-spec 536 hp (400 kW / 544 PS) bi-motor guise.

And in China, at least, the bi-motor Cyberster costs less than half as much as the old timer, which is up for £75,000 ($91,500). But I bet the TC is a more interesting drive if you’re just looking for some Sunday fun rather than a daily hack, and it’s certainly a better investment. It also won’t kidnap you and force you to crash into a police van to stop it, like this MG ZS EV.

Lamborghini Has Created A Ferocious Yet Harmonious Supercar With The Revuelto, First Reviews Reveal

Carscoops

The first reviews of the Lamborghini Revuelto have arrived and it appears to be the finest V12-powered supercar the Italian marque has ever produced.

As we all know, the Revuelto is the successor to the beloved Aventador. The Aventador has long been adored for its brash styling and wild personality but it’s never been known for particularly impressive handling. Thankfully, the Revuelto is able to combine crazy styling with a driving experience that can now compete with the very best from Ferrari.

These reviews from Top Gear and Auto Trader both make mention of how much better the Revuelto handles than the Aventador. Top Gear’s Jack Rix notes that all the components work together “harmoniously” and that there is an extra level of refinement over previous Lamborghini supercars. While he mentions that the steering is a little too light for his taste, he is full of praise for the car.

More: Listen To The Lamborghini Revuelto’s Screaming V12 At The ‘Ring

Then there’s the powertrain. Unlike the Ferrari SF90 Stradale which uses a twin-turbocharged V8, the Revuelto has a screaming, naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 that has much more character than that V8. Supplementing this engine is a trio of electric motors that combine to produce 1,001 hp. That figure results in neck-snapping performance and fires the car down the straights.

Both Top Gear and Auto Trader also praise the car’s braking, noting that there is no noticeable changeover point between the regenerative and the mechanical brakes.

Then there’s the dual-clutch transmission. It replaces the single-clutch system found in the Aventador and is significantly smoother and quicker, making the Revuelto feel that much more modern. When driven in Corsa mode, the transmission still provides a visceral kick, adding to the driving experience and making it much more exciting.

2024 Kia EV9 Full Pricing Released, Flagship GT-Line Costs Nearly $75,000

Carscoops

Last month, Kia announced the 2024 EV9 would start at $54,900. Fast forward to today and the company has released pricing for additional variants.

Kicking things off is the $59,200 EV9 Light Long Range. It’s largely identical to the entry-level Light, but trades the seven-seat interior for a six-seat arrangement. Buyers will also find HomeLink as well as a handful of options – including a sunroof and a heated steering wheel – that aren’t available on the base model.

The big news is the powertrain as the EV9 Light Long Range has a 99.8 kWh battery pack, which powers a rear-mounted electric motor developing 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 258 lb-ft (349 Nm) of torque. This enables the crossover to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 8.8 seconds, hit a top speed of 115 mph (185 km/h), and travel approximately 300 miles (483 km) on a single charge.

The latter number is a vast improvement over the base EV9, which has a targeted range of 223 miles (359 km). That being said, the entry-level variant has a more powerful electric motor that produces 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS). This, along with the lighter weight, enables the standard EV9 Light to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 7.7 seconds and a top speed of 118 mph (190 km/h).

EV9 Wind e-AWD

Moving up the trim ladder is the $63,900 EV9 Wind e-AWD. It has a stylish exterior with LED lighting units, rain-sensing wipers, and 19-inch alloy wheels. The model also has a panoramic glass roof and a power liftgate.

Moving inside, drivers will find a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment system, and a 5-inch HVAC display. The seven-seater also sports SynTex upholstery, a heated steering wheel, a wireless smartphone charger, and a tri-zone climate control system. They’re joined by heated and ventilated front seats with eight-way power adjustment.

On the safety front, there’s navigation-based Smart Cruise Control, Highway Driving Assist 2, and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist. The model also has Blind-Spot Collision Warning / Avoidance Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, and Lane Following Assist. They’re joined by High Beam Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning / Avoidance Assist, Parking Distance Warning, Rear Occupant Alert, and Safe Exit Assist – among others.

