LAURA INGRAHAM: Whatever you think of the Freedom Caucus or McCarthy, this is a numbers game

Latest & Breaking News on Fox News

Fox News host Laura Ingraham lays out three ways the House GOP can go about choosing a speaker amid Republicans’ standstill on “The Ingraham Angle.”

LAURA INGRAHAM: There are three scenarios basically that are possible now. One, the Freedom Caucus basically takes McCarthy’s concessions as a win and enough of them support him for speaker. Number two, McCarthy could withdraw and allow another candidate for speaker to be proposed, one who presumably could get 218 votes. We’ve heard a number of people’s name mentioned, Steve Scalise is one of them, but others could emerge as well. There’s a third scenario. Moderate and establishment Republicans could strike a deal with Democrats whereby McCarthy or another Republican actually gets to be called speaker, but essentially both parties share power on the committees.

MCCARTHY, HOUSE FREEDOM CAUCUS DISCUSSING CONCESSIONS IN EFFORT TO SWAY 20 REPUBLICAN VOTERS

The folks opposing McCarthy ought to realize that they are playing with fire here. And you have to think of it this way: Did any of them, when they were campaigning, promise the voters that in the event that they had the majority in the House, they would be willing to turn power over to the Democrats if they didn’t get their way on a number of points? I’m not saying the points aren’t important, but I don’t think they campaigned on that, even though they campaigned on principle. And what do they think the voters are going to say, though, if that is what happens in the end? And at some point, if this goes on day after day, after day, there may be other problems and I’m talking serious problems that the Republicans could get blamed for.

On this day in history, Jan. 6, 1941, FDR delivers Four Freedoms speech, steeling Americans for World War II

Latest & Breaking News on Fox News

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt issued a dramatic call to the American people to protect and defend four universal human ideals in his State of the Union address on this day in history, Jan. 6, 1941.

The speech came amid the frightening and seemingly unstoppable march of military tyranny around the world.

Now known as the Four Freedoms speech, FDR’s remarks that day served as a spiritual call to arms for the American people who, before the year was out, would be thrust violently into World War II.

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY, JAN. 5, 1933, CONSTRUCTION BEGINS ON GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE AMID GREAT FANFARE

Roosevelt cited freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from want and freedom from fear, as warfare consumed much of the rest of the planet.

More than 400,000 Americans would give their lives to the cause of those Four Freedoms in all corners of the planet by the end of World War II in 1945.

“Armed defense of democratic existence is now being gallantly waged in four continents,” Roosevelt told both houses of Congress in his eighth State of the Union speech.

“If that defense fails, all the population and all the resources of Europe, and Asia, and Africa and Australasia will be dominated by conquerors.”

NEW COVID OMICRON SUBVARIANT XBB.1.5 IS ‘SPREADING LIKE WILDFIRE’ IN US: HEALTH EXPERTS REVEAL WHY

Nazi Germany by early 1941 had conquered most of Europe and North Africa.

It was pulverizing London and other major British cities by air attack daily and was about to launch a deep foray into the Soviet Union.

Imperial Japan by early 1941 had occupied or conquered the Korean Peninsula, Taiwan, Southeast Asia and much of Mainland China, committing horrific atrocities along the way.

Japan by the end of the year would launch a massive multi-prong offensive across Asia and the Pacific, including its Dec. 7 attack on Pearl Harbor.

FDR’s speech dug deep into the foundational values of the Declaration of Independence.

The president was preparing the American people for their inevitable entry into the global conflict by appealing to the nation’s most deeply cherished values.

The speech included a more practical appeal to congressional leaders and the nation to ramp up wartime industries in preparation for the coming conflict.

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY, JAN. 4, 1965, LJB TOUTS UTOPIAN ‘GREAT SOCIETY’ IN STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS

The Four Freedoms, Roosevelt said, are “no vision of a distant millennium. It is a definite basis for a kind of world attainable in our own time and generation. That kind of world is the very antithesis of the so-called new order of tyranny which the dictators seek to create with the crash of a bomb.”

Roosevelt’s address inspired a series of”Four Freedom” paintings by artist Norman Rockwell, which he produced in 1942 following America’s entry into the war.

His richly human images powerfully captured values which propelled the United States into World War II. The Rockwell paintings are still commonly seen on social media today, often serving as memes or to illustrated political causes.

One popular image, “Freedom of Speech,” shows a man in work clothes, dutifully stepping up to be heard at a town meeting. Another, “Freedom from Want,” shows a family happily awaiting a bountiful holiday dinner.

