2024 Toyota RAV4 Prime Gets A Price Hike And 42 Miles Of Electric-Only Range

Carscoops

There aren’t many mainstream plug-in hybrid crossovers on the market, but the Toyota RAV4 Prime is returning for 2024 with a base price of $43,440.

Costing $350 more than its predecessor, the eco-friendly crossover appears to carryover untouched. It will arrive at U.S. dealerships later this year in “limited quantities.”

While there isn’t much to report, the entry-level RAV4 Prime SE features black accents, a dual exhaust system, and 18-inch wheels with a two-tone finish. Buyers will also find a leather-wrapped steering wheel and heated front seats with eight-way power adjustment on the driver’s side. They’re joined by red contrast stitching, a six-speaker audio system, a 7-inch multi-information display, and an 8-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia system.

Customers looking for more luxury can opt for a $1,665 Weather & Moonroof Package, which adds a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, and rain-sensing wipers with a de-icer function.

If that isn’t fancy enough, the RAV4 Prime XSE can be had for $47,310. It’s distinguished by vertical LED lights, larger 19-inch wheels, and red-painted shock absorbers. The model also offers a two-tone exterior that sees a black roof combined with a contrasting body color.

The upgrades continue in the cabin as fabric is replaced by SofTex upholstery. Buyers will also find a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a larger 10.5-inch infotainment system, and an 11-speaker JBL audio system with a subwoofer. Other highlights include an ambient lighting system, a wireless smartphone charger, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink. Customers can also get packages that add heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a panoramic moonroof – among other things.

The Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ suite of driver assistance system comes standard and includes Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, and a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection. Other niceties include Automatic High Beams, Road Sign Assist, Rear Seat Reminder, and a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.

Under the hood, there’s a plug-in hybrid powertrain that consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, two electric motors, and an 18.1 kWh battery pack. This setup gives the all-wheel drive crossover a combined output of 302 hp (225 kW / 306 PS), which enables the model to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.5 seconds and travel 42 miles (68 km) on electricity alone.

Refreshed Rivian R1 Reportedly Arriving In 2024 With New 1,000 HP+ Ascent Trim

Carscoops

Rivian’s R1T electric pickup truck has only been around since 2021, and their R1S SUV since 2022, but it appears the company already has plans for a refreshed version of their R1 platform, and it could be arriving as early as next year.

The report comes from a member on the Rivian Forums, who received a tip from a “solid source” claiming that the refreshed R1T and R1S will arrive in 2024. This source also mentioned a new “Ascent” trim joining the lineup as a range-topping model. This would include various cosmetic upgrades, such as blacked out badges and trim, as well as functional design changes to improve the vehicle’s aerodynamics. However, if this report is to be believed, there’s more to it than just styling tweaks.

The most exciting part of this Ascent trim is undoubtedly its powertrain. Despite sounding like a package that would simply enhance the vehicle’s off-road abilities, it supposedly bumps output to over 1,000 hp (1,014 PS / 746 kW) from the current range-topping 835 hp (847 PS / 623 kW). The Rivian Forums member mentions that the power was even enough to lift the front wheels off the ground in testing. Interestingly, this feat was accomplished with a dual-motor setup rather than the quad-motor setup in use on the current R1T and R1S, which could bring into question the quad-motor’s place in the lineup going forward.

See Also: Rivian’s R2 Models To Use A More Simplified And Cheaper Electrical Architecture

If Rivian could produce all their vehicles with a motor on each axle and simply add performance with software, it would surely be more cost effective than fitting and optimizing certain vehicles to have a quad-motor powertrain. Granted, the motors on this Ascent trim could be different from the ones on the current dual-motor vehicles, but costs could still theoretically be saved in streamlining production. At this point, there’s no way to know about the motors for sure, or if the Ascent trim and all of its power will even come to fruition, so we’ll just have to wait until next year to find out.

Watch BMW CSL Batmobile And Ford Capri RS3100 Burst Into Flames In Pitlane Accident

Carscoops

The rivalry between the BMW E9 CSL and Ford Capri RS3100 in European Touring Car racing in the early 1970s provided some incredible on-track action for fans. But at a historic race even in Spain this month featuring the two coupes, the real excitement was in the pits when a fire broke out engulfing a CSL and Capri in flames.

