Mitsubishi’s Electrified Crossover MPV Concept Could Preview The Next-Gen Delica D:5

Carscoops

Mitsubishi gave us a better idea of what to expect at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 with the second teaser of its “electrified crossover MPV” concept. The adventure-packed minivan could serve as a preview for the successor of the aging Mitsubishi Delica D:5.

Following an earlier teaser that revealed the front lighting signature of the yet-unnamed “Borderless Adventure” themed concept, Mitsubishi now shows us its tail, confirming the single-box silhouette. The T-shaped LED taillights are integrated into the rear glass, as with the illuminated Mitsubishi emblem. We can’t see the lower portion of the bodywork, but there is a roof-mounted box that could house a retractable tent or extra space for cargo. Another interesting detail is the brackets for the mirror-replacing cameras. The previous teaser suggested that the concept has a 6-seater layout in a “vastly spacious cabin”.

The new teaser (above) sheds more light into the new concept that first appeared on a much darker shot (below).

The press release suggests that the concept will combine “the road handling of an SUV with the comfort and user-friendliness of an MPV” while representing a step towards a carbon-neutral society. The electrified powertrain will offer “the cruising range and driving performance to handle all kinds of adventures”. This description hints at a plug-in hybrid setup rather than being fully electric, something that is supported by its ability to “switch driving modes as the situation demands”. In any case, Mitsubishi confirmed that the concept will come with an electric four-wheel drive system, making it off-road-capable in combination with the high ground clearance and large-diameter tires.

Mitsubishi hasn’t revealed any production aspirations for the electrified crossover MPV concept but given the timing of its launch and its adventurous character, local media suspect it could evolve into the successor of the Delica D:5. The current fifth-gen model has been around largely unchanged since 2007, with a facelift in 2018 making this the right time for a clean-sheet design.

Other Exhibits

The automaker announced a second concept for the show in Tokyo, in collaboration with a startup company called Lifehub Inc.3 which specializes in the development of next-gen mobility chairs. The “Last 1 Mile Mobility” is a small mobility vehicle that looks like a buggy and has room for a rider and a passenger. This one is fully electric, sourcing energy from used batteries taken from electrified vehicles.

Besides the aforementioned concepts, Mitsubishi’s lineup at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 will include the new Triton/L200, a replica of its rally version that took part in the Asia Cross Country Rally alongside the Delica D:5 support vehicle, and its current range of production vehicles (Outlander PHEV, Delica D:5, Eclipse Cross PHEV, Delica Mini, and eK X EV).

9 Amazon Prime Day competitor deals for travelers

The Points Guy

Editor’s note: This story has been updated. Availability was accurate as of 4:32 a.m. EDT, Oct. 11, 2023.

If you know me, then you know there are few things I love more than avoiding shopping at full price — which is why I am particularly excited about this week.

Today marks the start of this fall’s Amazon Prime Day, officially known as the Prime Big Deal Days. Starting Oct. 10 at 3 a.m. EST and running through Oct. 11 at 2:59 a.m. EST, Prime members can access Amazon sales. Think of it as a precursor to Black Friday, with exclusive savings only available to Prime members.

But there’s no need to fret if you are not a Prime member; there are other ways to save. In fact, multiple retailers, including Target, Best Buy and Nordstrom, are currently running sales that rival Prime Day.

In preparation for this sale, we’ve rounded up 10 of the best competitor deals for travelers from other retailers so you can save even more money.

Tech and accessories

 [circuit type=hyperlink circuit_id=”20420169179″] — $379 at Best Buy

BEST BUY

The one accessory I wear every day, without fail, is my Apple Watch Nike Series 4, which I’ve had for a few years now. I love it so much that I am considering upgrading my older version. I’m looking at the Apple Watch Series 8, which is currently on sale for $379 — marked down from $529. The sports band is on sale in three colors: midnight, white and starlight.

[circuit type=hyperlink circuit_id=”20420169180″] — $23.99 at Best Buy

BEST BUY

One of my favorite ways to explore when traveling is by walking through the city’s various neighborhoods. I love tracking my steps via my Apple Watch, but I can only do this if my watch is charged.

This is why I always pack my Apple Watch charger in my suitcase — you’ll need to charge this watch daily as you do with a phone. Along with your charging cable, you’ll need a USB-C adapter to plug your charger into the outlets in your hotel room. This Belkin model can charge two devices at once and is currently marked down to $23.99 from $29.99.