Power is provided by a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that produces 379 hp (283 kW / 384 PS) and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque. This enables the model to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 5.7 seconds, before topping out at 124 mph (200 km/h). In terms of range, the 99.8 kWh battery pack should enable the crossover to travel up to 270 miles (435 km) on a single charge.

EV9 Land e-AWD

Buyers looking for more luxury can upgrade to the EV9 Land e-AWD, which begins at $69,900. It features a lightly revised exterior with “small cube” LED headlights, an illuminated grille, and larger 20-inch wheels. The model also has auto-dimming side mirrors and gloss black accents.

Most of the upgrades occur in the six-seat cabin, which boasts a power tilt/telescoping steering column, a digital rearview mirror, and stainless steel scuff plates. Other highlights include an illuminated Kia badge on the steering wheel, rear side curtains, and an ambient lighting system. Buyers will also find heated and ventilated rear seats as well as a 14 speaker Meridian audio system. They’re joined by a Blind-Spot View Monitor, a Surround View Monitor, and Reverse Parking Collision Avoidance Assist.

The powertrain carries over from the Wind, but the EV9 Land has a Vehicle-to-Load capability. It’s also worth mentioning the standard 20-inch wheels drop the range to 253 miles (407 km), but 19-inchers are available to bring that distance back up to 270 miles (435 km).

EV9 GT-Line e-AWD

That brings us to the EV9 GT-Line e-AWD, which will set you back $73,900. The range-topping model is distinguished by unique fascias, gunmetal accents, and 21-inch wheels with a two-tone finish.

Moving inside, buyers will find “exclusive interior trim and garnish.” Kia didn’t go into many specifics, but said the model has a premium suede cloth headliner, stainless steel pedals, and special seats with GT-Line logos. Other highlights include a head-up display, a self-leveling rear suspension, Remote Smart Parking Assist, and Parking Collision Avoidance Assist – Front, Reverse and Side.

On the performance front, the dual-motor all-wheel drive system has an increased output of 516 lb-ft (699 Nm) of torque. While the extra power is welcome, the range is disappointing at 243 miles (391 km).

U.S. deliveries are slated to begin late this year and Kia will open reservations on October 16 at 10 am PDT. You can secure your spot online or at participating dealers for a refundable $750 deposit.

Here Are Four More Toyota GR Corollas That Have Been Crashed

Carscoops

A whole bunch of 2023 Toyota GR Corolla models have recently appeared at salvage yards across the United States and four of them are up for grabs. A look through inventory at Copart and IAAI reveals that both have two examples each in stock that have been badly damaged and are up for grabs.

The two examples being sold by IAAI are both Core variants painted black. The first of them is located in Culpeper, Virginia and was crashed with just 7,427 miles (11,952 km) under its belt. It has a salvage title after being involved in a crash that left it with significant front-end damage. While repairing the car won’t be cheap, it’s certainly doable and the car could be easily upgraded and used as a potent track toy.

The second GR Corolla Core available through IAAI is in San Antonio, Texas and has 7,237 miles (11,646 km) on the odometer. It too has suffered extensive front-end damage and still runs and drives, unlike the Virginia car. Interestingly, the airbags were not deployed in the crash and it too looks repairable. The presence of an aftermarket exhaust leads us to believe it may have been driven pretty hard prior to the crash, however.

Then there are two GR Corolla models available through Copart. Both of them are also Core models and the first is also for sale in San Antonio, Texas. One of them has been driven a mere 1,870 miles (3,009 km) and has been involved in a massive front-end collision that has completely devastated the car. Unlike the first two where the engines looked to have escaped unscathed, there’s a good chance the engine of this one is damaged, making it slightly less appealing.

Last but not least is a GR Corolla Core in Mobile, Alabama. It has been driven 5,355 miles (8,618 km) and like the others, has significant damage across its fascia. Copart’s listing says that the car runs and drives.

Brand New 2024 Mustang Dark Horse Arrives At Ford Dealership Pre-Crashed

Carscoops

The S650 2024 Ford Mustang hasn’t had the best rollout, experiencing such issues as halted production runs, $10k markups, and even mismatched seats. Adding to the laundry list of hiccups is this incident, in which a brand new 2024 Mustang Dark Horse arrived at a Ford dealership already crashed.