The accident happened last weekend at Spain’s Estoril circuit, during the Estoril Classics event. Video footage shows a CSL Batmobile parked in the pits with a Capri RS3100 tucked up close behind it and a Mk1 Ford Escort RS behind that. Even before the fire has erupted the people gathered around the BMW seem to be concerned about something, and we can see a small stream of liquid running between it and the Capri on the pitlane asphalt.

Then, just as the camera and two of the observers (one of them, fortunately, holding a fire extinguisher) move a little closer, the fuel under the Capri’s hot engine ignites and the flames leap forward, covering the entire rear of the BMW, which must have been the source of the leak. As the cameraman wisely pulls back we see that there’s a huge area of asphalt next to the BMW that’s also ablaze, giving a clue as to how much fuel has escaped.

Soon there’s a thick plume of black smoke sailing upwards and several people are trying to put out the fire with a mixture of foam-style fire extinguishers and also with what looks like a conventional water hose, which is a bad idea. Fire safety experts advise not to spray water on fuel fires because the petrol will float on top of the water, continue burning and can actually be spread further.

By the end of the video the fire has been extinguished but we’re too far away to see how badly the two cars were damaged. On the track in the 1970s it was the BMW that came out tops, but we suspect the CSL came off worse in this encounter. By the way, if you’ve never heard the Capri’s screaming V6 in action, check out the onboard sections of the video below.

Whoever Said That Ferraris Look Good Only In Red?

Carscoops

The Ferrari 296 GTB has taken the Italian brand’s ‘entry-level’ mid-engine supercar recipe to new heights thanks to a hybridized V6 powertrain and its bold yet beautiful styling. It has proven so popular among supercar buyers that wait times are thought to be upwards of 2 years but there are some pristine, low-mileage used examples out there ready for collection today.

This particular 296 GTB has just been listed up for sale by Exotics Hunter in Boca Raton, Florida and is one of the most stunning examples we’ve come across. It does command a hefty premium, however.

Immediately making the car stand out is the gorgeous Azzurro California blue paint adorning the supercar’s exterior. We know that red is the classic Ferrari color but there are plenty of other more interesting paint options in the marque’s palette and this is one of them. It suits the shape of the 296 GTB perfectly and has been contrasted with gloss black wheels, yellow brake calipers, and yellow Scuderia Shields on the front fenders.

The listing notes that the paint was a $13,499 option and that it joins a host of other options. These include electric and ventilated seats ($8,437), the premium audio system ($6,243), suspension lift ($5,737), carbon fiber steering wheel ($5,062), and front and rear parking sensors ($1,519). The car had a sticker price of $378,141 and Exotics Hunter is asking $449,000 for it.

Watch: Ferrari 296 GTB Runs 0-60 In 2.4 Seconds Making It One Of The World’s Quickest RWD Cars

A look inside the cabin reveals that the ventilated seats are clad in plush black leather with yellow contrasting stitching and yellow Prancing Horses on the headrests, a $1,266 option. Yellow seatbelts are also visible as are a host of black Alcantara components.

As a refresher, the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 of the 296 GTB is supplemented by a pair of axial flux electric motors to produce a combined 819 hp and 546 lb-ft (740 Nm) of torque. Drive is sent through the rear wheels thanks to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and the 7.45 kWh battery pack gives it an electric range of around 16 miles (25 km).

California Family Made $38 Million In $600 Million Catalytic Converter Theft Ring

Carscoops

Three members of a Sacramento family have entered guilty pleas for their role in a nationwide theft ring, which saw a staggering $600 million worth of stolen catalytic converters shipped from California to New Jersey. The accused are all connected to the theft and trade of catalytic converters, which became a major target during the pandemic.

According to federal prosecutors, brothers Tou Sue Vang (32) and Andrew Vang (28), along with their mother Monica Moua (58), ran an unlicensed operation from their Sacramento home. The Californian family bought stolen catalytic converters from local thieves and shipped them to a New Jersey metal refinery called DG Auto Parts LLC (DG Auto). The family is said to have earned $38 million in wire payments through these transactions.