Rockwell was already engaged in illustrating images for the war effort on behalf of the US government, but “wanted to do more,” writes the Normal Rockwell Museum.

He “decided he would illustrate Roosevelt’s four freedoms. While mulling it over, Rockwell, by chance, attended a town meeting where one man rose among his neighbors and voiced an unpopular view. That night Rockwell awoke with the realization that he could paint the freedoms best from the perspective of his own hometown experiences using every day, simple scenes such as his own town meeting.”

The paintings were published by the Saturday Evening Post in February 1943.

They quickly became iconic images that captured the purpose of the war for millions of Americans in a few homespun images.

“The paintings were a phenomenal success,” the Norman Rockwell Museum states.

“After their publication, the Post received 25,000 requests for reprints.”

The government originally rejected his offer to use them for the war effort. But the overwhelming popularity inspired a sudden change of heart.

Federal officials adopted the illustrations as part of the national effort to sell war bonds and stamps to fund the march to victory.

“There is only one speech in American history that inspired a multitude of books and films, the establishment of its own park, a series of paintings by a world-famous artist, a prestigious international award and a United Nation’s resolution on Human Rights,” Paul M. Sparrow wrote on behalf of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum.

“The words of the speech are enshrined in marble at Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island in New York, are visualized in the paintings of Norman Rockwell, inspired the international Four Freedoms Award and are the foundation for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations in 1948.”

Following victory by the U.S. and its Allies in World War II, constitutional republics were adopted by former military powers Germany, Japan and scores of other nations around the world.

Millions of people could now enjoy for the first time ever the freedoms expressed by Roosevelt on Jan. 6, 1941, at the cost of hundreds of thousands of American lives.

GREG GUTFELD: ‘Two-faced’ Kathy Hochul is begging taxpayers she once mocked to come back

Latest & Breaking News on Fox News

You are —- stop it, stop it, you’re making me blush all over. Could be the hives. So happy Thursday, everyone. I love Thursdays because they’re like Tuesday’s hotter, mysterious cousin. Whereas Tuesday says, “Sorry, guys, I have to stay in and do my homework.” Thursday is like, “Hey, what are you doing later? Why don’t you swing by my van and we can party? I just had the upholstery Scotchguarded.” Speaking of parties, what a transition. This week we saw an amazing contrast to two governors and their inauguration speeches. While one spoke of celebrating policies that led to unprecedented population growth, the other groveled to citizens she once mocked for leaving her state. First, the Empress of Eyebrows, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, vowing to make her state a better place to live. Well, as soon as she figures out who replaced your Botox with Krazy Glue. Roll it.

NYPD SEARCHING FOR SUSPECTS WANTED FOR STRING OF ARMED ROBBERIES ACROSS NYC

GOV. KATHY HOCHUL, D-N.Y.: We must and will make our state safer. This means New Yorkers can walk our streets and ride our subways, our kids can go to school free from fear… We have to make our state more affordable… New Yorkers are just struggling to pay rent, food and gas to get to their jobs. They’re hurting… And we must reverse the trend of people leaving our state in search of lower costs and opportunities elsewhere.

Yeah, so she’s ordered the National Guard to bomb Florida and Texas. She has no other solutions. But she now admits people are leaving in search of lower costs and opportunities elsewhere. I guess that includes the opportunity to not get stabbed or pushed in front of a subway, activities that blossomed under her watch as she continues to defend no cash bail. Of course, this is the same jackass who just a few months ago told unhappy New Yorkers to beat it to Florida. Turns out she was giving them good advice.

GOV. KATHY HOCHUL, D-N.Y.: And we’re here to say that the era of Trump and Zeldin and Molinaro, just jump on a bus and head down to Florida where you belong. Okay. Get out of town, get out of town.

NYPD SEARCHING FOR SUSPECTS WANTED FOR STRING OF ARMED ROBBERIES ACROSS NYC

Yeah, notice how she said bus. Even she knows that thanks to her higher taxes and gas prices, we can’t afford to fly or drive. So the message was clear. Take a hike if you disagree with my views, and if you’re headed to The Villages, bring a lot of condoms —- believe me, I’ve been there. But now that this hypocrite is in office, she’s begging all those taxpayers that she once mocked to come back, she’s like a blubbering ex, pleading for forgiveness after dumping you and then seeing you suddenly date a richer, healthier partner. Hmm. I’d say she’s two faced, which is good.

