Rising political stars on the right and left: 12 people to watch in 2023

Latest & Breaking News on Fox News

The new year and new Congress add up-and-coming political figures, as well as familiar faces with changing roles, to the list of those who have the potential to shape the future of politics.

In no particular order, here are a dozen Republican and Democratic rising political stars to watch in 2023.

Combat veteran Wes Moore made history in the 2022 midterms as the first Black governor elected in Maryland.

Before breaking onto the political scene, Moore was a best-selling author and CEO of Robin Hood Foundation, an anti-poverty nonprofit organization. Following his election, Moore was nominated as finance chair of the Democratic Governors Association.

Endorsed by Oprah Winfrey and President Joe Biden, the Democrat made a splash last cycle, winning his first ever bid for political office and remaining a clear rising figure in his party.

Elected as the third black governor in U.S. history, Moore was compared to former President Barack Obama throughout his campaign and has been championed for a future White House run.

At 44 years old, Moore could have a long career in politics, potentially in Congress and beyond.

BIDEN’S YEAR OF FORGETTING, GOING THW WRONG WAY AND SAYING THE WRONG THING

Republican Sen. Steve Daines has represented Montana in the Senate since 2014 and is currently serving his second term.

After years of legislative success, pushing for stricter border security and advocating for Second Amendment rights, Daines was elected as chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) in the new Congress.

As NRSC chair, the fifth-generation Montanan will be in charge of unseating his own state’s current Democratic senator, Jon Tester, who is up for re-election next cycle. Senate Republicans have a favorable map in 2024 and Daines declared he will do “whatever it takes to makes sure we have a Republican majority.”

With experience under his belt and the new leadership role, Daines will be at the forefront of GOP decision-making, elections and overall shaping of the party.

Maxwell Frost recently entered the political scene, becoming the first Gen Z congressman at only 25 years old.

Frost is one of the survivors of the horrific mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglass School in Parkland, Florida, and has since been a vocal supporter of stricter gun control measures.

Frost was elected to represent Florida’s 10th Congressional District and is making a name for himself as one of the newest recruits of the progressive group known as “The Squad.”

FARMER PREDICTS WORSE FOOD SHORTAGES, HIGHER PRICES IN 2023 AMID INFLATION, DROUGHT, INTEREST RATE HIKES

The young Democrat is expected to work closely with well-known Squad members Reps. Alexandra Ocasio Cortez, D-N.Y., and Cori Bush, D-Mo., and given his age, will likely be a strong voice among young voters.

The incoming Republican congressman wants to reach across the aisle, and after a huge upset victory in the Empire State, he appears to have the Democratic Party’s attention.

In a surprise victory, Mike Lawler unseated DCCC Chair Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, D-N.Y., in the midterm race to represent New York’s 17th Congressional District. The defeat marked the first time the chair of a House campaign committee was unseated since the 1990s.

Lawler, a former New York assemblyman, vowed to take a bipartisan approach in his new role and was endorsed by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, D-Calif.

Throughout his campaign, Lawler supported a gas tax holiday and a 10% property tax exemption for volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel, pushed back against age-inappropriate curriculum within school districts, and backed securing the southern border.

Sen.-elect John Fetterman served as mayor of Braddock, Pennsylvania, for 13 years before exiting the steel town to become the state’s lieutenant governor.

His midterm election was one of the most closely watched races of the 2022 cycle. Despite suffering a stroke in May, which caused Fetterman to have severe auditory processing issues and little public engagement for the closing months of his campaign, the Democrat ultimately prevailed and defeated his Republican challenger in the race.

Following his election, the hoodie-wearing Harvard graduate was named one of The New York Times 2022 “Most Stylish” individuals.

THE BIGGEST POLITICAL WINNERS IN 2022: DESANTIS, FETTERMAN SCORE BIG VICTORIES

Born and raised in Houston, Congressman-elect Wesley Hunt flipped Texas’ 38th Congressional District red in the 2022 midterms.

Hunt served one combat deployment to Iraq and as a diplomatic liaison officer during two deployments to Saudi Arabia.

“Changing Washington won’t be easy, but graduating from West Point and serving in the United States Army, being deployed to combat zones, and flying Apache helicopters over Iraq has prepared me for tough fights and big challenges. I truly believe nothing is more worth fighting for than our great country and our way of life in the Houston area,” Hunt states on his election website.

