BMW 5-Series Touring Teased, Arrives In Spring 2024 – But The U.S. Misses Out

Carscoops

BMW shared the first official teaser of the upcoming 5-Series Touring, shortly after a set of leaked patent drawings effectively revealed the exterior design of the model. The more practical version of the 5-Series and i5 will premiere in spring 2024, and will be exclusively available to customers in Europe, Japan, and Taiwan – which means that U.S. buyers will miss out on the premium midsize wagon.

The single shadowy image of the profile shows the silhouette and LED lighting signature of the midsize estate that has been spotted on numerous occasions by our spy photographers. Predictably, the front section of the bodywork is shared with the sedan, but the rear end has been redesigned, adding the practicality of an upright tail and proposing a low-slung alternative to SUVs.

BMW confirmed that the powertrain lineup of the 5-Series Touring will be shared with the sedan. This means that the CLAR-based model will offer a wide range of petrol, mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric (i5 Touring) options.

On the top end of the food chain in terms of performance and visual attitude will be the M5 Touring which is rumored to produce 790 hp (588 kW / 800 PS) from an XM-sourced plug-in hybrid V8. It will also look the part thanks to a version-specific wide bodykit differentiating it from lesser versions. Those in search of a powerful family hauler will also have the option of the fully electric i5 M60 xDrive, coming with a more modest but still impressive 593 hp (442 kW / 601 PS).

The market launch of the eighth-generation 5-Series Touring has been confirmed for spring 2024, but you can check out every detail of the base-spec model in the patent drawings below. Unfortunately, if you live outside Europe, Japan, or Taiwan, you won’t have access to the estate, since BMW decided to limit its availability to those markets.

Note that the new BMW 5-Series Sedan has already been launched in South Korea, and will soon arrive in other markets including Germany where the first deliveries are expected on October 21. The executive midsize sedan will make its US road debut on October 28, with other global markets following on November 25.