Since, the one she already has is stretched too thin. And as usual, the media is letting this slide. Check out this headline from The New York Times, “At inauguration Hochul vows to make New York safer and more affordable.” Wait, you mean like Florida or Texas? Or at this rate, Somalia? What a stupid headline. That’s like saying, after killing his wife. O.J. hopes to let his next wife live. Yeah. Thank you…

TYRUS: He was acquitted by his peers.

You’re right. You’re right. But where did Dems like Hochul think this was headed? Did they think people would be forever okay with living in this liberal hellhole? “Oh, but no, New York has such great theater.” That’s true, but it’s hard to take your sister to see Revival of Miss Saigon starring Jim Belushi, if she’s recovering from a stabbing in Times Square. Fact is, policies like punishing tax rates, rising crime and overbearing COVID restrictions created a place so bad that the only way to keep residents from leaving is if there’s a Berlin Wall around them. And now they act like they don’t see this coming.

FLORIDA IS THE FASTEST-GROWING STATE IN THE US FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1957: CENSUS BUREAU

Sorry, Hochul, you can’t say your eyes weren’t wide open. I’m not letting this go. It’s obvious I miss Stelter. Because it’s not the guy begging for change in Times Square who left town, it’s the people who used to toss the guy a buck who left. It’s the rich who pay the taxes, who keep cities afloat, and it’s not just them who left, corporations bolted like James Corden, fleeing a restaurant when the bill comes. Hell, in hindsight, AOC did Jeff Bezos a favor by keeping him out of this hellscape. Barclays, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs have relocated jobs to Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, where people are polite and heavily armed. The way God intended. At least they didn’t shoot their guns in the air.

Anyway, tech companies did the same in liberal run California with jobs fleeing to Texas. To me, it’s a good sign. It’s capitalism having an allergic reaction to socialism. And while Hochul was begging people to come back, Governor Ron DeSantis was congratulating them on getting out.

GOV. RON DESANTIS, R-FLA.: The policies pursued by these states have sparked a mass exodus of productive Americans from these jurisdictions, with Florida serving as the most desired destination, a promised land of sanity. Many of these cities and states have embraced faddish ideology at the expense of enduring principle… We will not allow reality, facts and truth to become optional. We will never surrender to the woke mob. Florida is where woke goes to die.

DESANTIS CALLS FLORIDA ‘LAND OF SANITY,’ SLAMS BIDEN POLICIES WITH INAUGURAL ADDRESS

So where woke goes to die, that should be the new state motto because it’s true. It is where the woke go to die. Well, that and the elderly and I don’t, I don’t blame them, it’s great. I’m going to go there and die, soon. New Hampshire’s been saying live free or die for 75-years, and when’s the last time they killed anybody? Phonies. But DeSantis is right, both California and New York had six figure population loss since 2020, while Texas and Florida have seen growth in the six figure range. Bottom line, the blue states have their work cut out for them. Otherwise, in five years when someone farts in L.A., New York or S.F., it’s going to echo for miles. But hey, they may already be on the case. Check out this ad I saw late last night.

“GUTFELD!” SKIT: Hey, all you great people who left New York for Florida. We want you back. We’ve made tons of changes since you’ve been gone and you’re going to love what we’ve done with the place. Like in our libraries, where every night is now Dudes Who Dress Like Ladies Night. And we heard you hate unnecessary lockdowns, which is why we’re not locking down anyone, including the Central Park masturbator, the downtown defecator and The Riddler. Plus, why pay 250 bucks to see Mickey Mouse when you can see tons of real mice for free?

CHILD: Wow, that’s awesome.

“GUTFELD SKIT!”: That’s right, kid. And we’ve got tons of entertainment options for the whole family. Like Crazy Guy Yelling On Street Corner, and Sidewalk Slasher. And if you felt like there’s too many old people in Florida, don’t worry. In New York, our leaders took care of that years ago. And in Florida, it’s hot all the time. But New York has all four seasons. Hot, really hot, cold and —- this. So come back to New York, where we promise to kill you less.

[World] US warship sails through Taiwan Strait

The USS Chung-Hoon transited the Taiwan Strait on Thursday

A US warship sailed through the Taiwan Strait between Taiwan and the Chinese mainland on Thursday, prompting criticism from Beijing.

The US military said the USS Chung-Hoon’s transit showed the US commitment to a “free and open Indo-Pacific”.

But a Chinese embassy spokesman in Washington said the voyage was to “flex muscles” and accused the US of “undermining peace and stability”.

Tensions in the Taiwan Strait soared last year.

China carried out its biggest ever military exercises around the island following a visit there by former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in August.

