What Was Your Favorite New Car In 2022?

Carscoops

As 2022 comes to a close, we’re taking a look back and asking our readers what cars they fell in love with this year.

We’ll lay down some ground rules and limit answers to vehicles either introduced or launched in 2022, but there’s no shortage of options as automakers had a very busy year.

GM was one of the most active as they introduced a slew of new vehicles including the Chevrolet Blazer EV, Equinox EV, and Silverado EV as well as the redesigned Colorado and Trax. Not to be outdone, GMC introduced the new Canyon, Sierra HD, and Sierra EV.  Cadillac didn’t rest on their laurels either as they launched the Lyriq and Escalade-V, while also unveiling the all-new Celestiq.

That’s a ton of new and upcoming models, and we didn’t even mention the Corvette Z06.  While the Lyriq is great, I’m excited about the Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 as it looks fantastic inside and out.  While not as flashy or as powerful as the GMC Hummer EV, the electric pickup is undeniably luxurious and will have approximately 400 miles (644 km) of range.

If that wasn’t impressive enough, the dual-motor all-wheel drive system is slated to produce 754 hp (562 kW / 764 PS) and 785 lb-ft (1,063 Nm) of torque in Max Power mode. This should enable the truck to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in less than 4.5 seconds.

Changing course, Porsche and Lamborghini introduced rally-inspired special editions that are sure to delight fans.  The 911 Dakar is limited to 2,500 units and offers a Rallye Design Package, which pays tribute to the car that won the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally.

If the old school styling didn’t win you over, perhaps the increased capability will as the model sports all-wheel drive, specially developed Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires, and an extra 3.1 inches (80 mm) of ground clearance.  Buyers will also find Rallye and Off-Road driving modes as well as a twin-turbo 3.0-liter engine developing 473 hp (353 kW / 480 PS) and 420 lb-ft (569 Nm) of torque.  That’s enough to allow for a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 3.2 seconds and a limited top speed of 150 mph (241 km/h).

If the 911 Dakar is too tame for your liking, there’s always the Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato which will be rarer with production limited to 1,499 units.  It features an aggressive exterior, an extra 1.7 inches (44 mm) of ground clearance, and a 5.2-liter V10 pumping out 602 hp (449 kW / 610 PS) and 413 lb-ft (560 Nm) of torque.  Despite being significantly more powerful than the Porsche, the two are similarly matched as the dash to 62 mph (100 km/h) takes 3.4 seconds while the Lambo’s top speed is slightly higher at 162 mph (260 km/h).

As for cars out now, you can’t go wrong with the BMW 760i xDrive.  While some people still take issue with the car’s styling, it’s a blast to drive. Furthermore, it’s a comfortable and high-tech luxury cruiser with a massive 31.3-inch theater screen in back.

While those are just some examples, let us know your favorite cars of 2022 in the comments below.

4 million border encounters since Kamala Harris assigned to address 'root cause' of problem

More than four million migrants have flocked to the southern border since Vice President Kamala Harris was assigned the task of addressing the “root cause” of the crisis nearly two years ago.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection tracked 233,000 border encounters in November, a 35% increase from when Harris was assigned her role on mass migration there in March 2021.

These encounters are expected to increase after the expiration of Title 42, a pandemic-era policy under President Trump that allows border agents to turn away migrants at the border.

The White House in December was unable to define what exactly Harris does in her role to address this mass migration.

“I don’t have anything to lay out specifically on what that work looks like,” press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said at a press briefing when asked about Harris’ role.

SUPREME COURT TEMPORARILY HALTS TERMINATION OF TITLE 42, WILL HEAR CASE IN FEBRUARY

The vice president’s office did not respond to a request for comment.

Encounters at the southern border hit an all-time high of 2.38 million in fiscal year 2022.

The Supreme Court, in a 5-4 decision Tuesday, temporarily halted the termination of Title 42, which was initially ordered by a U.S. district judge to expire Dec. 21. The White House said it would comply with the ruling and prepare for the policy’s eventual expiration.

STATE AGS WARN OF ‘ENORMOUS’ HARM IF TITLE 42 POLICY ENDS IN LAST-DITCH APPEAL TO SUPREME COURT

“At the same time, we are advancing our preparations to manage the border in a secure, orderly and humane way when Title 42 eventually lifts and will continue expanding legal pathways for immigration,” Jean-Pierre said in a statement.

Harris traveled to the border once in 2021 but did not do so this year. She insisted in recent months “the border is secure.” She spent three days in Latin America in two trips as vice president.