The City of Angels has a lot of cleaning up to do, and Democratic Mayor-elect Karen Bass was elected to take on the job.

In November, Bass was elected as the first female mayor of Los Angeles, California, after representing California’s 33rd and 37th Congressional Districts in Congress for several years. She was also on a short list to be President Biden’s vice presidential nominee in the 2020 election.

Born and raised in the city, Bass jumped into the activism scene early, founding the Community Coalition and the Los Angeles-based National Foster Youth Institute.

Aside from her social work, Bass has a long history of representative experience, serving as chair of the Congressional Black Caucus and chair of the Crime Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee.

Over the next few years, Bass will take on the challenge of reshaping the famous California city that currently faces high rates of homelessness and rising crime, while remaining one of America’s most popular tourist destinations.

In November, Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Jack Smith as the special counsel to the Justice Department.

Smith was named to oversee the criminal investigation into documents obtained during a raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.

WHO IS SPECIAL COUNSEL JACK SMITH, APPOINTED TO INVESTIGATE TRUMP?

Before being named to oversee investigations into Trump, Smith was the chief prosecutor for the special court in The Hague, assigned with investigating war crimes committed during the Kosovo War during the late 1990s.

“I will exercise independent judgment and will move the investigations forward expeditiously and thoroughly to whatever outcome the facts and the law dictate,” Smith said after being appointed.

Smith will be at the center of deciding the fate of the former president, as the ongoing investigations into Trump continue.

Incoming Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries selected DelBene to become chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee to lead the attempt to win the Democrats control of the House in the 2024 election.

THIS ‘SUPERSTAR LOSER’ TOPS THE LIST OF 2022’S BIGGEST LOSERS IN POLITICS

DelBene has served in Congress since 2012 and is the current vice chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, as well as chair of the New Democrat Coalition.

Rep. DelBene was one of the three House members who supported the rule change to allow the House leader to nominate someone as chair.

If confirmed by the Democratic Caucus, her vote for the rule change could be one the smartest decisions of her political career.

Majorie Dannenfelser is leading the charge in post-Roe politics. Dannenfelser is currently the president of pro-life group Susan B. Anothony Pro-Life America, which worked diligently to elect pro-life candidates up and down the ballot in the 2022 midterm elections, and will continue their fight into 2023 and beyond.

In June, after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and returned the power to place bans on abortion back to the states, many conservatives sought stricter bans on abortion while the GOP also defended letting states decide abortion rules without federal intervention.

Dannenfelser will be at the center of the abortion debate in future local and national elections, and will likely play an influential role in the 2024 presidential election.

After accepting the position to become president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), one of the most popular governors in America will step into a landmine of unresolved issues that will test his executive skills.

VOTERS WANT OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW FOR PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES IN 2024 ELECTION: POLL

Though Baker’s term as governor ends in January, the Republican will continue to shape the future of American sports.

Transgender athletes, legalized gambling on college sports, and students being allowed to market themselves and be paid for their performance in amateur sports are just a few of the complex controversies waiting for him when he takes over the NCAA on March 1.

“As governor of Massachusetts and a successful private sector CEO, Charlie Baker has demonstrated the type of results-oriented, bipartisan approach that we will need to bolster the well-being of student-athletes, realize the opportunities and overcome the challenges facing the NCAA,” Grant Hill, an independent member of the NCAA Board of Governors, said of Baker’s new role.

Sheriff Joe Lombardo unseated Nevada’s Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak in the 2022 midterm elections, the only gubernatorial pickup for Republicans.

After serving more than two decades in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Lombardo was elected as Clark County sheriff in 2014.

Despite being endorsed by Trump, Lombardo later backed off his support of the former president’s repeated claims that his 2020 was “stolen.”

“After four years of Steve Sisolak’s small business and job-killing policies, Gov.-elect Lombardo’s unique perspective as a seasoned law enforcement officer and fiscal conservative will get the state moving in the right direction on behalf of all Nevada families,” Republican Gubernatorial Association co-chairs Govs. Doug Ducey and Pete Ricketts said after Lombardo’s successful election.

Now that 2023 is here, Apple’s innovative team plans to outdo themselves once again with some insanely cool new products that many are sure to want to get their hands on. Check out what could be coming up next below.