China claims Taiwan as part of its territory and has vowed to unify it, by force if necessary. Self-ruled Taiwan sees itself as distinct from the mainland.

The Chinese military said it had monitored the USS Chung-Hoon’s transit. Its embassy spokesman added the country would “safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

The vessel is named after Rear Admiral Gordon Pai’ea Chung-Hoon, who served in the US navy during the Second World War.

Tensions between Washington and Beijing have risen in recent years and Taiwan is a flashpoint in the relationship, with the US walking a diplomatic tightrope on the issue.

The US abides by the “One China” policy – a cornerstone of the two countries’ diplomatic relationship which recognises only one Chinese government – and has formal ties with Beijing and not Taiwan.

But it also maintains a “robust unofficial” relationship with the island. That includes selling weapons for Taiwan to defend itself.

Last month, the US accused a Chinese air force jet of carrying out an unsafe manoeuvre after it flew within 20 feet of a US air force plane over the South China Sea.

China subsequently accused the US plane of carrying out an unsafe action.

China and Taiwan: The basics

Why do China and Taiwan have poor relations? China sees the self-ruled island as a part of its territory and insists it should be unified with the mainland, by force if necessaryHow is Taiwan governed? The island has its own constitution, democratically elected leaders, and about 300,000 active troops in its armed forcesWho recognises Taiwan? Only a few countries recognise Taiwan. Most recognise the Chinese government in Beijing instead. The US has no official ties with Taiwan, but does have a law which requires it to provide the island with the means to defend itself

Former NFL running back Peyton Hillis in critical condition after saving his kids from drowning: report

Latest & Breaking News on Fox News

Former NFL running back Peyton Hillis is reportedly in critical condition after rescuing his children from drowning.

Sidelines Arkansas reported that Hillis, a four-year player at the University of Arkansas, saved his children from the ocean.

Peyton’s uncle, Greg, said the seven-year NFL veteran is “doing better” but still has a battle to endure.

“I just wanted to let everyone know on Razorback Nation that Peyton is doing better,” he said in a Facebook post. “He’s still in intensive care and having some problems with his kidneys and his lungs but doctors say he is improving. I just wanted to head off any rumors that may be started. I’m sure he would want everyone to know that he appreciates all of the prayers being thrown up on his behalf!!!”

Hillis, 36, was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft where he spent his first two seasons. However, he broke out as a member of the Cleveland Browns, rushing for 1,177 yards on 270 carries and scoring 11 touchdowns in 2010.

Though he didn’t make the Pro Bowl that season, he was awarded by being the cover athlete of Madden NFL 12.

BILLS-BENGALS GAME WHERE DAMAR HAMLIN WENT INTO CARDIAC ARREST WILL NOT BE RESUMED, NFL ANNOUNCES

He spent the 2012 season with the Kansas City Chiefs before spending his final two seasons with the New York Giants.

While at Arkansas, Hillis played a key role as a pass-catching back. In fact, he had more receiving yards (1,197) than rushing (960) in his four years there – a dozen of his 23 touchdowns came from the ground.

Hillis retired from the NFL in 2015.

Watch: Utah mayor gets emotional talking about town’s murders

A 42-year-old man shot seven members of his family before killing himself in the US state of Utah after his wife filed for divorce, police said.

The family of eight were found dead inside a rural home in Enoch City on Wednesday night during a welfare check at the property.

Police say the victims included the man’s wife, his five children and his mother-in-law.

City manager Rob Dotson said the town of about 8,000 people was in shock.

At a news conference on Thursday, city officials said 42-year-old insurance salesman Michael Haight had opened fire on his wife, 40-year-old Tausha, his 78-year-old mother-in-law Gail Earl, and his five children before he killed himself.

The five children, who were not named, include three girls, 17, 12 and 7, and two boys, 7 and 4.

Enoch City manager Rob Dotson said their bodies had been discovered by police at around 16:00 (23:00 GMT) on Wednesday, after someone reported that the wife had missed a scheduled appointment, prompting a welfare check on the family’s home.

Mr Dotson said each of the victims appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound.

Officials also confirmed that the wife had filed for divorce on 21 December.

“Tausha was the most kind and generous person and she never ever said anything ill about anyone,” Tina Brown, a friend of the family, told KSTU-TV. “She would give the shirt off of her back for anyone and she served people tirelessly.”

City officials, including mayor Jeffrey Chestnut, appeared emotional as they provided their latest update to media.

“It’s not too often something like this hits very close to home,” Mr Chestnut said, adding that the Haight family had been his neighbours.