The Carbonized Grey Mustang suffered substantial damage to its front end, with an entire chunk of the lower bumper and splitter taken out and left hanging on by a thread. The areas of the splitter surrounding the gash appear to be bent as well.

More: Brand New 2024 Ford Mustang S650 Made It To The Dealer Lot With Two Different Seats

Photo Reddit u/wn0991

It’s unclear how the damage was caused, but given the rain in the photo, commenters on the original Reddit post believe the car may have slipped on the carrier, allowing it to hit either another car or the frame of the truck. Some joked that the car came pre-crashed, alluding to the Mustang’s infamous reputation of crashing out at Cars and Coffee events.

See Also: The 2024 Ford Mustang Is Shipping To Dealers And $10k Markups Are Already Here

Regardless, it’s sad to see this happen to such a highly anticipated car that’s just hitting dealerships, and it’s even sadder considering this car starts at nearly $60,000 and can climb to nearly $85,000 with options. Unfortunately, repairing the damage on this Mustang will only add to the cost, though we can’t imagine it would be passed on to the consumer. With that being said, given the kind of markups being seen on other Dark Horses, repair costs would probably be the least of a potential buyer’s worries.

How To Accept a Partner’s Differences, and Why Your Relationship Can Be All the Better for It

Well+Good

We have gotten conflicting relationship advice. On the one hand, many of us have been told that we shouldn’t try to change our partners. And on the other hand, we are often encouraged to support our partners in becoming the best version of themselves they can be. But what if your definition of the “best” is different from theirs? How can you learn to accept the differences in your relationship while still supporting a partner’s growth?

As a modern love therapist and support circle facilitator, I often witness people in romantic relationships who believe that their partner thinks like they do and should therefore act like they do, too. For instance, you might think that your stressed-out partner should try to spend less time working because when you reduce your work hours, you feel more at ease. However, your partner may look at their life and see the solution for stress very differently. By a similar token, if you get quiet when you feel sad, you might assume that whenever your partner is quiet, they’re also sad—when in reality, they might just be feeling relaxed. These examples illustrate the ways in which we tend to overlay our experiences onto others in an attempt to understand the world around us.

It’s only natural for the brain to assume that our reality is the objective reality, after all. Given that its job is to predict outcomes in order to help keep us safe, the brain craves a sense of certainty; such objectivity gives us the comfortable illusion that we are fully in control of our relationships and our circumstances.

But the truth is that, as writer Anais Nin wrote, “We don’t see things as they are; we see things as we are.” Indeed, research shows that the way we view the world depends on our own identities, emotions, lived experiences, and desires. And those are unlikely to match up perfectly with those of a partner.

While pushing back against differences in a relationship can create conflict and distance, learning how to accept them can add more richness and wisdom to your partnership.

While pushing back against those differences can create conflict and distance in a relationship, learning how to accept them can do just the opposite, adding more richness and wisdom to your partnership. Indeed, you don’t have to change your own perspective or push your partner to change theirs, and sameness doesn’t equal relational compatibility; embracing some differences in your relationship can help rather than hurt your connection.

The only caveat is if the differences at stake involve your core values. For example, you value transparency, and your partner values privacy, or you value collectivism, and they value individualism. Noticing these differences may prompt you to try to get your partner to join you in your value system, rather than having to feel the feelings associated with misalignment—which is actually the information you need to get clear about if this relationship is right for you.

Take some time to consider their core values in juxtaposition with yours, and assess whether you’re living in alignment by being with your partner. Notice your similarities and differences, and discuss how you feel about the differences. Do these feel like differences you can live with? If the answer is “no,” it’s time to consider what’s preventing you from letting this person go. But if it’s “yes,” learning to integrate your way of seeing the world with your partner’s—rather than attempting to fit theirs into yours—can actually enhance your partnership.

How to accept certain differences in your relationship

Lean into differentiation

Scientifically, differentiation is the process that our cells undergo as they evolve, helping them become distinct and specialized. As individuals, we undergo a similar process as we grow up. For example, as many of us move from childhood into adolescence, we begin to question our caregivers’ beliefs and form our own. In our adult relationships, we are constantly juggling our need for togetherness with our need for separateness.