[circuit type=hyperlink circuit_id=”20420169183″] — $89.99 at Target

TARGET

Is there anything worse than boarding your flight and realizing that you either forgot your headphones or they’re not charged? For many of us, the answer is no, given the prospect of our seatmate striking up a conversation fueled by the lack of headphones.

Headphones are essential for any traveler. Apple’s AirPods are known for providing hands-free access to your iPhone thanks to a wireless connection, high-quality audio and five-hour battery life. Although these are certainly not the newest or longest-lasting AirPods available, their $99.99 price tag allows you to save $30 off the regular price of $129.99. As is the case with all AirPods, these include a charging case.

[circuit type=hyperlink circuit_id=”20420169184″] — $88.99 at Walmart

WALMART

We would be remiss if we failed to include a holy grail Apple product in this tech roundup: the Apple AirTag. In case you’ve been living under a rock, AirTags are widely used among TPG staffers and readers alike to track bags, suitcases and other items you don’t want to lose when traveling or in daily life.

Simply attach the Bluetooth tracking device to anything you own to passively track its location. Your AirTag will ping when there is a nearby Apple device, whether it be your iPhone or someone else’s iPhone or iPad. If your checked bag is attached to an AirTag, it will ping its location off that iPhone and report the location back to you, which you can view in the Find My app alongside your iOS devices.

While AirTags are not included in October’s Prime Big Deal Days sale, you can find them for a discounted price of $88.99 at Walmart — $10.01 less than the regular price of $99.

[circuit type=hyperlink circuit_id=”20420169185″] — $19.99 at Target

TARGET

One of the best things about the AirTags is their size: They’re slightly larger than a quarter. However, their small size does make it easy to lose or drop them by mistake when shoving them into your purse or luggage. To protect yourself from losing an affordable yet essential item, consider purchasing an AirTag holder, such as this keychain and protective case cover from Wasserstein. It’s on sale for $19.99, reduced from $39.99.

Its chic design, available in brown and blue, helps keep your AirTags protected from dust and scratches while easily attaching to your bag, keys and other important items.

[circuit type=hyperlink circuit_id=”20420169186″] — $14.99 at Target

TARGET

If you are worried about keeping track of your furry friends, look no further than the Wasserstein pet collar AirTag holder, on sale at Target for $14.99 — 50% off the regular price of $29.99.

Similar to the above AirTag holder, this one is designed to attach to your pet’s collar.

Luggage and backpacks

[circuit type=hyperlink circuit_id=”20420169187″] — $149.99 at Samsonite

SAMSONITE

Samsonite products are tried and true, which makes the Freeform carry-on bag — on sale for $149.99 (marked down from $199.99) — hard to pass up. Currently, you can save an extra 10% on your purchase by using the code “PRM10.”

As the newest lightweight offering from the luggage giant, the expandable suitcase, measuring 21.25 inches by 15.25 inches by 10 inches, is marketed as a carry-on suitable for international travel. Still, be sure to check the specific luggage requirements of your airline.

Weighing less than 7 pounds, this extremely lightweight suitcase features 360-degree spinner wheels and a Transportation Security Administration-compatible lock. It also comes with a limited 10-year global warranty.

[circuit type=hyperlink circuit_id=”20420169188″] — $142.49 at Samsonite

SAMSONITE

For those looking for a carry-on for domestic travel, consider Samsonite’s Voltage DLX carry-on. It’s currently on sale for $142.49, plus an extra 10% off using the code “PRM10.”

With a built-in USB port, this suitcase is ideal for business and leisure travelers alike. Measuring 22 inches by 14 inches by 9 inches, it adheres to most carry-on policies for domestic carriers, including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines. The bag earns bonus points for the integrated WetPak pocket, which helps you keep liquids and toiletries contained without fear of leakage.

[circuit type=hyperlink circuit_id=”20420169189″] — $74.99 at Samsonite

SAMSONITE

For my fellow carry-on-only travelers out there, having a good backpack to bring on board is absolutely key. At 12.5 inches by 7 inches by 16.3 inches, this one will fit under the seat in front of you but is still large enough to hold essentials like your laptop and a water bottle.

This bag is not only practical — with dual adjustable shoulder straps, a padded laptop sleeve and a trolley sleeve — but it also elevates your travel style with a sleek design and gold hardware. Grab yours while it only costs $74.99 — 25% off the regular price of $99.99.