BEST SMART THERMOSTATS TO KEEP YOU AT THE PERFECT TEMPERATURE

It’s expected that Apple will release a new version of their iPhone device, and it’s coming in the form of the iPhone 15. This new smartphone is rumored to have a few of the features of the iPhone 14 Pro, including a 48MP camera and 4nm A16 chip.

Along with the regular iPhone 15, Apple is expected to release more advanced versions with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra. The Pro model is expected to have an A17 chip and periscope camera upgrade, while the Ultra will be the most elite model with a titanium frame in addition to a periscope zoom.

3 BIG MISTAKES THAT CAN GIVE SCAMMERS ACCESS TO YOUR BANK ACCOUNTS

It’s rumored that the Ultra model will cost as much as $1,299, so start saving up for it now.

Apple’s Mixed Reality Headset is one of their most exciting new developments coming in 2023. It will reportedly have 12 cameras to track your movements and surroundings and will have both virtual and augmented reality options.

This will have top-of-the-line tech, including an Apple M2 chip with 16GB RAM and a 4K display for each eye. The only downside is that with all this fancy technology? The headset is expected to cost anywhere between $2,000 to $3,000. But with all those cool additions, it might be worth the price!

Apple stepped up to the plate with the release of the Apple Watch 8 Series, and they plan to do it again with the Apple Watch 9. No official rumors have come out about this product yet, but Apple typically has released a new series of watches every September since the release of the first watch back in 2015, so it’s expected for them to do the same in September of 2023.

WHAT IS THE GOOGLE HOME SYSTEM? WAYS FOR IT TO TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE

It’s possible that these new watches could include the blood sugar and blood pressure level sensors that Apple has been working hard to include, but no other word yet on if this is a possibility.

Rumors are already surfacing about what’s next for the Apple iPad series after the successful release of the iPad Pro lineup in 2022. There is talk of models that could measure 14 and 16 inches, making them much more similar to a MacBook. A reputable source is predicting a refreshed iPad Mini in 2023.

It’s unclear whether the new models will be released simultaneously or separately. There are also talks of an iPad speaker dock being released eventually, which would put it in tougher competition with products like Echo Snow and Google Nest Hub.

The new MacBook Pro M2 laptops are expected to be released in early 2023 with both 14 and 16-inch models. There will be both M2 Pro and M2 Max chip options, which should up the power, speed, and efficiency of these new devices. Speculation is also growing with the release of a Mac mini product, as well as an iMac Pro device, which would be bigger than Apple’s biggest 24-inch MacBook.

All that has been confirmed in the world of AirPods is that Apple plans on releasing a new USB-C charging case for all AirPod models next year. But as far as a new line of AirPod headphones, there isn’t much information out there yet. If Apple does decide to drop some information, it is expected for the new line to have improved noise cancellation, USB charging, and spatial audio.

Alabama stars Bryce Young, Will Anderson Jr. declare for NFL Draft after Sugar Bowl victory

Latest & Breaking News on Fox News

Bryce Young and Will Anderson Jr., two stars on Alabama’s 2022 Sugar Bowl-winning roster, appeared ready to take the next steps in their football careers and declared for the NFL Draft on Monday.

Young and Anderson chose to play in the Sugar Bowl and helped the Crimson Tide top Kansas State 45-20 on Saturday. Alabama failed to make it to the College Football Playoff after dropping two games during the regular season. Neither player needed to participate in the game but did so anyway.

Young, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2021, was 15-of-21 with 321 passing yards and five touchdown passes in the win. Anderson, who is a two-time SEC Defensive Player of the Year and two-time Bronko Nagurski Trophy winner, played in the game against the Wildcats but did not record any stats.

Running back Jahmyr Gibbs also announced he was leaving school to enter the NFL Draft. Gibbs had 76 rushing yards against Kansas State. He added two catches for 66 yards as well.

Young and Anderson are expected to be off the board early come the 2023 draft – at least according to early projections.

MICHIGAN’S ROMAN WILSON UPSET OVER ‘BULLS—‘ OVERTURNED TOUCHDOWN CALL VS TCU

Young finished the season with 3,328 passing yards and 32 touchdown passes. He missed some time due to an injury in the middle of the season. Anderson racked up 51 tackles, 10 sacks and an interception during the season. Both players are juniors but have graduated early.