Tou Sue Vang also entered guilty pleas for an additional 39 charges related to money laundering.

advertisement scroll to continue

“Some of these precious metals are more valuable per ounce than gold, and their value has been increasing in recent years,” said the U.S. attorney’s office. “The black-market price for catalytic converters can be above $1,000 each, depending on the type of vehicle and what state it is from. They can be stolen in less than a minute.”

The bust was part of a broader operation that resulted in charges against 21 individuals in two separate indictments in 2022. The U.S. Department of Justice revealed that arrests, searches, and seizures were carried out in a coordinated effort across multiple states, including California, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, North Carolina, and Virginia.

However, the majority of the big players were located in California, Oklahoma, and New Jersey. The defendants in the last state are accused of operating DG Auto Parts LLC, and of knowingly purchasing stolen catalytic converters from the defendants in California and Oklahoma.

Read: Multimillion-Dollar Catalytic Converter Theft Operation Thwarted By US Law Enforcement

Six defendants operated in multiple locations across New Jersey, which allegedly “de-canned” stolen catalytic converters, extracting the precious metals within, and selling them to metal refineries, making over $600 million in the process.

Meanwhile, in locations across Oklahoma, several defendants were charged with similar crimes. They are accused of receiving hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars each from DG Auto for stolen catalytic converters.

“In Tulsa alone, more than 2,000 catalytic converters were stolen in the past year,” said U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson for the Northern District of Oklahoma. “Organized criminal activity, including the large-scale theft of catalytic converters, is costly to victims and too often places citizens and law enforcement in danger.”

The defendants in both California and Oklahoma are being charged with conspiracy to transport stolen catalytic converters, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and other charges. The cases are being investigated by local agencies, the Department of Homeland Security, the IRS, and the FBI.

As for Andrew Vang and Monica Moua, who have already pleaded guilty, each face a maximum prison term of five years. Meanwhile, Tou Sue Vang, who admitted to 40 counts, could receive sentences ranging from 5 to 20 years per count and fines ranging from $250,000 to $500,000 per count or twice the gross gain or loss from the crimes.

11 Nutrient-Dense, Low-Lift Lunch Ideas Recommended by (Brilliant, Busy) Registered Dietitians

Well+Good

Breakfast gets all the attention as the most important meal of the day. And while I don’t want to take away from our morning meal that “breaks the fast” (eating early in the day certainly is important!), a mid-day meal is just as necessary to help sustain us until dinner.

But, for many people, lunch can be a curveball. Whether you’re working from home and find yourself snacking all day without a complete meal, or you simply don’t take the time to cook or prep lunch, this mid-day pick-me-up meal warrants more attention than we give it. After all, many of us who feel the afternoon slump could gain some energy just from eating a balanced lunch meal.

Skipping lunches has been associated with a reduced intake of fruit, vegetables, whole grains, dairy, seafood, and plant protein, which can negatively affect health over time. Plus, people often consume more calories after dinner when skipping breakfast and/or lunch as the body plays “catch up.”

While our culture generally labels dinner as the largest meal of the day, some research has shown that consumption of a higher-energy lunch may result in favorable changes in weight loss and fasting insulin levels.

Time seems to be the name of the game when it comes to working lunches, so say goodbye to hours upon hours of meal prepping on Sundays because these nutrient-dense lunch ideas (all of which are registered dietitian-approved) can be ready in under 15 minutes.

Nutrient-dense lunch ideas RDs swear by

Grain salad

This one is easy to customize based on your preferences or what’s in your pantry. Cook up your favorite grain (such as quinoa, brown rice, or farro), and then pile on a protein and veggies. To save time, use microwave grain options, like Seeds of Change, and a bag of frozen vegetables. Registered dietitian Eden Davis, RDN, recommends a quick meal with brown rice, salmon, edamame, and teriyaki sauce. “Within five minutes, I can chop up salmon into quarter-size pieces, toss in my favorite teriyaki sauce, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and place in the air fryer for 5 minutes before topping with frozen edamame to provide a dish rich in nutrients and a great energy boost.”

Rotisserie chicken salad

If you don’t have the time or patience to cook chicken, opt for a juicy rotisserie chicken that you can throw on nearly everything. Blend with mayo or Greek yogurt, and some spices and spread on sandwich bread or a wrap.