Bottom line

If you shop the above brands and stores or score any other deals, you’ll want to make sure you’re using a credit card that maximizes your online purchases. Use the Chase Freedom Unlimited for 1.5% cash back on non-bonus spending or the Blue Cash Everyday Card® from American Express for 3% cash back on U.S. online retail purchases (on up to $6,000 per year, then 1% after that).

Rest assured, this week’s Prime sale and the others mentioned in this guide are just the start of sales to come this holiday season. We will be sure to update you on the must-have travel products with each one.

2024 Jaguar F-Type ZP Edition Is Brand’s Final Combustion Sports Car

Carscoops

Jaguar is sending the F-Type into retirement with one final version, dubbed the F-Type ZP Edition. Not only will this new model serve as the final iteration of the F-Type but it will also be Jaguar’s final combustion-powered sports car as it transitions to an all-electric line-up.

The British marque will build just 150 examples of the F-Type ZP Edition throughout 2024, the car’s final production year. It is being built in both Coupe and Convertible body styles and will be offered in just two colorways that pay homage to the E-Type ZP Collection introduced earlier this year. One of these colorways consists of Oulton Blue Gloss paint with a Mars Red and Ebony duotone leather interior while the second colorway consists of Crystal Grey Gloss paint with a Navy Blue and Ebony duotone leather interior.

Regardless of which colorway customers opt for, both have Porcelain White Gloss racing-style roundels on the doors and Porcelain White Gloss front grille surrounds. Additionally, the F-Type ZP Edition will be sold exclusively with a series of gloss black exterior elements, including the wing mirrors and brake calipers. The car also receives exclusive branding on the fenders.

Elsewhere, Jaguar has designed Black Diamond Turned 20-inch forged alloy wheels for the limited-run model and will add a ‘One of 150’ SV Bespoke plaque into the cabin of each example built.

Each and every F-Type ZP Edition to be built has the same flagship powertrain as the F-Type R P575. This means a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 with 575 hp and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. Coupled to this engine is an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power through all four wheels. The car can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.5 seconds and continue through to an electronically limited top speed of 186 mph (300 km/h).

“As Jaguar embarks on the boldest transformation in its history, to become a modern luxury all-electric brand from 2025, this is an unrepeatable celebration of Jaguar’s internal combustion sports car provenance,” Jaguar managing director Rawdon Glover said. “F-TYPE has captivated sports car drivers for more than a decade, just as the E-type did five decades before it. The ZP Edition is the ultimate celebration of that lineage, joining an illustrious roster of heritage-inspired collector’s editions including the 2015 Project 7 and 2020 Heritage 60 Edition.”

Milltek’s C8 Corvette Exhaust Unleashes Intoxicating V8 Growl

Carscoops

The American division of British exhaust manufacturer Milltek Sport has just launched a potent exhaust system for the C8-generation Chevrolet Corvette Stingray that doesn’t just look good but also adds to the V8 soundtrack and saves a significant amount of weight.

The exhaust is made from T304L aircraft-grade stainless steel and is fully TIG welded throughout. Milltek notes that it has been brought to life through a collaboration between its British and American facilities and that customers can choose to have it fitted with tip finishes in polished stainless, Cerakote satin black, brushed titanium, burnt/blue titanium, or carbon fiber.

As a direct plug-and-play replacement, the system works with the factory valve control system meaning the sound output will vary depending on the driving mode. The exhaust has been priced from a reasonable $3,471 but that price increases to $3,851 should a customer opt for the brushed titanium tips.

Watch: Borla’s New Exhausts For The C8 Corvette Could Wake The Dead

Milltek conducted final testing of the exhaust at its location in Tennessee before taking an all-black prototype to the Tail of the Dragon to unleash the 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8. While it’s always hard to accurately capture the sound of an exhaust on video, it certainly seems louder than the standard exhaust while still retaining that beloved Chevy V8 growl.

The company has not said if the exhaust adds any extra horses or torque to the engine but does note that it weighs 39 lbs (17.6 kg) less than the standard exhaust. It also results in better flow.

Plenty of other companies also offer exhaust packages for the C8 Corvette. These include two different kits from Borla and last week, Lingenfelter unveiled its new exhaust system for the flagship C8 Corvette Z06.

Cadillac Returning To Australia With Showrooms In Malls

Carscoops

Cadillac is reportedly planning a long-awaited return to the Australian market and will borrow a page from Tesla’s playbook. Rather than selling its vehicle from General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) showrooms, it will establish its own stores in malls around the country.