“I’m very proud of the way these guys have represented the program, not only the way they played on the field but the kind of character as people, the academic success that they’ve had,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said.

“These guys showed tremendous leadership and character to make a decision to play in the Sugar Bowl, which I think impacted the entire team with the example that they set.”

Some early mock drafts have had Young go No. 1 to the Houston Texans while others have Anderson at the top spot. Both are seen as potential top-five selections.

Gibbs could be a late first-round selection or even fall to the second round. Bijan Robinson is considered to be one of the best running backs in the upcoming draft class.

Marvel actor Jeremy Renner is in a critical but stable condition in hospital after an accident occurred while he was ploughing snow.

A spokesperson for the star told Deadline the 51-year-old was airlifted to hospital on Sunday after the incident at his home near Reno, Nevada.

They added that Renner was “receiving excellent care” following the “weather-related accident”.

Dozens of people have been killed across the US amid blizzard conditions.

The winter storm also caused power cuts and forced the cancellation of thousands of flights.

Local public information officer Kristin Vietti told The Hollywood Reporter that Renner was taken to a local hospital and that he was the only one involved in the accident.

Vietnam rescuers race to save boy trapped down 115-foot concrete hole since New Year’s Eve

Latest & Breaking News on Fox News

Hundreds of rescuers in Vietnam were battling for a third day Monday to save a 10-year-old boy who fell more than a hundred feet down a concrete shaft at a construction site New Year’s Eve.

The boy was reportedly heard calling for help shortly after he fell through a narrow, 25-centimeter wide open shaft of a concrete pile at a bridge construction site in the Mekong delta province Saturday morning while searching for scrap metal with friends.

But as of Monday, he hasn’t been responding to rescuers, who lowered a camera to help locate the boy’s position down the estimated 115-foot-long support pillar, according to Reuters.

Efforts to lift the pile with cranes and pillars have so far been unsuccessful.

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA ‘INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT’ LEAVES 3 DEAD, OTHERS INJURED AT CONSTRUCTION SITE

“I cannot understand how he fell into the hollow concrete pile, which has a diameter of a (25 cm) span only, and was driven 35 meters into the ground,” Le Hoang Bao, director of Dong Thap province’s Department of Transport, told Tuoi Tre News, a local newspaper, according to Reuters.

The newspaper reported that rescuers “are not sure about the current condition of the boy,” as he “has stopped interacting with the outside though oxygen had always been pumped into the” hole.

AFP identified the trapped 10-year-old as Thai Ly Hao Nam. Video showed the boy’s distraught family members being carried from the scene while awaiting news on his condition.

Crews have also been drilling and softening the surrounding soil to attempt – so far without success — to pull up the concrete pillar.

According to AFP, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Monday tapped federal rescuers to join local authorities’ efforts to save the boy.

Latest & Breaking News on Fox News

There are few better feelings than coming home at the end of the day and being greeted by our four-legged friends – especially if her name is Rosie – Until you notice she’s wreaked havoc on the house.

That’s why you see so many people taking their furry friends with them wherever they go, for the companionship of course, and the dog isn’t left alone all day, also putting their minds at ease that their home will be intact just as they left it.

Whether you can take your dog out and about with you or you have to leave them alone while you are gone, all pet owners should consider investing in 5 items for their homes and vehicles to help keep their pets safe and houses and cars tidy.

Let’s start with the car. As fun as it can be for yourself and others to bring your dog with you on car trips, be they for a quick errand or a road trip, letting them roam around the front or back seat isn’t the safest for them or you. I highly recommend car harnesses to help keep you and your dog safe and comfortable while on the road. Among them is the Kurgo Dog Harness.

One of the biggest fears of leaving our dog – especially if they are a puppy – at home is that they’ve torn our favorite rug, pillow, blanket, or shoes to shreds. That’s where a no-chew spray with a bitter, unpleasant taste comes in handy.

WHITE SHEPHERD DOG IN HAMPTONS LOOKING FOR HER FOREVER HOME: ‘GIVE HER A CHANCE’

It will discourage them from putting their mouths around said item again. And fear not, these sprays are 100% harmless to dogs, with some of them even made with all-natural ingredients, including Feulover Bitter-Apple-Spray-for-Dogs.