“The youngest children played in my yard with my sons,” he said.

Enoch City is a small agricultural town in the south-western part of the state, about 245 miles (394 km) south of Salt Lake City.

The five children attended four schools across the Iron County School District, which released a statement expressing its sorrow.

The school district has since mobilised a crisis response team and made counsellors and therapists available.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox tweeted his condolences for those affected by the “senseless violence”.

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden also offered their condolences, calling the incident a “tragic shooting”.

“Less than one month after we marked 10 years since the Sandy Hook tragedy, another mass shooting has claimed the lives of five more children in Enoch City,” White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement.

Mayor Chestnut said his community had received offers of support from state and federal governments, including from the US National Security Council.

“We’re very grateful to the greater world at large who are mindful of us at this time,” Mr Chestnut said.

Jen Shah of ‘Real Housewives’ gets 6 1/2-year prison term

Top News: US & International Top News Stories Today | AP News

Jennifer Shah leaves federal court in New York, Friday, Jan. 6, 2023. A judge has sentenced the member of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” to 6 1/2 years in prison for helping to defraud thousands of people nationwide in a telemarketing scam. Shah, who sobbed Friday as she apologized for her crimes prior to the announcement of the sentence in a New York courtroom, admitted her guilt last July. (AP Photo/Seth Wenig)

NEW YORK (AP) — Jennifer Shah, a tearful member of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” who insisted she is not the character she plays on the show, was sentenced Friday to 6 1/2 years in prison for defrauding thousands of people, many of them vulnerable or older, in a telemarketing scam that stretched nearly a decade.

Shah, 49, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Sidney H. Stein as a leader of a nationwide fraud that targeted people who were often unsophisticated electronically and could least afford to lose their money.

Shah pleaded guilty in July to a conspiracy charge. Prosecutors sought a 10-year prison term, which would have been a year under the federal sentencing guidelines’ minimum recommendation but well above the three years in prison that Shah’s lawyer suggested.

At the outset of Friday’s hearing, Stein cautioned a courtroom packed with Shah’s family and friends and members of the media that he was not sentencing the person people see on television.

Stein said that person was “simply a character. It’s acting.” And he added that the housewives program “involves role playing. … It’s a heavily scripted operation.”

His words were echoed by Shah, who told the judge: “Reality TV has nothing to do with reality.”

Hub peek embed (ParkCity) – Compressed layout (automatic embed)

She apologized to the “innocent people” she said she’d hurt and pledged to pay $6.5 million in restitution and forfeiture when she gets out of prison.

“I struggled to accept responsibility for the longest time because I deluded myself into believing … that I did nothing wrong,” Shah said, calling it her “own fractured reality.”

“For years I blamed other people for putting me in this position,” believing she was duped and manipulated, she said.

“I alone am responsible for my terrible decisions. It was all my fault and all my wrongdoing,” Shah said. “I have no one to blame but myself. … I wish I could have stood outside myself and seen the harm I was causing and changed course. I am profoundly and deeply sorry.”

During the hearing, defense lawyer Priya Chaudhry said her client has undergone a dramatic transformation in recent months.

“Remorse can be genuine even if it shows up late. … Her apology is real,” she said.

After the sentencing, Shah left the courthouse without speaking to reporters. She will report to prison at a later date.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Sobelman said Shah was a leader of a “clear and brazen fraud” that stretched from 2012 to March 2021 as bogus services were promoted as enabling people to make substantial amounts of money through online businesses. He called her the most culpable among more than 30 defendants.

“She always knew what she was doing wrong,” he said, noting her efforts to slow the investigation into her misdeeds by lying to investigators and taking evasive actions to obscure her true role in the fraud.

In a presentence submission, prosecutors said she used profits from the fraud to live a life of luxury that included a nearly 10,000-square-foot mansion with eight fireplaces dubbed “Shah Ski Chalet” in the resort haven of Park City, Utah. The home, they said, is now listed for sale for $7.4 million.

They said she also rented an apartment in midtown Manhattan, leased a Porsche Panamera, bought hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of luxury goods and funded various cosmetic procedures while cheating the Internal Revenue Service of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The government said she also seemed to mock the charges against her by claiming that the “only thing I’m guilty of is being Shah-mazing” and then she profited from it by marketing “Justice for Jen” merchandise after her arrest as she directed others to lie while trying to conceal her conduct from investigators.

At sentencing, Shah said proceeds from merchandise sales, which have been shut down, will go to victims.