Cadillac hasn’t sold vehicles in Australia since 1969, but it has come close to reentering the market a few times since then. However, now that the luxury brand is experiencing a sea change as it transitions to electric technology, it appears to be using the opportunity to go international.

To do that, it has been renting space in high-end shopping malls around Australia in anticipation of an upcoming launch, reports Car Expert, citing unnamed sources. This follows reports that the brand has filed Aussie trademarks for the model names “Lyriq,” “Optiq,” and “Escalade IQ.”

Read: Cadillac Lyriq Is Spearheading GM’s Return To Europe

The move will allow Cadillac to have its own, high-end spaces near the same stores that customers shop for other luxury goods. It’s a strategy that is gathering increasing traction over the traditional dealership model with EV manufacturers. However, the brand is not ready to reveal its plans yet.

“GM participates in select right-hand-drive markets around the world. We have previously said that the modular Ultium platform and EV architecture offer greater flexibility in vehicle configurations,” a GM Australia spokesperson said. “We do not have any product announcements to share at this time but stay tuned.”

These reports follow the revelation that Cadillac is also trying to take on the European market. The automaker recently added Switzerland to its whitelist of countries, and more European markets are expected to be added soon.

While the specifics of its plans for Australia remain a mystery, in Switzerland, the Cadillac Lyric will sell for CHF82,000. That’s the equivalent of $89,600, which is significantly more than the sub-$60,000 price tag it has in America.

Mercedes Takes On Tesla Semi With New eActros 600 EV Offering 311 Miles Of Range

Carscoops

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has taken the wraps off the new eActros 600, which is a long-haul electric semi that aims to set a “new standard in road freight transport.”

Slated to go into production late next year, the eActros 600 has a “puristic design” that embraces soft curves and aerodynamic styling. Speaking of the latter, the semi has underbody paneling and air deflectors on the A-pillars. They’re joined by matrix LED headlamps and a purpose-built cab that was extended 3.1 inches (80 mm) for better aerodynamics.

The semi has a payload capacity of around 22 tons and it’s powered by three lithium iron phosphate batteries that give it a combined capacity of 621 kWh. This configuration promises a range of 500 km (311 miles) with Mercedes noting that roughly 60 percent of long-distance trips by their customers are shorter than this distance. As a result, as long as there’s charging infrastructure at loading and unloading points, customers shouldn’t have any issues with range anxiety.

More: Mercedes Shows Off eActros LongHaul That Could Go Up To 497 Miles On A Charge

For companies that need to travel farther, Mercedes said the eActros 600 can “travel significantly more than 1,000 km (621 miles) per day.” In particular, drivers can charge the semi when they’re taking their legally prescribed breaks.

Tesla has not officially disclosed battery specifications for its Semi, but it is widely believed that the longhaul version has a battery capacity estimated to be in the range of 850-950 kWh, providing a range of approximately 500 miles or 804 km.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks designed the eActros 600 to have the same durability as the conventional heavy-duty long-haul Actros and this means the model shouldn’t have any problem traveling up to 1.2 million km (745,645 miles) in ten years of operation. The company added that even after that period, “the battery state of health should still be over 80 percent.”

The batteries power a new 800-volt electric axle with two electric motors. They produce a continuous output of 536 hp (400 kW / 544 PS) as well as a peak output of 805 hp (600 kW / 816 PS). The latter output is “available most of the time with almost no interruption in torque.”

The eActros 600 has a charging capacity of up to 400 kW, but the company eventually plans to offer megawatt charging. When it becomes available, the model could go from a 20-80% charge in around 30 minutes.

While Mercedes noted the model will have a “purchase price that is around two to two and a half times higher than the diesel equivalent,” they said that in certain markets the eActros 600 could be more profitable in the long term. The exact breakdown depends on a variety of factors – including incentives and energy prices – but the company noted the advantages could begin “within the average vehicle holding period of around five years or after around 600,000 km (372,823 miles).”

European 2024 BMW X2 To Be Sold In sDrive20i, xDrive18d, And M35i xDrive Forms

Carscoops

Soon after North American specifications for the 2024 BMW X2 were announced, we now have comprehensive details about the variants that European customers will be able to get their hands on. As expected, they will have more options than U.S. buyers, most notably with the option of the new all-electric iX2 xDrive30.

Three combustion engines will be offered in Europe, consisting of two petrol units and one diesel engine. The petrol range starts with the X2 sDrive20i which comes equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine rocking a new dual-injection system and working alongside a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.