Many dog owners want to give themselves and their pets fresh air by using screen doors. Not all screens are as durable as they appear. In some cases, hoping to reach that squirrel they saw, dogs will claw and/or chew right through the screen. This is why investing in a tear-proof screen might come in handy, such as Saint-Gobain pet screen.

Best ever car purchase from puppy to adult-aged dogs. This nearly indestructible back seat. hammock protects seats, interior sides and confines your dog in a safe zone making everyone happy on the road.

Most of us treat our dogs as if they were our children. And with young children around, it’s important to put safety locks on drawers, cabinets, and other places where they could potentially hurt themselves.

Dogs are no different. Placing a safety lock on a garbage can will likely prevent your canine companion from rummaging through the trash, leaving you an unpleasant mess to clean up. The locks I highly recommend are Jool Child safety strap locks.

Democrat Katie Hobbs Takes Office as Arizona Governor

USA – Voice of America

Katie Hobbs took the oath of office Monday to become Arizona’s 24th governor and the first Democrat to hold the office since 2009.

Hobbs was sworn in during a private ceremony at the state Capitol as she formally took over from Republican Doug Ducey. A public inauguration for the governor and others taking statewide offices is scheduled for Thursday.

Hobbs was surrounded by her parents, husband and two children as she took the oath of office in the lobby of the governor’s office on the ninth floor of the executive tower on the Capitol grounds, according to a livestream of the event, which was not open to the public or media. Her mother’s joyous tears distracted the incoming governor, who paused to joke, “stop it, Mom!”

Afterward, she posed for photos with her family and signed a certificate.

Hobbs is the outgoing secretary of state and was previously a state legislator who rose to be the top Democrat in the Senate. As governor, she’ll have to work with a House and Senate narrowly controlled by Republicans. The new Legislature convenes for the first time next week.

Hobbs assumes control of a state with a strong economy and a solid financial position, with a large budget surplus forecast for the next fiscal year.

But there are headwinds on the horizon. Phoenix has some of the nation’s highest inflation levels and housing costs have soared as rapid population growth has outpaced home construction, belying the state’s reputation for affordability. And the water supply is constrained by drought.

Hobbs narrowly defeated Republican Kari Lake, a former television anchor who was backed by former President Donald Trump. She excited conservatives with her staunch backing of Trump, including his claims about the 2020 election, and her strong criticism of mask mandates and business closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But she struggled to connect with Arizona’s general electorate, which has repeatedly eschewed Republicans closely aligned with Trump going back to the 2018 midterms.

Hobbs is the fifth woman to be Arizona governor. The last Democratic governor was Janet Napolitano, who resigned in January 2009 to be U.S. Homeland Security secretary under President Barack Obama. She was replaced by Republican Governor Jan Brewer.

The Arizona Constitution says state officers take their position on the first Monday in January. While Hobbs took office on schedule, the public ceremony was delayed because Monday is the observed New Year holiday.

Also formally taking office Monday were Democrats Adrian Fontes as secretary of state and Kris Mayes as attorney general, both of whom defeated Trump-backed Republicans who refused to concede and unsuccessfully challenged their losses in court. Mayes’s 280-vote victory was among the closest statewide races in Arizona history.

Kimberly Yee was sworn in for her second term as state treasurer and Tom Horne as superintendent of public instruction, a role he filled for two terms beginning in 2003. Paul Marsh was sworn in as mine inspector. Yee, Horne and Marsh are Republicans.

For Hobbs, the oath of office was administered by Roopali Desai, a recently confirmed judge of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals who previously represented Democrats in election cases and Hobbs as secretary of state.

Chief Justice Robert Brutinel swore in the other state officers.

6 new American pickups coming in 2023

Latest & Breaking News on Fox News

It’s looking like 2023 will be the year of the pickup in the U.S.

America’s automakers are hauling out a wide variety of new trucks this year.

From midsize models to all-electric full-size haulers and the strangest pickup ever conceived, it’s set to be a bumper crop of interesting vehicles.

Here’s a look at what’s heading for showrooms:

Ford’s midsize pickup is getting its first redesign since returning to the U.S. in 2019. Full details on the truck have not been released, but it will be offered for the first time in a high-performance Raptor model that’s been revealed in foreign markets with a 392 hp turbocharged V6 engine and a suspension designed for high-speed, off-road driving.

