Colts' Rodney Thomas II drove over 100 miles to be with friend Damar Hamlin, talked to him in ICU

Indianapolis Colts defensive back Rodney Thomas II played with Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin at Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School, and when he heard about his former teammate’s medical emergency Monday night, he jumped into action.

Thomas talked to reporters on Wednesday and detailed his own reaction to the entire ordeal. He said he did not realize what happened to Hamlin until his dad called him on FaceTime. He said he caught emergency personnel loading Hamlin into the back of an ambulance while Bills and Bengals players wept on the field. He got into his car and made the 111-mile trek to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

“I had a goal,” Thomas said, via the team’s website. “I knew where I was going, so I just got on the road and I just went. Laser-focused.”

Thomas and Hamlin are really close friends and talked right before the Bills played the Bengals. When he got to the ICU, Thomas said he held Hamlin’s hand and just talked to his friend again while he was sedated.

“I know he could hear me,” he said. “Even if he couldn’t hear me, it didn’t matter. I said what I had to say.”

Thomas said the quick interaction set him straight and allowed him to breathe easier. He said it made the trip back home a lot better. He lauded Hamlin’s character and work ethic and believed Hamlin would eventually walk out of the hospital.

“No doubt in my mind,” Thomas said. “He’s a fighter. No other thought in my mind of him walking out under his own power.”

Sony and Honda launch Afeela electric car brand. Here's what the name means

Sony and Honda hope you’re feeling their new car company’s name.

The tech and auto giants created Sony Honda Mobility last year to develop an electric vehicle brand and announced at CES on Wednesday that it will be called Afeela.

“Afeela expresses an interactive relationship where people “feel” mobility as an intelligent entity, and mobility “feels” people and society using sensing and network IT technologies,” the company said.

The name was rolled out on a prototype of the brand’s first vehicle, which will be built in the United States starting in 2026.

Vikings' Harrison Phillips buys food for Damar Hamlin's family, those taking care of him

The medical emergency Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has led to many acts of kindness around the sports world – from donations pouring into the player’s charity to others taking care of first responders.

Minnesota Vikings defensive lineman Harrison Phillips was with the Bills in 2021 and was teammates with Hamlin during his rookie season. On Tuesday, as Hamlin’s family and others waited for any update on his condition, Phillips bought dinner for his family, the Bills’ training staff and the doctors and nurses who are at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center’s ICU doing anything they can to help Hamlin.

Phillips told reporters he was at a Minnesota Timberwolves game with teammate Sheldon Day and their partners when he heard Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest and collapsed to the ground at Paycor Stadium.

“We left the game early, and I was just refreshing Twitter every second, reading every tweet out there, just waiting to hear what’s going on and what could happen. I sent out a bunch of text messages to almost all my [former] teammates,” Phillips said, via the team’s website.

“For all the teammates that were rallied around them there, it was a very hard scene to see. You can try to picture it as best you can, but it was a very hard scene. So I’ve obviously been praying. I got on my knees, praying and trying to figure out, ‘What can you do?’ There’s nothing really to do than try to reach out to everyone you can and make sure that they know that they’re loved and bring as much support as you can.”

Phillips said he eventually was able to connect with someone at the hospital and was able to get some kind of food purchased for everyone involved.

“I found a sandwich shop and ordered food — chips, drinks and sandwiches, everything I could find, salads, whatever — for all the doctors, nurses on the ICU ER floor, the members of Damar’s family that were there, the training staff of the Bills. They were able to deliver that for dinner last night. I have a buffet of Chipotle stuff [Wednesday night] coming for dinner for all of the doctors and nurses – I think there’s 50 or so. I just wanted to try to do something,” he added.

“My foundation, Harrison’s Playmakers, the children that I work with have bigger hearts than any of us. They wanted to find ways to help out, too. I donated to [Hamlin’s] fund, but some parents and some kids were asking me, ‘What else can we do as Playmakers?’ So I opened a little branch of my foundation that they can support … to do an event in Damar’s honor that will hopefully be a celebration of his life and his recovery in the months to come. But they were just asking for an outlet of what else they could do, so I wanted to provide one for them.”

Donations to Hamlin’s Chasing M’s Foundation has topped $7 million since the incident.

'Housewife' talks exploring sexuality after failed marriages to Joe Biden's nephew, baseball star

Meghan King is making some life changes after a tumultuous 2022.

After an annulment from President Biden’s nephew Cuffe Biden Owens last spring and a contentious and legal-embattled relationship with ex-husband and former baseball player Jim Edmonds whom she shares three children, the former “Real Housewives of Orange County” is refocusing.

“This year my personal life was ravaged with more of the same. The family court system is broken as hell and 2022 was another glaring reminder. But in 2023 things will change,” she wrote to her blog.