This 48-volt mild-hybrid system serves as the SUV’s starter generator and has a small electric motor integrated into the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. It alone produces 19 hp and 41 lb-ft (55 Nm) of torque and contributes to a combined 168 hp and 206 lb-ft (280 Nm) of torque. The X2 sDrive20i can accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 8.3 seconds and it is just as fuel efficient as you’d expect, consuming between 6.0-6.5 liters per 100 km or 47.1 mpg – 43.5 mpg over the combined cycle.

European shoppers also have a diesel variant on offer in the form of the X2 sDrive18d. This model is outfitted with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine that has been upgraded with new low-friction pistons, a graphite coating on the piston skirts, and an active oil separator. This variant produces 148 hp and 265 lb-ft (360 Nm) of torque and allows the X2 sDrive18d to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 8.9 seconds. This version sips between 5.1-5.5 liters per 100 km or 55.4 mpg – 51.4 mpg in the WLTP cycle. Like the sDrive20i, the sDrive18d is also fitted with a seven-speed dual-clutch Steptronic transmission that includes a feature that automatically shifts to P when the engine is switched off.

Just as in the U.S., the new BMW X2 range in Europe is topped out by the X2 M35i xDrive. Driving this model is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 296 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque in European specification. The observant among you may notice that the U.S.-spec X2 M35i has 312 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm), so European shoppers will have to make do with slightly less.

Nevertheless, the Euro model is still able to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.4 seconds and includes a revised seven-speed Steptronic transmission. It is also equipped with a mechanical limited-slip differential up front and comes standard with BMW superb xDrive all-wheel drive system.

BMW has not yet announced pricing details for European versions of the 2024 X2.

New BMW iX2: The Electric X2 That We Won’t Get In The U.S.

Carscoops

The launch of the extensively redesigned BMW X2 has led to the introduction of the brand’s first ever all-electric variant, the iX2. It is scheduled to make its debut in March 2024 as a single trim variant, the iX2 xDrive30, and will be produced alongside the combustion-powered X2 at BMW’s factory in Regensburg, Germany.

Visually, the new X2 is quite a bit different than the outgoing model, although the styling differences between the X2 and the iX2 are quite minor. It rocks very similar front and rear fascias to the combustion models but obviously has faux kidney grilles and lacks any exhaust pipes. However, it’s beneath the surface where the most substantial changes have been made.

The iX2 will initially be available exclusively in xDrive30 guise. This model combines an electric motor at the front axle with one at the rear axle to deliver a combined 309 hp (230kW / 313 PS) and 364 lb-ft (494 Nm) of torque. Feeding these motors with juice is a 64.8 kWh battery pack and while not a performance-focused SUV, the iX2 xDrive30 can still hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in an impressive 5.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 112 mph (180 km/h). It has a WLTP range of between 417 km and 449 km (259 – 279 miles).

As standard, the iX2 xDrive30 rolls out special 17-inch light alloy wheels and includes a regenerative braking system. It is further differentiated from the combustion models due to the presence of strengthened cross members for the front and rear bumpers that are designed to help protect the battery in a crash.

BMW has equipped the iX2 xDrive30 with its Combined Charging Unit that enables AC charging at a rate of 11 kW as standard, allowing it to be charged from 0 to 100% in 6.5 hours. When connected to a 22 kW AC charger, that time drops to 3 hours and 45 minutes. The iX2 also supports 130 kW DC charger that drops the charge time further, allowing the battery to be filled from 10-80% in 29 minutes. The compact model also has a thermal management system to cool or warm the battery before the driver stops at a fast-charging station.

Customers who order the iX2 will have the option to purchase the Connected Home Charging package, aimed at reducing energy costs and minimizing the SUV’s carbon footprint. This package includes load-optimized charging, which adjusts the charging rate based on the available power in the home. Furthermore, it intelligently utilizes energy generated by a household’s solar panels. The entire system can be conveniently controlled through the My BMW App.

BMW says the global warming potential of the iX2 xDrive30 through its lifecycle is around 30% lower than the European market X2 sDrive20i and around 60% lower if it is charged exclusively using renewable power.

No plans for a North American rollout

While a complete list of markets where the iX2 will be available has not been officially confirmed, a BMW representative mentioned to CarScoops that “the iX2 is currently not planned for the U.S.” It’s certainly disappointing news for potential customers on this side of the Atlantic.