The Ranger’s twin crosstown rivals from GM are also all-new for 2023, with the Canyon featuring a more upscale style and prices over $60,000 for top models.

All the trucks will come with a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that will be offered with power outputs ranging from 237 hp in the base Colorado to 310 hp with 430 lb-ft of torque in the Raptor-esqe Colorado ZR2 and Canyon AT4X high performance models.

GM will be taking on the Ford F-150 Lightning with two new all-electric pickups that will be available in models with over 400 miles of driving range and a towing capacity of up to 10,000 pounds.

The fleet-oriented Silverado EV WT (work truck) will start at a $41,595 while the 754 hp Silverado EV RST and GMC Sierra EV Denali will be priced over $100,000. Both brand’s models share the same Ultium electric vehicle platform, but feature significantly different body styles. The Silverado’s roofline angles into the bed with buttresses, while the Sierra’s has a more classic pickup profile.

Tesla’s unusual pickup was revealed in concept form way back in 2019, but is finally scheduled to enter production late this year. Originally advertised at a starting price of $39,900 for a base model and $69,900 for a tri-motor version capable of accelerating to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and towing 14,000 pounds, all pricing information has since been removed from the website.

Prototypes of the truck have been seen testing, however, and Tesla has started installing the giant “gigapress” machines that will stamp its “exoskeleton” body.

How Mike Pence can convince America he’s the president it needs

Just In | The Hill

One thing I should have learned from my 28 years in Congress and the 15 years before that in the maelstrom of New York politics and government is that political life is very tough and all-consuming; especially at the national level. Now that I’m away from the incessant turbulence of campaigning and can wake up in the morning knowing I can go back to sleep and not have to worry during the day about prying reporters or angry constituents, I am increasingly aware of how unnatural the political world can be — and usually is.

This was reinforced for me during a recent meeting and subsequent radio interview with former Vice President, Mike Pence. The meeting was in the fifth-floor Manhattan office of the Red Apple companies headed by John Catsimatidis, one of New York’s most successful entrepreneurs and business leaders. Among John’s companies is 77WABC Radio, which has become a major political force in New York. (Full disclosure: I am a 77WABC contributor and co-host and consider Mike Pence a good friend.)

The meeting with the former vice president was the latest of many that Catsimatidis has had with prospective national and statewide candidates and political heavyweights. Joining him were a number of key executives,  staff members and Sid Rosenberg, who hosts the station’s most popular show.

It went well from the start. Though his questions about a possible presidential candidacy were probing, Catsimatidis made clear his admiration and respect for Pence. As did all the participants. Pence’s demeanor was calm and relaxed and his answers were thoughtful and coherent.

Following the 50-minute meeting John, Mike Pence, Sid Rosenberg and I took the elevator down to the 77WABC studio on the second floor to record interviews with Sid for “Sid and Friends” and John and me for “Cats at Night.” On both floors, there were the requisite photos with staff members, studio workers and technicians. Mike Pence handled it all with smiles and good humor. Then he was off to his next engagement with his four stall assistants.

All of this sounds calm and rational. But think of how many times Mike Pence must go through this drill. How many business and political leaders, how many special interest advocates and former politicians must Mike Pence meet and how many radio and television interviews must he do realizing that one word or expressed thought taken out of context could endanger or even torpedo his possible campaign? How many big cities, suburban centers and small towns must he visit? How many early mornings and late nights will he have?

How will he keep to his endless schedule? I couldn’t help but notice the understandably tense looks on the faces of the Pence assistants trying to keep him at least reasonably close to his schedule without offending anyone at these meetings while thinking about how they will explain his lateness at the next meeting and the meetings after that.

Mike Pence’s real challenges though as he thinks through a presidential run are:

Figuring out how to claim justifiable credit for his real contributions to the Trump-Pence administration while disclaiming the Trump excesses, particularly the shameful events of Jan. 6, where Pence acted with courage and honor, and;

Understanding how, in a time of political anger and rage, such a sharply divided nation be persuaded to get behind a candidate of experience, knowledge and calm demeanor.

These challenges must be met while enduring the exhausting rigors of endless travel, interminable meetings, raising campaign funds and unexpected news stories about the latest misadventures of Donald Trump. It won’t be easy: It will certainly be difficult. But I, for one, hope that Mike Pence stays in the arena, perseveres and makes the run.