“I’m living authentically this year. I will be inspired to persevere by those brightly lit individuals around me,” she explained.

In a new post to her blog, Meghan King talked about the changes she wants to implement into her life.

King also opened up about eliminating certain medications from her life, sharing “I have eliminated all antidepressants and hormonal supplements. I am present. I am enforcing boundaries and angering people because I’m standing up for myself in new ways that weren’t expected before. I am present.”

In a revealing twist, the blogger and influencer revealed she was willing to explore another path if she so wishes – her sexuality.

“I will explore my sexuality if I want to, and I will honor plutonic and non-traditional relationships in ways Western society has done the disservice of making us believe are unimportant.”

Hannity and Boebert spar over House speaker chaos: Shouldn't 'you pack it in?'

Fox News host Sean Hannity sparred Wednesday with House Freedom Caucus member Lauren Boebert, one of the approximately 20 members of Congress who do not support Rep-elect. Kevin McCarthy’s, R-Calif., bid to become the next Speaker of the House.

Boebert, R-Colo, expressed distrust that McCarthy would follow through on some of the pledges he has made in recent times, while Hannity repeatedly pressed the congresswoman to explicitly name a lawmaker she would support instead of the Californian.

Hannity keyed into Boebert’s earlier comments invoking former President Donald Trump, who signaled fervent support for McCarthy.

“Even having my favorite president call us and tell us we need to knock this off, I think it actually needs to be reversed,” Boebert said as she nominated Rep.-elect Byron Donalds, R-Fla., ahead of the fifth round of voting. “The president needs to tell Kevin McCarthy that sir, you do not have the votes, and it’s time to withdraw.”

In response, Hannity asked Boebert why she and her 19 other no-McCarthy colleagues should withdraw their objection instead, given the erstwhile Minority Leader enjoys the support of ten times as many members in the latest tally.

“Let me turn the tables, Congresswoman. Kevin McCarthy has 202-203 votes. Your side has 20. So if I’m going to use your words and your methodology and your math, isn’t it time for you to pack it in and your side to pack it in – considering he has over 200 and you have 20?” the host asked.

Boebert replied she understands the frustration at the standoff, to which Hannity said he isn’t frustrated but wanted a direct answer.

The lawmaker claimed McCarthy didn’t want to listen to concerns from her and other lawmakers until the 2022 elections awarded Republicans a much narrower majority than he originally envisioned.

“We all want a unified party. But this isn’t chaos. It’s a functioning constitutional republic when everything is said and done House Republicans will be stronger and more prepared to lead than ever before,” she said.

Hannity pressed again, questioning how the 20-strong conservative group will unify around a non-McCarthy candidate if they have not been consistent with who they have nominated. He pointed out how on Tuesday, the group nominated Rep.-elect Jim Jordan, unsolicited, then moved on to Donalds on Wednesday.

“Tomorrow, I don’t know who you’re going to vote for, but the bottom line is you still only have 20 votes… You’re proving that 20 people don’t want Kevin McCarthy at this time.”

When asked if Boebert supports McCarthy’s Commitment to America campaign, which included tenets of border security, energy independence, and debt reduction – in addition to separate support for investigating alleged Biden family influence peddling and the behavior of former NIAID Director Anthony Fauci, the lawmaker said she does.

“Of course I do. But I do not trust Kevin McCarthy at this point to deliver on those promises,” she said.

“Especially when I go into good faith negotiations with him. And then he comes out and lies about what those conversations were saying that members.”

Hannity underlined that such a statement was a characterization, and that McCarthy was not present to defend against the assertion.

The host again asked who Boebert’s group plans to nominate Thursday when the House reconvenes, to which the lawmaker proffered she may want to nominate Trump – as the Speaker does not have to be a sitting lawmaker.

Hannity replied the atmosphere around the changing non-McCarthy nominations has the air of a game show.

“[McCarthy has] 203 people and you have 20. I respect the 20 of you. But I’m asking you based on your own words… Who do you want? Who will you only support to be speaker? It’s not that hard.”

“I’m willing to have conversations with the Republican Conference to come up with a consensus candidate,” Boebert replied.

Earlier Wednesday, Donalds was nominated in successive votes, at one point by House Freedom Caucus Chairman Scott Perry, who gave an impassioned speech in support of a non-McCarthy alternative.

Democrats unanimously nominated Rep.-elect Hakeem Jeffries of New York, who is likely to serve as House Minority Leader.

Two Democrats – Reps.-elect Marcy Kaptur of Ohio and Ro Khanna of California – had separately stated they could in one scenario support certain Republicans to break the logjam.

Former lawmaker Justin Amash mocked for suggesting he should be speaker: 'We've seen it all folks'

Former congressman Justin Amash faced mockery on Twitter Wednesday for suggesting that he should be voted House speaker as a compromise amid Rep-elect Kevin McCarthy’s, R-Calif., struggles to secure the leadership position.