The judge, though, said victims may be made whole financially, but they “can’t really be made whole emotionally.”

“Their lives have been turned upside down,” Stein said.

NCAA slams Jim Harbaugh, Michigan football with multiple violations after investigation: report

Latest & Breaking News on Fox News

The NCAA has reportedly given the Michigan Wolverines football program its Notice of Allegations, claiming head coach Jim Harbaugh provided “false or misleading information” to investigators regarding impermissible contact with recruits during NCAA-mandated dead periods.

According to The Athletic, Michigan has received four Level II violations and one Level I violation, which is Harbaugh’s misleading information.

The violations against Michigan also include the use of a defensive analyst for on-field coaching activities, which is against rules, per ESPN.

Harbaugh, who said he “expects” to return as Michigan’s head coach next season despite rumors he could return to the NFL, could get a multi-game suspension among potential penalties, ESPN added.

It is Harbaugh’s duty to make sure he is monitoring staff properly, while complying with the NCAA and its rules.

Harbaugh released a statement on Thursday regarding his potential return to the NFL, and while it wasn’t a definitive yes, it appears he intends to coach the Wolverines.

JIM HARBAUGH ‘THINKS’ HE’LL STAY WITH MICHIGAN AMID NFL RUMORS

“As I stated in December, while no one knows what the future holds, I expect that I will be enthusiastically coaching Michigan in 2023,” Harbaugh said in a statement posted to Michigan Football’s Twitter page. “I have spoken with President Santa Ono and Athletic Director Warde Manuel and appreciate their support of me and our program. Our mission as Wolverines continues, and we are preparing for the 2023 season with great passion and enthusiasm. As our legendary coach Bo Schembechler said…’Those who stay will be champions.’”

The Carolina Panthers were a team rumored to be after Harbaugh, as they have already begun searching for their next head coach. An ESPN report said owner David Tepper had a conversation with Harbaugh about the position on Tuesday, though it wasn’t considered an interview.

MICHIGAN’S ROMAN WILSON UPSET OVER ‘BULLS—’ OVERTURNED TOUCHDOWN CALL VS TCU

Harbaugh interviewed with the Minnesota Vikings last offseason before they eventually went with Kevin O’Connell, who won the NFC North in his first year. At the time, the Detroit Free Press reported Harbaugh telling Manuel this would “not be a reoccurring theme every year” regarding his potential NFL return.

Now, Harbaugh seems to have more pressing things on his plate in Ann Arbor.

The Wolverines just fell to the TCU Horned Frogs in the College Football Playoff semifinal this past weekend despite being an eight-point favorite.

Michigan never had the lead in the game, and TCU pulled off the largest upset in CFP history.

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem on Republican meltdown over House Speaker vote: ‘It’s hard to watch’

Latest & Breaking News on Fox News

Republican Gov. Kristi Noem of South Dakota served eight years in Congress before being elected governor in 2018, but she’s happy not to be there this week.

“I’m glad I’m not there” Noem told Fox News Digital when asked about the inability of her former GOP colleagues in the House of Representatives to elect a speaker.

House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy has failed to gain the support of a group of roughly 20 hard-right Republicans and has fallen short in 11 ballots for speaker over the course of three days. Republicans won back control of the House in the midterm elections but hold a razor-thin majority and McCarthy can only afford to lose the support of four Republicans to win election as speaker.

“It’s hard to watch, to see what’s going on,” Noem, who was overwhelming re-elected in November, said Thursday in an interview with Fox News Digital.

“I do hope Republicans can be unified around our shared values and elect Kevin to be the speaker and get past this,” Noem emphasized.

HERE ARE THE HOUSE REPUBLICANS OPPOSING MCCARTHY’S SPEAKER BID

Noem had some criticism for Republicans opposing McCarthy, saying “honestly it would make me feel a lot better if these 20 members of Congress were negotiating for something that actually made the country better, that solved some of the big problems that we’ve got going on.”

“To see them arguing and negotiating on behalf of themselves or committee chairmanship or position of power is extremely discouraging,” the conservative governor added. “If they were arguing for reform that actually put our nation in a more secure spot, it would be much more understandable for me. So this kind of position and posturing for their own personal power is extremely discouraging for me.”

Asked if the intra-party war in the House could be detrimental to Republicans when the party tries to win back the White House and the Senate in the 2024 elections, Noem said “it sure doesn’t help.”

“It’s difficult work governing and Republicans have to prove right now that they can govern,” she said. “Electing someone to be speaker of the House is the first step and I’m hopeful they’ll make progress on that.”