Healthy differentiation is the ability to be in constant contact with your personal thoughts, values, and feelings, while also being close to the thoughts, values, and feelings of another. Consider the image of a rooted oak tree with flexible branches that sway in the wind: We want to be able to reach toward our partners, but from a place of feeling grounded in ourselves.

If you’re noticing a desire to be the same or experience constant togetherness with your partner, it might be helpful to consider: What is it about our differences that scares me? Instead of focusing on these differences as flaws within my partner, how can I focus on the parts of me that I want to enhance or embrace?

Learn to be comfortable with disliking aspects of your partner

Choosing to be with someone doesn’t mean liking everything about them. Learning how to accept the differences in a relationship can mean simply embracing the way someone is by being with them, and then noticing your own reactions, emotions, and impulses without acting on them immediately. It means paying more attention to how we are in the presence of things we don’t like, rather than trying to fix the behavior of another.

For example, you may not like that your partner is quiet in groups. Instead of focusing on their silence, notice what comes up for you in these instances. Are you afraid your partner’s silence is something that reflects negatively on you? Does quietness trigger a negative memory or association for you? This internal investigation will allow you to determine if the thing you dislike is about them, or if it’s really about you.

Seek to understand before being understood

In order to accept something, we first have to have some understanding of it. Many times when we dislike something, our inclination is to reject it. If you don’t like that your partner smokes cigarettes, for example, you might distance yourself from the behavior rather than try to get to know what might underlie it.

Therapist and artist Benjamin Seaman defines judgment as, “our minds attempting to put something we find threatening into a box we can easily recognize, so we can avoid it.” Instead of avoiding the thing you don’t like, consider doing the opposite by getting curious about it and moving closer. Ask your partner what they like about smoking. How does it help them? What does it feel like before they have a cigarette? How does it feel after?

If we operate under the assumption that certain behaviors may have harmful effects but good intentions, those behaviors tend to soften, allowing us to get closer to them. Once your partner feels like you are approaching them with curiosity, rather than judgment, they are more likely to let you in. Ironically, it’s often acceptance of the way things are that can ultimately open up the possibility for change.

Decide if being right is more important to you than being together

There are times when we want our partners to validate that the way we see things is right. We want them to recollect experiences in the same way as we do. Some of us want to be “right” because this has been a strategy to help us avoid disappointment. Others want to be “right” because it helped us solidify our position in a social hierarchy and got us respect.

Yet, what I have found as a modern love therapist is that the more we can lean into the reality that there are multiple ways of seeing things and approach differences with respect and curiosity, the more likely we are to come to consensus or feel more ease about having diverse truths.

Here’s What An Extra 332 HP Will Help A Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Achieve On The Drag Strip

Carscoops

With a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 that makes 668 hp (498 kW/677 PS) and 659 lb-ft (893 Nm) of torque under its hood, the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing isn’t shy on power. But some tuners, like Hennessey, are sure that owners want even more, and they’re out to show you why.

In its latest video, Hennessey decided to pit a standard CT5-V Blackwing against its tuned version, which makes 1,000 hp (746 kW/1,014 PS) at the crank. Appropriately enough, it’s called the CT5-V Blackwing H1000, and you won’t be surprised to learn that the extra power makes a difference on the drag strip.

Hennessey claims that the car is capable of reaching 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 2.5 seconds, or one whole second faster than it could from the factory. It also claims that the extra oomph can help the Cadillac reach an even higher top speed than the stock 205 mph (330 km/h).

Read: Hennessey’s H1000 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Is The Fastest Combustion Luxury Sedan On The Planet

But those are just numbers. What does that actually look like when the CT5-V Blackwing lines up against the H1000? Hennessey seeks to find out in a video that sees the two cars go head-to-head on the drag strip.

In the first race, the cars (both equipped with the manual transmission) compete in a roll race. Although it takes the tuned model a beat to pull out a lead, once it gets ahead, it just keeps going until, at the finish line, it’s around 10 car lengths in front (by my, admittedly unscientific, estimate).

In the second race, the cars start from first gear with a short roll-out, and the H1000 jumps out to an early lead. Once again, it runs away from the stock model. That’s hardly a surprise since it makes around 332 hp (248 kW/337 PS) more, but it’s a nice visual representation of how that extra power expresses itself in the real world.