“Former Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) is standing just outside the Speaker’s Lobby telling reporters that he’s willing and interested in serving as a compromise Speaker,” Alex Bolton, a staff writer for The Hill, reported.

Amash, who was first elected in 2010, was at the Capitol as the House still debated and voted on who should be speaker. Republicans control a slim five-seat majority in the lower chamber, which has left McCarthy struggling to get the 218 votes needed to become speaker. After six failed votes, McCarthy and his allies are negotiating with the 20 Republican holdouts.

However, there is discussion about the possibility of moderate Republicans joining Democrats to nominate and vote for a moderate Republican as speaker. Amash, the former Republican turned Independent turned Libertarian, threw his name out as a possibility.

Sarah Ferris, a congressional reporter for Politico, tweeted “Ok now we’ve seen it all folks Former Justin Amash is here outside House chamber pitching a different kind of speaker candidate: himself ‘I’m here in case they want that as a possibility.'”

“To that end, I am on standby if Bill Gates needs someone to inherit his wealth,” conservative author Eddie Scarry replied.

However, Amash did receive some praise from fellow Libertarians,

Bekah Congdon, managing editor of Cato Institute, tweeted “With our country facing so many challenges, we need a #Speakerofthehouse who can heal divisions. @JustinAmash is the perfect candidate for this role. He is a thoughtful, even-handed leader who is respected across party lines for his integrity and dedication to principle.”

Ronna McDaniel's challenger for RNC chair says after unsuccessful leaders 'typically move on'

Ronna McDaniel has served three terms as chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, but a rising conservative figure believes it’s time for new leadership.

Harmeet Dhillon, a civil rights attorney and national committeewoman for the RNC, is challenging McDaniel after a string of GOP losses in the 2020 presidential election and 2022 midterm elections.

“I think we really need to focus on our party where we’re all working in the party together. This is not personal. I have no personal issue with Ronna,” Dhillon tells Fox Digital.

McDaniel would become the one of the longest serving RNC chairs in over 100 years if she were elected to a fourth term. Since her announcement, roughly 73% of GOP voters want the RNC to move on from McDaniel, according to a December poll by the Convention of States Action.

RNC CHAIR RONNA MCDANIEL SAYS HER SUPPORT IS ‘PRETTY SOLID’ AS SHE FACES CHALLENGERS IN RE-ELECTION BID

“You’re the head of an organization and the job of the organization is to elect Republicans and you don’t elect Republicans… normally people do step down and move on.”

— Harmeet Dhillon

After losing the White House and missing what some Republicans predicted would be a “red wave” in the midterms, a chorus of conservative voters are asking what went wrong within the RNC.

“We don’t have the White House now, we don’t have the presidency. So, you know, we are effectively the leaders of the party,” said Dhillon. “If we’re not clearly articulating what our message is, why voters should vote for us, then we are losing. And in fact, we are always playing catch up with the Democrats.”

RNC NAMES MILWAUKEE AS 2024 GOP CONVENTION HOST CITY

The RNC raised over $327 million and spent about $391 million in the 2021-2022 election cycle.

Despite calls for changes in leadership at the RNC, McDaniel says she has instituted several changes that has enhanced the party’s outreach.

“I think I have provided a lot of change under my leadership,” McDaniel told Fox Business’ Stuart Varney in December. “I’m always open to new ideas and ways to move forward.”

Republicans spent nearly twice as much money as Democrats on fundraising efforts during the 2022 midterm elections, according to Open Secrets. But Democrats outspent the GOP by more than $100 million in media while Republicans spent $93.4 million on campaign strategy and communications consulting.

“We pay hundreds of thousands of dollars this year to messaging consultants who are not providing good messaging,” said Dhillon. “We have our small dollar donor program, which I think is sometimes…quite abusive to our donors. They’re kind of harassing messages. I think we need to really change our tone and welcome people back into the party.”

Critics of McDaniel argue November’s midterm losses and the current fight over who will lead the RNC reveal deeper issues about the ambitions of the party’s leadership.

“I trust most of the members of the RNC to vote not in their self-interest, but rather in the interest of the party,” said Dhillon. “Ronna has a large staff at the RNC that she’s using in this campaign. I think that’s somewhat questionable, but she is doing that.”

The candidacy of Dhillon and McDaniel is problematic for former President Trump. Dhillon played a key role in the former president’s legal feuds with the January 6th committee. But Trump hand-picked McDaniel to be his RNC chair in 2017. Trump says that he likes both candidates and is declining to endorse either.

“I don’t think anybody can doubt my integrity,” said Dhillon, about whether her relationship with the former president would impact her decisions as RNC chair — which has bylaws that require an even playing field in the 2024 presidential primary.