Harris’ last public appearance on the topic of immigration was June 15, according to a Los Angeles Times database of her scheduled events. The database shows 20 scheduled events on immigration for the vice president, only three since Aug. 5, 2021.

Harris released a plan on addressing the border crisis in July 2021, which detailed the need to boost democracy and economic security in Central America so there is less of an incentive to leave for the U.S. illegally.

President Biden has yet to visit the border as president and said “there are more important things going on.”

There were 78,000 encounters at the southern border in January 2021 when Biden took office. The encounters jumped to 173,000 in March 2021, when Harris was assigned to find the root cause of this mass migration. Encounters hit a high that year in July at 213,000 and peaked in May 2022 at 241,000.

Elon Musk Defends Greta Thunberg

TheStreet

The teenager is the figure of activism against climate change, but has also become a target for climate skeptics.

Greta Thunberg, 19, has become the unofficial spokesperson for young people worried about their future.

The environmental activist has become the symbol of a generation for whom climate change is urgent. She is the voice of a generation concerned with finding answers to the urgency of the climate crisis. Her weapon is her ability to mobilize young people.

She has been able to rally people around the world in her fight against global warming. Her fight for the defense of the planet arouses as much enthusiasm as controversy.

At 15, Thunberg won a climate essay competition organized by the daily Svenska Dagbladet. This was the genesis of her career as an activist. She started the “school strike for the climate” in 2018, demanding that her government take action on climate change.

The game changer happened when she posted a photo of herself on Instagram sitting in front of the Swedish Parliament. She was soon joined by others. This was the beginning of the school strike for the climate. The movement gained ground. Paris, Moscow, New Delhi, Hong Kong: Young people from all over the world started to demonstrate every Friday in favor of action against global warming.

Thunberg Under Attacks

Behind these “Fridays for Future”, were the desire to take measures for climate protection and to demand compliance with the Paris Climate Agreement.

She has become a star for millions of environmental activists and at the same time a target of millions of conservatives and all those who refuse the environmentalist diktat. To her detractors who see her as an “apocalyptic guru”, she replies that she sees the world realistically.

It is no surprise that the attacks against Thunberg have multiplied recently while Europe is going through an unprecedented energy crisis caused by the Russian war in Ukraine. Soaring gas prices at the pump have also given a voice to fossil fuel supporters and all ESG (environment, social and corporate governance) critics.

Progressive ideologies such as “wokeism” and its various counterparts, such as the use of pronouns, are contested.

The conservative satirical site The Babylon Bee thus cracked a tweet mocking Thunberg on Dec. 30 as a severe cold wave hits part of the United States and populations in many European countries are forced to ration energy.

“New Greta Thunberg Thermostat Scowls At You When You Turn The Heat Up,” the platform wrote, with a link to an article in which it goes after the activist.

“The Greta Thunberg Thermostat™ also emits an audible, ‘How dare you’ if it hears you emit dangerous methane into the atmosphere in the form of a fart,” the article said.

‘Astounding’

Musk, who recently reactivated The Babylon Bee’s Twitter account, then stepped in to defend Thunberg.

“The sheer amount of brand awareness achieved by Greta within a few years is astounding,” the billionaire commented. “I think she’s cool tbh.”

Musk’s defense also comes after a heated exchange between Thunberg and influencer Andrew Tate.

“Hello @GretaThunberg. I have 33 cars. My Bugatti has a w16 8.0L quad turbo. My TWO Ferrari 812 competizione have 6.5L v12s. This is just the start. Please provide your email address so I can send a complete list of my car collection and their respective enormous emissions,” the former kickboxer, who is known for his sexist posts, tweeted at Thunberg on Dec. 27.

“Yes, please do enlighten me. email me at [email protected],” Thunberg responded.

It’s surprising to see Musk defending Thunberg as the billionaire has become one of the strongest critics of ESG and progressive activism in recent months.

“ESG is the devil,” he tweeted last November.

“I am increasingly convinced that corporate ESG is the Devil Incarnate,” Musk also said last April.

Musk’s support of Thunberg hasn’t stopped many Twitter users from hurling harsh and scathing criticism at Thunberg.

“What’s her brand, exactly? Liars and complainers?” asked one Twitter user.

“Greta Thunberg is definitely very cool! Because she never turns on the heat 🤣” added another Twitter user.

“Greta’s ‘brand’ reach is not due to Greta. It’s due to the adult elitists who are using her to further their globalist agenda,” another user blasted.