Rice and tuna bowl (chamchi doebbap)

This Korean-inspired dish uses a reheated base of white rice with canned or pouched tuna piled on top. An assortment of vegetables, such as matchstick carrots, kimchi, pickled onions, or radishes, is added on top. “This lunch fulfills my craving for flavorful vegetables, and a drizzle of kewpie mayo and gochujang creates a savory sauce with minimal effort,” says registered dietitian Cara Harbstreet, RD. “In the time it takes to microwave the rice and drain the can of tuna, you can have a satisfying lunch on the table.” Deobbap means “over rice” so any protein can be swapped for tuna, including salmon, leftover rotisserie or baked chicken, eggs, tofu, or shelled edamame.

Stuffed avocado or sweet potato

Take half of an avocado (or a cooked sweet potato), fill it with canned tuna or salmon, and season to your liking. You could also stuff it with cooked beans, rotisserie chicken, or lentils, and top it with cheese, herbs, nuts, or seeds. Serve alongside a salad or with your favorite crunchy veggies or crackers.

Sandwich

Perhaps the ultimate lunch staple, sandwiches can be a great mid-day meal. But, I challenge you to switch up your typical deli sandwich. Opt for some veggies on your egg and cheese sammy, use a spicy cheese with peppers in a grilled cheese chicken sandwich, or smash some chickpeas over a spread of avocado on your sandwich for an upgrade in fiber. You could also swap the bread out for a wrap, naan bread, or English muffin, or try out a new bread, like sourdough, focaccia, or potato bread.

5-minute fajitas

Dietitian Chelsea LeBlanc, RDN, is a fan of the quick fajitas for lunch. “Grab some corn tortillas, frozen fajita veggies, a can of rinsed black beans, and low-sodium taco seasoning,” she says. “Saute the fajita veggies in a little olive oil. Add the black beans and a sprinkle of taco seasoning to the skillet to warm. Add this fiber-rich mixture to the corn tortillas and top with your favorite add-ons like salsa, guac, and cheese.” This filling, budget-friendly lunch is ready in minutes.

Cottage cheese bowl

While cottage cheese may be having its moment right now, it certainly does make for an easy, accessible, high-protein lunch option that can be catered to sweet or savory taste buds. Along with protein, cottage cheese also offers bone-building calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin B12.

“My favorite savory option is a Greek cottage cheese bowl,” says Amy Beney, RD. “On top of a bowl of cottage cheese, I’ll add a mix of whatever veggies are on hand, including tomatoes, peppers, kalamata olives, cucumbers, and seasonings such as Greek, salt, and pepper, to make a super quick, nutrient-packed lunch for a working person.”

Lauren Manaker, RD, is also a fan of the quick and flexible cottage cheese bowl. “I’ll take ½ cup of cottage cheese and add any items from the fridge or pantry—pumpkin seeds, raisins, roasted chickpeas—really anything goes,” she says. “This dish also helps avoid food waste, as it welcomes the use of items that may be thrown away if it is close to their expiration date.”

FYI, Greek yogurt is a great swap for cottage cheese and also adds a boost of probiotics.

Burger quesadillas

Swap out the fast-food or delivery burger with a sweet potato turkey burger. Mashed sweet potatoes add extra antioxidants and fiber, as well as vitamins A and C. Microwave your sweet potatoes for 5–7 minutes, and then scoop out the flesh to mix in with the ground turkey or chicken, and cook for about 5 minutes on each side.

Chili

A fall favorite, chili can be customized just about any way you like. Combine some canned beans, onions, peppers, broth, and crushed tomatoes in a pan or instant pot and cook until flavors mesh. Opt for additional add-ins, like beef, chicken, pumpkin, or sweet potatoes. Throw some crackers on top for a satisfying crunch.

Snack lunch

Take the “girl dinner” Tiktok trend and apply it to lunch. The key is to make it filling and cover all the bases with macronutrients, like protein, fat, and carbohydrates. Mix and match with some of your favorite convenient protein options, such as deli meats, roasted chickpeas, or hard-boiled eggs. Pair them with some crackers, whole grain bread, fruits, or veggies, and add some flavorful fats, like olives, olive oil, cheese, Greek yogurt, nuts, or seeds.