“The idea that I’m ‘in somebody’s pocket’ because I represent them on a separation of powers matter involved in…I think that’s also kind of a crude type of analysis.”

— Harmeet Dhillon

Dhillon denies that she is leaning on her relationship with Trump trying to win the chair. She says she plans to better deliver the party’s message on social issues like abortion and not rely heavily on consultants while boosting small dollar donations.

CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

While McDaniel has sought to claim success in broadening the party’s appeal to minority voters, Dhillon says the RNC chairwoman must bare responsibility for Republicans’ failure to win the Senate and have an even larger House Majority.

“Life is unfair in many ways. However, when you have successive losses, be it and a sports team or being in a corporation or being as a leader of the party too, people typically move on.”

Bryan Kohberger, the 28-year-old criminal justice student accused of killing four undergrads at a neighboring school, arrived at the Latah County Jail Wednesday evening, hours after authorities flew him out of Pennsylvania.

A law enforcement source tells Fox News Kohberger is being held in a separate holding cell and his demeanor “remains quiet.”

Police there and the FBI took him into custody on Dec. 30 after raiding his parents’ house in Albrightsville.

Kohberger faces four counts a first-degree murder and a felony burglary charge for allegedly entering a six-bedroom house and stabbing four University of Idaho students.

Cardinals not expecting Kyler Murray to be ready for start of next season

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray underwent ACL repair surgery Wednesday, and it’s unlikely he’ll be back under center for the start of the 2023-24 season.

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury spoke with reporters and said quarterback Colt McCoy will be shut down the rest of the year due to a concussion. He compared Murray’s situation with McCoy’s.

“It was tough,” Kingsbury said via ESPN about ending McCoy’s season early. “He wanted to play, and it’s just in our situation with … probably not having Kyler start the year, it’s the right thing to do.”

It’s been a roller coaster season for a Cardinals team that had a roster capable of reaching the playoffs after qualifying last season. But the offense, in particular, couldn’t find consistency. And a lot questions were thrown at Murray and Kingsbury as the offense struggled.

Last season, Murray threw for 3,787 yards with 24 touchdowns to 10 interceptions and rushed for 423 yards and five touchdowns on his way to a 9-5 record as a starter. This season, Murray threw for 2,368 yards in 11 games with 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He rushed for 418 yards and three touchdowns.

If the Cardinals lose to San Francisco this weekend, it would be their seventh straight defeat.

But Murray isn’t going anywhere anytime soon for Arizona.

He signed a five-year, $230.5 million extension prior to the start of this season. The contract is one of the main reasons Murray’s play has been hyper-analyzed this season amid the team’s struggles.

The Cardinals have many questions to answer this offseason, but one thing they will be paying attention to closely is Murray’s recovery given their hefty investment in the Oklahoma product

Jim Harbaugh 'thinks' he'll stay with Michigan amid NFL rumors

Despite a reported meeting with Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper about their head coaching position, Jim Harbaugh says it’s likely he will stay at the University of Michigan in 2023.

Harbaugh’s meeting with Tepper was not described as a formal interview, but the former San Francisco 49ers head coach has reportedly drawn interest from other NFL teams.

However, he thinks he will be in Ann Arbor for a ninth season.

“Although no one knows the future, I think I will be coaching Michigan next year,” Harbaugh told the Queen City News.

Harbaugh was in conversations with the Minnesota Vikings last year but described it as a “one-time thing” and said that would be the last time he sought NFL coaching opportunities.

Carolina defensive tackle Derrick Brown said last week that “everybody” wants interim head coach Steve Wilks to get the job permanently.

“I’ll speak for everybody in that locker room in saying we want Coach Wilks to be our next head coach. That’s for sure,” Brown said. “I think every single week we’re gonna come in, he’s gonna tell you exactly how it is. He doesn’t sugarcoat nothing.

“He keeps it plain Jane, per se. He lets you know exactly what’s going on. You could be one of the best players, but you walk into that building on Monday, he’s gonna tell you exactly how he felt about how you played. That level of clarity, that’s exactly what we want.”

TCU PULLS OFF LARGEST UPSET IN CFP HISTORY WITH WIN OVER MICHIGAN IN FIESTA BOWL

The Panthers are 5-6 with Wilks after starting the season 1-4 with former head coach Matt Rhule.

Michigan lost the Peach Bowl to TCU in the College Football Playoff semifinals, and TCU will meet Georgia in the national championship game Monday. It was the second straight CFP appearance for Michigan.

Harbaugh is 51-17 since joining Michigan in 2015. Including his stops at Stanford and the University of San Diego, his college head coaching record is 74-25. During his four seasons with the 49ers, he went 44-19-1, making three straight NFC championships and the 2013 Super Bowl, which he lost to his brother, John, and the Baltimore Ravens.