Pasta salad

Pasta salad steals the show as a “picnic food,” but it can also be a fabulous lunch option. With a variety of pasta options available (from protein-enriched to plant-based to gluten-free), pair your favorite cooked pasta with any add-ins on hand—chicken, beans, tofu or seafood are all great options. This hummus pasta salad is a great inspiration. To save time, you could also use a microwaveable, quick-cooking pasta option, like Barilla Ready Pasta.

Toyota Kayoibako Is A Customizable Baby Van Concept For Personal And Business Use

Carscoops

Toyota has detailed another EV from the lineup of concepts it will exhibit at the Japan Mobility Show 2023. The Kayoibako study is a fully electric compact van with a modular interior that can transport wheelchair users, become a camper van, or serve the needs of small businesses transforming into a delivery van, a mobile shop, and a shuttle bus.

The Kayoibako name comes from configurable shipping containers, communicating the versatile nature of the concept. The exterior design is rather simple, with a tall stance, single-box proportions, a split front windshield, futuristic LEDs, sliding doors, and narrow windows.

Besides the white LCV-style spec, Toyota showed different versions of the Kayoibako, highlighting its adaptability. The most interesting is probably the wheelchair-accessible sporty-looking van featuring large-diameter wheels, red brake calipers, lowered suspension, and a black exterior shade. There are also renderings of an adventurous camper with roof-mounted equipment and grippier tires.

More: Toyota Teases FT-Se Electric GR Sports Car And FT-3E Crossover Concepts

The highlight of the concept is the interior and the way it adapts to different use-case scenarios. The “ultra expandable” design as Toyota calls it, allows the single-seater cabin to be tailored for business or personal use, accommodating different kinds of shelves, boxes, or extra seating in the cargo area. Furthermore, clever software can make it a part of “smart grids and other intelligent social systems”.

The interior has a length of 3,127 mm (123.1 inches), a width of 1,485 mm (58.5 inches), and a height of 1,437 mm (56.6 inches). This is quite impressive for a Yaris-sized van that measures 3,990 mm (157.1 inches) long, 1,790 mm (70.5 inches) wide, and 1,855 mm (73 inches) tall with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm (110 inches). The automaker didn’t share much information about the platform or the powertrain, other than saying it is a battery electric, zero-emission vehicle.

It is not clear if the Toyota Kayoibako is a futuristic design study or if it serves as a preview for the automaker’s next-generation LCVs but the research behind it could certainly be used for improving future products.

Citroen Confirms C3 Aircross Replacement With Third-Row Seating

Carscoops

During the presentation of the all-new 2024 Citroen e-C3, the French brand showed a video teaser of a three-row model for the B-SUV segment. Citroen didn’t name the model, but it is clearly the successor of the aging C3 Aircross expected to debut sometime in 2024.

The dark teaser revealed an LED lighting signature that’s very similar to the e-C3, as both are inspired by the Citroen Oli concept. The French B-SUV adopts a taller and boxier stance than the e-C3 as expected, featuring a noticeably longer body compared to its predecessor as noted in our earlier spy stories.

More: Everything We Known About The 2024 Citroen C3 Aircross

advertisement scroll to continue

The highlight of the teaser is the confirmation of the model’s ability to carry 7 passengers in a traditional 2+3+2 layout. This will make the Citroen C3 Aircross the only 7-seater in the segment, offering a chunkier alternative to the Dacia Jogger.

Europe’s Citroen C3 Aircross will be a redesigned version of the New C3 Aircross that was first unveiled in May 2023 for regions like India, South East Asia, and South America. While the two siblings are expected to share a few body panels, the European version is expected to look more modern and pack more comfort, tech, and safety features.

The EU-market C3 Aircross will likely measure close to 4.32 m (170.1 inches) long, which is 170 mm (6.7 inches) longer than its predecessor.

Citroen didn’t go into specifics about the upcoming model, but Carscoops understands it be offered in both fully electric and petrol-powered forms. This is thanks to the adaptability of the “Smart Car platform” introduced in the C3/e-C3, which is likely a derivative of the eCMP/CMP architecture. The same stretched version of the new architecture will be used in the next-gen Opel Crossland, which is also coming in 2024 continuing the sibling relationship with the Citroen C3 Aircross.

Choice Hotels aims to acquire Wyndham in $7.8 billion hostile takeover

The Points Guy

The battle of the budget hotel brands is moving to all-out war.

Choice Hotels, owner of brands like Cambria Hotels and Comfort Inn, announced Tuesday morning a proposal to acquire Wyndham Hotels & Resorts — owner of brands like La Quinta and Ramada — for $7.8 billion. Factoring in Wyndham’s debt, Choice leadership claims the deal values its takeover target at nearly $10 billion.

The company also noted it had been engaged with Wyndham regarding a deal for six months before those talks stalled. Wyndham made a “decision to disengage with further discussions with Choice,” per the announcement.

The potential tie-up, first reported in the Wall Street Journal in May, has been the talk of the hotel industry for months — especially as as competitors like Marriott and Hilton enter the more affordable end of the hotel market where Choice and Wyndham have significant market share.

Choice Hotels would not comment further on the deal, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts did not respond to TPG’s request for comment in time for publication Tuesday. Wyndham CEO Geoff Ballotti declined to answer a reporter’s question regarding the then-rumors of a potential deal during a press roundtable at a recent Wyndham owners’ conference in Southern California.

“We have long respected Wyndham’s business and are confident that this combination would significantly accelerate both Choice’s and Wyndham’s long-term organic growth strategy for the benefit of all stakeholders,” Choice Hotels CEO Patrick Pacious said in a statement. “For franchisees, the transaction would bring Choice’s proven franchisee success system to a broader set of owners, enabling them to benefit from Choice’s world-class reservation platform and proprietary technology to drive cost savings and greater investment returns.”

“Additionally, the value-driven leisure and business traveler would benefit from the combined company’s rewards program, which would be on par with the top two global hotel rewards programs, enabling them to receive greater value and access to a broader selection of options across stay occasions and price points.”

Pacious alluded to the now-hostile takeover nature of his company’s bid for Wyndham and noted that, a few weeks ago, the two companies were “in a negotiable range on price and consideration” over the deal before Wyndham walked away. The Choice CEO claimed both companies saw value in the deal.

“While we would have preferred to continue discussions with Wyndham in private, following their unwillingness to proceed, we feel there is too much value for both companies’ franchisees, shareholders, associates and guests to not continue pursuing this transaction,” Pacious said. “Importantly, we remain convinced of both the many benefits of the combination and our ability to complete it.”

Why a Choice and Wyndham marriage makes sense

Choice and Wyndham joining forces makes sense in a world where companies like Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt and IHG Hotels & Resorts are all signaling in various ways a need to compete in more affordably priced territory.

Most investor analysts saw the arrival of Hilton’s new premium economy Spark brand as one that would start to siphon business away from Choice and Wyndham, and they’re not wrong: The first Spark hotel was formerly a Days Inn, a brand owned by Wyndham. Having a larger combined company would help Choice and Wyndham defend their turf, so to speak.

Choice Hotels appeared to allude to those concerns by noting the combined company’s rewards program would be on par with the world’s largest loyalty programs. Hilton leadership has been vocal about using Spark as an affordable entry point into the Hilton Honors ecosystem.

From Choice’s perspective, it also rounds out a robust acquisition streak, as the company last year acquired Radisson’s Americas operation — bringing in a mix of affordable and mid-tier brands like Country Inn & Suites as well as higher-end offerings like Radisson and Radisson Blu.

Wyndham’s brand portfolio skews heavily toward midscale and economy brands, but there is also the Wyndham Alltra all-inclusive brand as well as the luxury Registry Collection Hotels imprint.

What travelers could get from the deal

Choice Hotels touted the combined company would offer a rewards and loyalty program on par “with the top two global programs in hospitality” — Marriott and Hilton — and will offer “best-in-class” program benefits.

Choice also touted the expanded reach of the combined company. Wyndham, along with its Americas reach, has a significant global presence throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Further, the combined operation would mean there are more options for customers to stay in the Choice-Wyndham ecosystem while traveling.

The longstanding logic in hotel ownership is that one of the worst things that can happen would be to have a loyalty customer go to a city where your company doesn’t have a hotel, try the competition and then never come back to one of your hotels.

While a deal between Wyndham and Choice doesn’t appear certain, it definitely appears Wall Street likes the sound of it: Shares of Wyndham’s stock briefly surged in pre-market trading Tuesday morning.
